Man... I can remember when I bought this VIDEO TAPE at Guitarra de Prata in Rio de Janeiro, there were no DVD yet. It was very inspirating I use a lot of Dave in my drumming. I had got by surprise when I saw Dave in write hair!!
Yeah, man... as time goes by keeping giving us inspiration to keep on!!
@sheldonknowsall disagree, more technique maybe, look at the early footage with Corea, more expressive, the way he moves, the way he responds to what he is hears, wasn't as self-conscious back then, he was young, doing his thing, naturally, dont see that in his playing as much now. Remember seeing him live at one point, around 2001, he was stiff, ill at ease, and it came across in his playing, it seemed laboured, not letting go, maybe a bad night, just much prefer the younger Dave overall.
@digimaton I see what you are saying. You can see he is more relaxed, free-flowing in this video. But, I think his vocabulary has developed quite a bit since the early days. It's really hard to see since he was such a monster even early on, but I really feel like his playing has improved as time has passed. It's even more technical and precise, although the overall energy is very different - more controlled and deliberate today, it looks so freakishly natural that it comes off as stiff.
@sheldonknowsall "technical and precise" can be interesting, but it's often very boring, it always requires that a player "think" more about aspects of technicality and precision while playing, which to me is not musical expression, and that's what I saw in Weckl later on, obsessed with "doing it right," it's kinda anal. Looking at the early stuff with Corea, and listening to the stuff with Camilo, the record Suntan for example, i hear a more musical player, a less uptight drummer.
@digimaton trying for this kind of perfection will be very boring for you because you dont have the capabilities of this man. To him this is piece of piss. Also when you get more comfortable with your enstrument you'll be trying to make your notes/hits sound better. In time you dont even need to put much effort to do things "precise" or "technical" in your words, it'll come naturally.
@SlikkTim Who do you prefer when it comes to drum playing? My guy is Omar Hakim would love to see these two have a contest like Gene Krupa and Max Roach did in their prime
@Mrdrummer1995. I got all th music for his tracks. It switches 4/4 to 3/4 to 2/4 and such. Mainly 4/4 but it mixes and matches a bit and dav plays it behind the beat a bit and sort of ignores the time sigs in a way.

He's playing great here. But, you can see his drumming has improved a lot since this was recorded. He just looks SOOOOOO natural today. Amazing.
