Yeah as the double bass is playing the riff on the original this is an arrangement for the sonic range of the guitar. The first D played on the bass is ignored here, instead a grace note to the A is played to keep the groove. In fact it's very similar to George Benson's fantastic version. It's such an iconic riff that even playing it up in a higher register would work too. :)
you're videos are awesome... check out a band called MVP (Mark Varney Project) they do this awesome cover of this song! The band is Shawn Lane and Brett Garsed..
This is great Mark. Would it please be possible to show us a few of the lead lines in this or are you just soloing in the minor keys. Just a few key licks would be great.
Great. I see you've finally put the wooden bridge on the Af105 :-D, mine sounds so much better with it. I'd like to see more of them jazz riffs too, but I guess your personal preference is more metal-y :-)
thanks mate - you're a star!

The AF105NT has become my favorite go to guitar.
The guitar can be mellow and jazzy, great blues tones or flat out rock the house.

ok... I wasn't aware of the Benson version. I learned it from the '78 Real Book, which has Miles original version.

I'm not sure if you're aware that what you're playing As the melody is actually what one could call a harmony to the original riff.
Being there's no melody on the treble clef, only chord placements, the melody resides on the bass clef.
Transposed to the treble clef the notes played are: D,A,B,C,D,E,C,D.
Everything else you got spot on.
No dis-respect intended here. Over all, what your doing is a great and much needed service.
Regards,
R~

Hi Mark,
I love this too, and really appreciate your skills as an educator.
I'd like to second the request for Take 5. After learning this, I started working on that on my own. THEN I read these comments...
Cheers, and I'll see you at the Six String Bliss Forum!

You're absolutely right, I love (some) metal too. It's just that I don't like to play it :-D Anyway, keep up the good work, and thanks.
