One point from Journey to Xtlan that has stuck with me over the years, ever since reading the book when it was first published, is the concept of "making oneself too available, too accessible," like a fool walking down the center of the street. Also, the point that the first place to start in attaining personal power is "plugging all the leaks" in your behaviors/interactions/relationships/habits, etc. where energy is being lost or squandered. I read "K" back then too, Watts, Gurdieff, etc.
someone gave me that book almost 15 years ago, and it change my perception of life for ever, it opens my mind to something new, there is no limits in all castaneda's books, it reach out the infinity of universe... should read it again and again, and always learn something new...
You know what else is good, and yes I am a huge Castaneda fan, krishnamurti. He has books and he is on youtube. Don't let the name discourage you. If you like krishnamutri, who may like Anthony Demillo too. I could have mentioned Demillo first actually; he is great. He is on youtube. It is different than Native shamanism or whatever (heh heh) but they talk the truth, both of them do. Check it out.
@ziengitmd nice suggestion on krishnamurti. i haven't heard of demillo, but k is definitely worth looking into if you're not into conventional guru-ism. btw, journey to ixtlan was my first castaneda read (i have read all the books) and it was a page turner. jti was different from anything i read but had similarities to the eastern mysticism i was into and the own life i was crafting for myself.
i'm reading it now. it amazed me that some of my former views at life matches with some things written there. and this small part i've read so far has given me so much thoughts and changed some of my ways on seeing things.
might be the best out of the whole ten or so that he wrote ..fabulous putting together what he missed in the first two, letting go of the hard training in scientific methods, to usher new realms of possibility
that's how i started 20 some odd years ago. just when the tales of power books came out and i noticed in the forward carlos saying that the real teaching started after the drug taking. that's why i skipped the first two books (only to go back later and read them).
the last chapter contains some of the most intimate language of a mystic (don genero) and his love for this earth.
read courtney bryce The Power of One, but yes ixtlan is right up there with the best of allllll time .......takes u to another holistic dimension inside the shamanic viewpoints of the cosmos
@ziengiymd - thanks for the heads up on De Mello. This guy is hardcore.

Don't read Castaneda if your life is fine. These books are for those who have lost all desire to participate in human bullshit.

it is wonderful to read Journey to Ixtlan first and then the Castaneda books that followed...
have heard that Castaneda's first 2 books are cool but he started over with the full story and more of his memories, in Ixtlan................
