  • what's with Canada and Australia doing the same shiz?

  • Why did you paint it a dull gold colour? I dont understand. Shiny gold looks much nicer.

  • y did u paint in the end??

  • Bt pm

  • its gold ok, but its ugly. tooo fat

  • What a wast of gold...

  • If that's 2,000 lbs of gold I'm seeing, this coin is worth $54,742,400 metal value!!!!!!!!!!!! Gold price as of 15 days before Christmas 2011: $1710.70

  • I've seen the coin and was surprised at what appeared to be inadequate security. Sure it has video cameras but I thought it would have alarms on it and be surrounded by more than a glass box. Someone could break the glass and roll it out of there. It is pretty neat to see. I was impressed. I recommend touring the Perth Mint if you are ever in Perth.

  • 2:48 the queen has gills?!

  • Perth - City of Excitement

  • Did you just put a coating of gold spray paint on a SOLID GOLD COIN?

    WTF, Australia.

  • @Mindbleach It was sand blasted to give a matte type finish compared to the polished features. You can clearly see them vacuuming up the garnet when they lifted the tape.

  • i just want the bits they are scrapping off

  • I believe the real value of that coin is around $61million. Its common to put a lower value on gold coins than the actual value of the gold.

  • I think they just did this because they were jeolios of Canada

  • i swear he said it was 8x12cm's

  • So... how do I put it in my pocket??!!

  • That's some pocket change.

  • damn thats ugly

  • Perth Mint Makes World's Most Worthless Gold Coin

  • A big waste of gold.

  • @fknDemo The gold is still there. and it is still holds its value. You can choose to store gold bars in a basement vault, Or you could make one big coin out of it and put that in the vault instead. I see no waste at all on this. Waste would be to launch it in to space never to be seen again.

  • It's worth it's weight in gold for sure!

  • @giffeswe funny thing is that the value of the gold used is worth way more than the $1000000 written on the coin.

  • Meanwhile in africa...

  • @Mazzphysics HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • time to call the Fast Five crew!

  • give me 2 days and i´ll make this in blender for the half price!

  • what a waste

  • Just send me the gold, you can keep the coin.

  • 2:51

"When we first thought of the idea of making a 1-Ton coin..."

My submission for the greatest words ever spoken.

  • Kudos. It's a great looking coin! I look forward to being able to view it at a trade show! For those complaining about them using taxpayer's money, get your facts straight. The Perth Mint is fully self funded. It's the Royal Australian Mint that is funded by taxpayers.

  • We have the big pineapple, big banana and now the BIG coin!

    Aussie pride.

  • pretty cool

  • I Love to have one of that designed even just a little bit smaller as 1oz as colectors items.Where can I buy if this is available. Thanks for seeing it too. Hope to come back soon the place I visit there's is Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth,Melbourne,Geelong.Hobart,Tazmania.

  • what i find most ironic about the coin is ,,the kangaroo,,ppl are now eating our emblem and it should stop..next emu will be on the menu!!!

  • So they spend their money on useless stuff like that when it could of gone to much greater causes

  • @AnfoBro Is it so hard to read seriously ? This is gold from the banks and it's not lost i mean you can melt it again and make ingots.

  • WANT!

  • Can I have the chunks you chopped off?

  • Wow

  • Must be worth a ton of money

  • I wonder if they'll ever do a pure Uranium bullion coin? I think that would be a very interesting investment/collective piece!

  • prob get melted back down.. and sent to europe so we can buy all that lovely gold up.

  • Why does good ol' Bess have gills? O.o Have I simply never noticed this before?

  • Good luck trying to steal that

  • @23rdHokage the Mickelberg brothers are working on a plan :P

  • @23rdHokage Mission accepted

  • what's the name of the first song?

  • I need a biggar wallet.

  • Waist of r gold

  • Sure it's a lovely coin but honestly their are so many other things you could spend millions of dollars on, like people who don't have any money rather than 1 huge coin that's gonna make these rich people richer. But seriously no offense intended there are way worse thing you could have done and yes, it looks pretty.

  • So who's up for a trip.

  • as of today 1 ton of gold is = to 55,772,800 USD

  • what program was you using when drawing the kangaroo

  • Me and my friend once stole it and then put it back before anyone noticed. TRUE STORY.

  • nominal value only 1000000 Aud?

  • End the Federal Reserve!

    Vote for Ron Paul!

  • it better have a tracking device

  • AU$54 million is a drop in the ocean compared to size of Oz tourism industry of worth 2.6% of gdp or AU$34 billion.

Also, it potentially increases demand for Oz bullion which would generate more money for the mint/government and encourage investment in mining companies in the country.

  • Now for a 20 story parking meter...

  • You can bet that even now some Hollywood hack is pitching a story about the elaborate theft of this piece.

  • How much is the shipping?

  • Canada needs to create a 10 tons .99999 gold coin now...

  • Hey guys; is anyone with me to pull an "Ocean Eleven" on this sucker. Come on, we can pull it off.

  • What a waste of time and money...useless

  • What's the point?

  • It's all fun and games until Doctor Doom shows up to steal the thing.

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU CALL TAILS.

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU CALL HEADS.

  • yeah it would be better with dubstep

and also why mint the coin with a $1million dollar face value, and not a $55million dollar face value?

  • yeah it would be better with dubstep

  • If it's 99.99% pure gold. What's the 0.01% made of?

  • lol people in more advanced countries know 1000kg is really 1Mg

  • YAY!!! I was the first to DISLIKE this video. WHY? Just because it's not MINE!!!

  • wheres us 1 ton coin? oh yeah i forgot fort knox is empty

  • great idea, and a pleasant concept for an Australian mint. But the music for the video makes the subject sound as impressive as a casual walk into a tourist shop. Filmmakers, please choose better!

  • Great idea, and good video - horrible music. It makes an impressive subject feel as important as a tourist shop. Who chooses this crap?

  • agreed - a wasted of taxpayer dollars in this tough economy....... how about people before things!!!

  • how greedy

  • haha $1 million legal tender. I'd love to actually take it to a shop and demand goods in exchange for it, if they denied me the opportunity, then they're breaking the law ;)

  • INCREDIBLE!!!

  • Nice to see 54 million dollars of tax payer money being spent on this!! In these harsh economic times I am sure the people of Western Australia would have preferred some tax relief! IMO I think this is a gross waste of funds.

  • @ffh4500 The gold is leased from banks.

  • @perthmintbullion How much of our tax dollar is being spent to lease this gold from banks, who seem to continue to make record profits in these harsh economic times? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it, such a casting is a pretty awesome achievement, but it still makes me sad to see this just sitting there when there are people here and elswhere going hungry and without a roof over their heads. I hope the tourists you are hoping to attract with this will make the lease investment worthwhile.

  • @perthmintbullion The Banks are owned by Whom? And who OWNS the Perth MInt Is that the Treasury because our Aussie Treasury is owned by the WORLD BANK as is MOST Treasury's of this Planet...And WHO OWNS the WORLD BANK? The Powers That Be AKA Rothchilds, Builderburgs etc. SO WHO OWNS THE 1 Tonne Kangaroo..... Not the People, THE Elite. Prove me Wrong PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @perthmintbullion so in actual fact its worse, now you're giving tax payer money to the banks.

  • @ffh4500 The perth mint is a PROFITABLE business that makes money for the state. I sure they realise the tourist potential of having a 1 ton coin at their mint. It is a smart business decision and I congratulate them for it. Perth Mint leading the world again.

  • @alstar70 Plus that gold isnt going anywhere, they still have it, they didnt spend it on boos or something

  • @alstar70 More distractions for the masses in this program. Who really cares who holds the world's biggest coin. A ton of gold in the people's hands would kick start any economy back to rolling again. Enjoy your circus and lack of bread. It's coming to your stomach.

  • @chop98 i think your confused with your economy 17 trillion debt,,australias strong..so hey if we have the largest gold coin so be it,,you have had things you are proud of that wasted money and didnt give it to the poor so why is this different..

  • @alstar70 Can you Prove your Statements on Money for the STATE? I suggest you do more research to find out WHO OWNS WHAT ON THIS PLANET.

  • @ffh4500

with happy money-printing that is about to start worldwide, in a few years the Australians will be glad they have their national savings stored in gold rather than EUR or USD or even AUD. IMO this is a great investment that will secure Australian gov and protect from devaluation of national reserves. though a bit eccentric, it also boosts Australian gov credibility. if Greece had invested like this, they wouldn't have to shutdown their universities now.

  • @ffh4500 the gold does not get destroyed in the process, so they only wasted like 10.000$, the cost of making it.

  • @ffh4500 Every year they own it, the price is worth more. Good investment !

  • DO WANT

  • Ruined by that ugly old bags face on it

  • @baldbollocks She would still beat you in a fight.

  • @baldbollocks Thats true. I prefer the kangaroo side.

  • The huge Canadian gold coin looks nicer!

  • 1 tonne = 2,679.23 troy pounds = 32,150.75 troy ounces = 1000 Kilos

  • @slick88zx lol people in more advanced countries already know 1 tonne is 1000 kilos

  • @jayrush01 hahaha

  • Horrible soundtrack is horrible.

  • @Devar I concur the first track is really horrible but the second track is a OK.

  • @Devar Stupid poster is stupid.

  • Good on you guys, that's great work and such a huge effort. Nice mold work also.

Have you actually weighed the coin yet? Does it weigh close to the mark?

  • Can you imagine how much chocolate in under that gold wrapping?

  • @twin1010101010

I will help you carry it.

  • I wonder what cashies would give you for it?

  • wow amazing!

  • its a pity that the reverse side is so ugly ! ... no offense intended, but Australia needs to be a republic and get that antiquated monarch off there. Get a real constitution, declare proper independence and become a real nation. ... at least 1 ton of gold would look more pretty. There's my 2c soap box for the day while looking at a cool 51Million Aus $ . PS. Nice work Perth Mint. :). ... u guys must be doing all right to make a $51M piece of art for your lobby. Amazing.

  • @pixelspring you do realise if it went republic, the reverse would just be someone elses ugly head right?

it wouldnt make a slight difference...and austrialia isnt ruled by a british monarch...the queens simply a symbol, she has no actual power in australia cept fro ceremonial roles, which are usualy delegated to govenor generals, who are australian

  • @darthkarr "you do realise if it went republic, the reverse would just be someone elses ugly head right?"

You can do what America does and use symbols of liberty. (Too bad we don't actually practice what we preach, eh?)

  • that creature on the coin looks very life-like. So does the kangaroo.

  • Legal tender. Australia has entered the gold standard. This gold coin will back up the currency in Australia.

  • i want 1 or 2 of these

  • ~ 54 million USD in gold wieght but only 1mil AUD in Fiat face value.... GTFO

ill take 1 at face value please... then I'll melt it down and sell at spot then buy 50 more at face and still have 4 million in cash and 2.5 billion USD worth of gold.

  • @ImRichRu This is standard, all gold and silver coins that have legal tender status have a face value much lower than their actual value.

  • Do you think they know what coming ahead? New gold standard

  • The Kangaroo is nice - the other side, I can do without.

  • Beautiful work

  • @TheSilverWatch Gee, it's a little bit bigger than my 1 tenth oz gold coin.

Imagine finding that in your loose change, do you think they will ever sell it for face value ?

My guess is the face value on this coin would work best for a divorce lawyer. LOL
