Acknowlement ofCountry has been happening in NSW schools for years....at the beginning of all assemblies etc. Its part of the NSW Labor Govts policy. Its turning many children OFF abos as their is NO recognition for their own upbring anymore!
I can't comment on other states...I don't live in them! Assemblies at our local school are 2 times a week...so that is much more than once a year and YES the NSW Labor Govt did bring it in! I am simply pointing out that the Acknowledgement is nothing new!
Firstly, they have a ceremony exactly the same as this 2 TIMES a week at the school?
Secondly, even if they did, there's nothing wrong with that, because your idea of there being one homogenous white population who are marginalised by such a ceremony is flawed. Numerous nationalities and backgrounds make up "whites".
white-nation-being-kicked-while-its-down" fantasy. haha, you poor thing you. let me send you some condolences for losing john howard. it will come with a big thank fuck he is gone.
howard was always good at hypocrisy, he let the muslims in and then bashed them over the head with terrorist accusations. Haneef for instance, and the cronulla riots have been linked back to the government in starting racial disparity so that the general sheeple population went along with all the terror bullshit.
That's exactly right rageunderground. For a couple of years, people made one fatal mistake. And that was in forgetting that John Howard is a POLITICIAN. He lied and made out he was racist and conservative and at the last election there were STILL people waiting for him to defeat the army of political correcntess, despite having had him in power for 10 years. He'll do it next year, right? lol. Manipulation at its most disgusting.
at least we agree, and let it be said that rudd is not to be trusted either. wtf is it with his secret meetings with bush and cheney, he works for us the people, and should under no circumstance hide anything from us.
I think yhat some of you people should go for a long drive in this great country...why don't you move out of your cities and find out what an Australian really is!!
ive done that, moved from sydney a while back, and i dont miss the consumeristic attitudes 1 bit, going to one of our excellent and isolated beaches is way better than getting hammered at a sydney club for entertainment.
A national identity has nothing to do with where you are born and everything to do with how you identify with something. It's a subjective experience. Not a reality.
This was a beautiful thing. Very beautiful. The aboriginal singing, music, dancing, and ceremonial moves were so graceful and powerful. I had to smile at the white folk sitting straight and stiff in their chairs, :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This 'Welcome to Country' thing is an insult to Australia's Westminster system of government. It seriously overshadowed the traditional opening of the House of Representatives. Wilson Tuckey was right not to waste his time and attend this. Kevin Rudd is un-Australian. Labor does not deserve your vote at the next federal election.
To hell with tradition...How are traditions created anyway? What's wrong with creating new traditions? Scared of change and fresh ideas? Kevin Rudd has my vote at the next election, and considering that Brendan Nelson only has a 7% approval rate at the moment, Kevins looking pretty safe :)
So please allow us to call your land our home. We promise to give the UTMOST respect to this land - Please let us stay and live in your land - we will try to make a reasonable effort to compensate for your suffering. We will stand by your side to protect you and defend you - So please accept our sincere and profuse apologies -- Let's join us and sing together "I am, you are - we are Australians" From Sam Nguyen - Vietnamese Australian - Brisbane.
Great event-one small anomaly though. Matilda House-Williams, while delivering a good speach, wore guinea-fowl feathers in her headress. It is a feral bird, introduced by the white man.

So recognition is dependant on a 5 minute ceremony that occurs once a year?
please continue your "white-nation-being-kicked-while-its-down" fantasy. It's quite hilarious actually.
I also like it how you associate such ceremonies with NSW Labor.
Are you aware that John Howard's government let in record numbers of Muslims for 10 consecutive years?

Unfortunately even the apology was tarnished, as some christian minister came out and said "what a wonderful christian idea reconciliation is".
Though, he was caught in a strip club, so there is some hope for us.

There's no such thing as an "Australian". Try defining it.

What a dumb a##!!. You definitely need to go for a long drive!

Oh enlightened one, pi550. Tell us what an Australian is. Seeing as you have been on a long drive.. And this somehow makes you the all-knowing.

i dont have to look at the polls. i only have to see who is running the country to know what Australians think about this matter.

A "vast majority" voted for Labor knowing that an apology was on the agenda. I'd dare say a portion of the Conservative vote also agrees.
That just leaves a noisy minority to vent their selfish rage on places like YouTube and NineMSN.
