  • is someone dying at 1:21 ? xD

  • amazing aa landing!!!

  • ive never seen anything like this before!

    fricking awesome!

  • Guy filming:wow this is amazing now where was I ....(puts on headphones) "And I'm proud to be an American"

  • Rename this to "Too close for comfort" because there was no close call

  • That was just AWESOME!!!

  • Taken off and landed here many times... Love it.

  • awesome

  • American Airlines got the touchdown first. In my book, they both won because they landed.

  • The American Airlines Won!!!

  • The American Airlines plane wins :/ Haha

  • O.o where is the close call at? they are both landing on different runways and as i see it, since both are by meters of difference it is a normal procedure

  • both planes are out of each others wake, no disturbance to one another.

  • i bet the pilots jizzd in their pants :P

  • airbus vs boeing! :)

  • Both machines exact match of speed and glide slope. Awesome video.

  • @obese1konobe

    No shit, Sherlock.

  • Cool video!

  • as long as the pilots maintain visual seperation there is no problem with this at all, its actually very cool!

  • Who cares if his phone is on? Nothing can happen from it.

  • @TheAircraftdoctor lol, try it.

  • Ridiculous statement - this is not a close call at all. All major airports have parallel landing strips - only in bad weather are they not allowed to land simultaneously. The only crime here is not adhering to FAA LAW that states all passengers must turn off all electronic devices once the plane falls below 10,000 feet. Hope your account isn't traceable - you did break the law.

  • THIS IS BY FAR THE COOLEST VIDEO!!!!!!!!

  • Looks like someone didn't turn off their portable electronic device...there's your close call. Great video, horrible title.

  • This is all normal - close call is only 4 the ignorants that never fly LOL!

  • Who won?!?!?! my money was on AA >.>

  • WOW I WOULD FREAK OUT LOL

  • Yep... This is normal operations for SFO on a VFR (good weather) day... both aircraft had to report each other in sight and remain clear.

No danger here! Looks worse than it is!

  • @flatspin7 I think it looks cool!

  • This is not a race, both aircraft are on ILS final and both are flying at the standard final approach speed of 150 ktias and both are following the standard glide slope for this runway, thats why it appears as if they're flying in formation.

  • This is standard procedure at SFO when the ceiling/visibility and prevailing winds are within certain limits. When one of those required criteria are out of of limits, SFO goes into the ground delay program to whittle the number of arrivals per hour to accommodate a single arrival stream.

  • 1:37 of my life didn't went wasted..... It's pretty nice. Now it's a test to see who lands smoother

  • AA wins :D

  • this is perfectly legal. if they have visual separation and on final to parallel runways, its all good.

  • epic mooning moment..

  • Is that within the limits that they have to keep aircraft separated by

  • @TheFr3sh1 yeah, its normal at San Francisco to have parallel landings like this

  • @iamontrak Cool thank you

  • @TheFr3sh1 your welcome

  • @iamontrak Correct. in VFR conditions, parallel runways at KSFO are both usable; however, in IFR there, only one of the parallel runways are usable since the FAA dictates that parallel runways must be at least 1/2 mile apart to be used concurrently in IFR conditions. This is why Seattle got its third runway, because Seattle has a lot of IFR weather when it's not summer...and they've been getting busier.

  • I'd like to know if the ATC on duty still has their job....

  • @djmp69

lol why? Simultaneous landings do happen.

  • TCAS: YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG

  • haha i bet the pilots went crazy: TRAFFIC TRAFFIC TRAFFIC TRAFFIC

  • Comment removed

  • Cool Video dude,,the VA pilots did all they can to win the race but AA pilots did their best to win the touchdown....but a big question who get first on the gate or ramp?

  • dix.........

    not fun

  • dix.........

  • american airlines won

  • way to turn off electronics during landing, you could've got everyone killed ... just kidding nice vid

  • Oh no too close!!!

  • @calvin19951022 Your kiding right?

  • the atc would say: " virgin america flight # TRAFFIC ALERT! 3 o'clock less than 1 mile at 3000 MD80 report them in sight"

  • the atc would say: " virgin america flight # TRAFFIC ALERT! 3 o'clock less than 1 mile at 3000 MD80 report them in sight

  • I've seen this happen on quite a few occasions. It happened to me 3 times in Atlanta (9L and 9R), twice in Boston (22L and 22R), and once in Orlando (18L and 18R).

  • Visual approaches they can be pretty close. If IFR and doing ILS it has to be at least 2,500 ft and spacing of aircraft are staggered spacing of 1.5 miles required. Greater than 4,300 between the two runways its consider independent parallel ILS approach and do not need to be staggered. But there's a non-transgression line if either get too far off into the other path, ATC orders both aircraft to break away. So in bad visibility there are limits to parallel approaches.

  • @jmitterii2 at katl they have ils prm which is close proximity

  • Sweet formation airline landing XD

  • I don't know why they titled this video "Close Call" but then again this is the general public that we are dealing with.

  • Every pilot in this 2 airplane of course tried to contect first to the ground , to reqwest first taxi to the gate haha

  • This is called formation landing. Next, bombing runs!

  • best video thank you

  • u got to see a super 80/mad dog land beside you!! U r the luckiest plane spotter alive!

  • I've never seen anything like that before!

  • Why the fuck were they allowed to fly this close? If the FAA found out the pilots AND ATC people would have lost their jobs/licenses.

  • @SodomGomorrahWaDC Incorrect...they do this at a lot of the larger airports due to the amount of traffic. they bring them in on a very cautious approach. each pilot aware of the other. Not to mention, they aren't as close as you think. That is zoomed in quite a bit.

  • @osumbuckeyenut I know, they look like they're 50 feet away... But 200-300 feet is extremely close, airplanes almost never get within a mile of each other.

  • @SodomGomorrahWaDC parallel runways are very common in larger airports.

  • Best view of a plane landing

  • its even nicer if the other plane took a video of your plane too...

    that would be great!

  • 2 runways = you can do that.

  • smooth landing by MD80 i think....

  • nice!

  • Very cool vid!! What equipment did you video with?

  • 58 people mad cause they rode greyhounds all their life!

  • This is fuckin brilliant, is this real

  • this is fake

  • Ever heard of "Please turn off all your electrical devices during take-off and landing" ? :D

  • I've seen this a few times coming into SFO.

  • Lucky you!!!

  • Airbus A319 Vs MD-83!! MD-83 won by 5 seconds of touching the runway. . . They do that in JFK to besides SFO. . .

  • Nice, odds of catching the two landing synchronized--- priceless...

  • Nice Video!! Thanks for sharing!

  • the AA won

  • Thats fuckin sick nice video but i think the MD-83 beat you on landing

  • Wow how lucky to catch that!x

  • A vigin? In SAN FRANCISO? Awesome!

  • Absolutely one of the coolest vid's on YouTube!!

  • never forget...

  • I thought drag racing was for cars...

  • "TRAFFIC! TRAFFIC!" says the tcas man...

  • @zimsplat They turn it on TA instead of TA/RA so they transmit but do not recieve :D

  • 57 dislikes were the ppl on the plane that lost

  • @jenni19801 Which is the A320. First to touchdown = winner. MD-80 > Airbus.

  • Show offs

  • Thats badass!

  • I bet that was Exciting for All the passengers form both jets to see each other in each window like mom look at that plane there like OMG @_@

  • I heard a friend of mine say that there were parallel take-off an landings at San Francisco Airport, never believed it until I saw it

  • Virgin owned

  • Pilot:

"Ladies and Gentlemen we will be taxiing to our assigned gate..... and if you look to your left, you can wave to the virgin airline pilot who bet me $50 bucks that he would touchdown first."

  • Heh....If you have never seen this happen you just don't fly into Frisco or Chicago enough.

On busy days you will see parallel landings reasonably often.

    It's not a big deal.

I love it when it happens.

  • drag race

  • Its an ILS PRM App, SFO has been approved to use them. You can use both runways which normally would be unable to have parallel approaches. Special procedures are used to make sure they don't stray towards each other.

  • Wow - first time I've seen that - cool, thnx

  • Cooooolll!!!!!

  • Parallel landing.... if only everyone was a pilot. Then they would understand

  • @flyinhigher1000 if only every pilot read the regs... Any parallel runways less than 4,300 ft center line to center line you have to have a diagonal separation of at least 1.5 miles.

  • What a treat, you get to see how you land on a runway AND you get to feel it at the same time from inside!

  • If that is considered a "close call" then what is considered an accident? The pilot spilling his coffee?

  • I DONT GET IT IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE RACE

  • None of them are Virgin

  • lame wasnt worth the bandwith

  • Either the air traffic controllers were sleeping or this is a fake video !

  • @smartdon007 neither its a normal KSFO landing

  • Airplane racing. AA MD-83 won. YAY

  • It a controlled close call!

  • yeah not a close call, I had a plane landing right next to me when I was going into tampa, just a regular parallel landing.

  • clearly a close call. fire the controllers. call NORAD, who's in charge of our skies we're all gonna die.

What's out vector Victor? Roger Roger. Do we have clearance Clarence?

  • American airlines vs I think tompson

  • Your landing didn't look as comfy as theirs though

  • Just awesome!

  • cool!!!

  • I would not have believed it if i hadn't seen the video..

  • The question we'll never know the answer to is: Who got to their gate first?

  • @SCE2AUX

If I am not totally mistaken the AA was on the Terminal side.

The Virgin would not have been routed to taxi across the active in front of the AA...so I would bet $1.00 that the AA got to the gate first.

  • @hammerogod Sir, I believe you may have lost your bet. For starters, search for SFO on Wikipedia to see the runway diagram. The VA flight landed terminal side (runway 28L) while the AA flight landed on the farther side (runway 28R). Considering that both VA and AA use the same terminal, unless during taxi VA was held back, then the VA flight should have made it first. The AA flight must then cross the active before reaching the terminals. That'll be $1.00 please =D

  • @einsteinboricua

    =; -)

    OK..I am schooled.

It's been too long since I flew into SFO.

  • Before I completely admit failure I want you to notice how quickly the AA was breaking.

He probably took the turn-out he was slowing for at 1:25 (Delta or Kilo)...putting him across the active behind the VA ... and on the Bravo taxiway first ... therefore allowing him to beat the VA to the Terminal.

    coulda happened...................

  • @hammerogod You are forgiven. For the record, I've never flown into SFO (unless Flight Simulator counts). XD

  • @SCE2AUX - with AA having the worst on-time record in the industry I would put my money on the Virgin.

  • @SCE2AUX hahahahahah I like that

  • BEST VIDEO YOU LUCKY BASTARD TO FILM THAT

  • There racing as they are running out of fuel and their is only one runway

  • thats no close call they were racing!!

  • what a smooth md 83 landing

  • close call? lmao..k

  • Close call (title)... really. This is standard at SFO... runways 28L/R.

  • This explains what you're seeing in the video:

    flysfo.com/web/export/sites/default/download/about/news/pressres/fact-sheet/pdf/PRM_SOIA_version_1.pdf

  • And the MD-80 wins!

  • @deadcar I was wondering that...the airbus was ahead but the md touched down first...so who technically won? Is this like golf in racing terms though? Who ever stops first wins...

  • It's a PRM approach. To be used where independent parallel approaches cannot be used. In this case both aircraft are monitered by ATC who checks their precision. In case of deviation one of the aircraft will be told to abort the approach. The abort call may also mean the aircraft will have to make a descending turn to a certain altitude and heading before being allowed to climb again.

So it's not standard and it requires pilot qualification.

  • lol .formation landing

  • That' s really cool

  • Gotta love SFO, and parallel runway landings.

  • great job virgin america you glided for 13 seconds yall suck and that can happen at any airport with parallel runways

  • Anyone who thinks this a rare probably has never flown into ORD, ATL, CHA, DFW, MIA, DTW, or DEN with a window seat.

  • @JTNeon311 ATL isnt this close but its pretty kool looking to have 3 airliners flying together.....

  • people, read the description... The title probably doesn't mean "close call" as in danger, but as joke, as if the planes were racing, and determining the winner is a "close call".

It's amazing the low number of people that actually take the extra 3 seconds to READ DESCRIPTIONS ON VIDEOS

  • Wow. FAKE? or real?

  • Just a parallel landing - common place.

  • cute landing from the maddog

  • Happens all the time...you can even wave to the other passengers!

  • This is normal

  • visual separation is probably what we saw?

  • that is cool.

  • Nice video!!!!!!

  • Where's the close call??

  • thats pretty cool!! =D

  • ZOMG!!! Parallel approaches. The horror.

  • what close call?

  • this is a very cool (and rare) footage of two commercial airliners landing side by side, thumbs up !

  • 2 runways

  • I love parallel landings

  • Nothing unusual here. Two planes landing in two different runways in parallel .

  • Oh my god!!

  • Pinks :)

  • Pinks :)

  • nice video...absolutely wrong title....some people need to stop calling "close call" to these vids where an airplane is simply filmed from another airplane.

  • that would be a PRM Approach!!!

  • SFO's simultaneous parallel landings are intended to provide civilian commercial pilots the chance to fly like military aviators and land in formation. ;D

  • This airport reminds me of GTA IV

  • that's just huuuuuuudge mirror )))

  • Approaching runways 28 L and 28 R. Great!

  • Very cool.... must be a busy airport to allow double landings!

  • @TheRaginTiger Most busy airports in the US allow parallel approaches

  • he beat you down ;)))

  • Look at the shadow of AA, at 0:51, looks like the concord.....

  • I just looked at the reverse thrusters on that... md80? Yah, MD80

  • Is this an a380?

  • @GameMaster2565 I can't quite tell what it is, but I don't think the wingspan looks long enough. I know it's airbus though, considering the winglets.

  • @cvbcbcmv its a A-320 These winglets are signature of Airbus

  • @GameMaster2565 I doubt it. Virgin america operate A320's I know that, so thats probably what it is.
