  • This is also known as the Sand stitch. Then there is a very similar stitch called the rice stitch that's just a little different. Knitswithcatfur has a video explaining the difference. She's the one who did the research.

  • Can you please show me how to do the pattern in red... right below the blue... it is sooo pretty.

  • @lisanb198020gmailcom

IT'S DIAGONAL RIB STITCH. Look for the video on my channel.

  • I wonder why they call it the tunic stitch

  • Is this also called the rice stitch?

  • @jcsreader

    not that I know of.

  • Thanks Judy! I think this pattern is also great for hats (especially for men hats, 'cause you knit all the hat with one pattern - this one- and when you folded it it will have a different pattern.

    Happy knitting!

  • slow down! i just know the knit part. youre doing it too fast :[

  • sorry. hope you were able to get it anyway.

  • I'm just demonstrating the stitch.

  • i have no clue wut this stuff is LOLso im just clicking and clicking and by the way, what is it that your knitting :)

  • what size needles are these?

  • size 8, but it can be done on any size.

  • hi judy..how can we decrease in this pattern?

  • What are you making? Just decrease as you normally would and try to pick up the pattern from that point. good luck with it.

  • Cool. I'll have to try this.

  • thanks judy :)

  • I always slip the first stitch and knit the last stitch backwards. It makes a nice clean salvage. Thanks for your comment. Glad you like the video. Keep looking for more and happy knitting!

  • Hi Judy,

Would it be possible for you to do a video showing how to make neat edges? I know you slip the first stitch and knit the last stitch backwards, but it's always so fast I seem to miss exactly what is going on. It might be really helpful if you could help us understand what the edges will look like with/without this technique. Anyhow, I hope you think this would be worth a video...thanks for all the great teachings!

  • why do you always skip the first one and never knit it? i always garter stitch the first one... please help :) Awesome video by the way!

  • @dominicanchu1ita i have to agree why does she skip the first one i always knit the first one

  • @Amphibraider you skip the first one so that the edges look clean and pretty. it's called a selvage stitch.
