A thank you from me too,a Dutchman born in 1966, to the Canadian people! Since WW2 our peoples have 'mingled' pretty intensively, with many Dutch now living in Canada and also Canadians living over here. Despite the distance, we do a lot of business with each other. I would hope that we see a bit more of Canadai n newsitems etc because Canda isn't in the news that often.
They liberated netherlands when only 5000 germans were defending it in 1945,allies had huge fail at operation market garden in 1945, german fallschirmjager,SS nederland, and another panzer regiments owned the american, british, polish at Operation market garden, course in 1945 they liberate it when there are only 5000 german remaining, from which 1500 died, and still inflicting 7000 casualties on canadians.ROFL,that proves how good canadian are in combat, lol.
Bullshit. You say that only 5000 Germans were defending Holland yet the Canadians captured that many in Groningen alone in mid April 1945 and a further 117,000 in western Holland surrendered a few weeks weeks later. German sources suggest the Canadians were quite good at their job. Exact German casualties likley will never be known but they were likely in excess of Canadian ones.
@Number7smokesForEver don't bother with SkadTheReaper - he's a neonazi. he is romanian and loves that romania helped the third reich. he also wishes that more jews had been killed in the ovens.
we know what is war its in our Blood the Canadian history is a war and we will always fight the tyranny until peace can exist we defended your ancestor to destroy the evil force of the Nazi.
we never forget you canadians for our freedom u all gave us and your liberation from hunger and the nazis im very happy to live in this free world and its all because of canada we love you
From a recent VET....I will always try to do the best thing that I can within my means...I love people and always will. Cheers and good will.....to the people of holland any time you need me ill be there!
The only person who knew some English was a very old man, who fought in the Boer war. The Canadian officer asked; "Any Germans left here?"
The old man replied; "No sir mister captain. Fucking bastards ran with pants full of shit yesterday and steal horse and wagon of my son. Is black horse, good horse. You take back horse and kill fuckers, yes please? We need horse.
netherlands was one of the few countrys worth liberating... and if it happened all over again, i would gladly join up with canada if it ment helping out australia, britian or the netherlands
CANADA THANK YOU FOR LIBERATING HOLLAND. We are forever thankfull I hope that we can help you someday. Forever brothers. Lots of respect! Greetings from Holland
My mother was living in a small village in Friesland at the end of WW II. She was the first in the village to meet allied soldiers; Canadians.
She didn't speak English at the time, but the soldier gave her a chocolate bar and she ran back to the village, screaming "De Canadezen! De Canadezen komen!" (The Canadians! The Canadians are coming!). They did not believe her, until she showed them the chocolate bar. :)
Thank you Canadians for liberating my country, and for being so kind to my mother.
Wow! Powerful video. I joined a reserve army unit in the mid-80's, in British Columbia, and I recall most of the regiments in the area had a number of "battle honours" from either Belgium or Nederlands (from both wars) on their standards. It is sad the circumstance, but I'm glad we Canadians forged sutch a strong bond of friendship with the Dutch. My wish is that all nations be allowed to feel this same friendship with one another. Greetings from Canada.
do it all over again. We only did the human thing there was to do, and from the deepest part of my heart, I would do the same. We welcomed Princess Juliana with warm, welcoming arms along with Dutch WWII refugees and all I can say is that any Dutch has always, and will always be welcome in my home. We are brothers, sharing a special bond few countries experience like we do.
While your gratitude is heartwarming, touching and ultimately greatly appreciated by us, to be honest it is not necessary (I mean that in the kindest way possible). What I mean is that no thank you's are required, because Canada simply did what needed to be done: liberate a beautiful, yet suffering country under an oppressive regime. Our veteran's spilled blood for you, many died, while many others risked their lives. You know what? I'm willing to bet every single one of them would be proud to
Thanks for posting this. Some of the most heroic acts in WWII came from Canadian boys who gave the ultimate sacrifice - their lives - to liberate Holland from the Nazi's. Canadians will ALWAYS be there for Holland. Canadians also notice and appreciate that the people of the Netherlands remember.
after victory at the battle of the scheldt there was a celibration cerimony, british and american officers were there and NO canadian officer invited. This always bugged the dutch and they did it again for canadians in the 90's. CANADA very seldom gets its due , but the dutch more than remember and for that THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH! my grandfather was wounded at bergen op zoom oct 1944
Hello My Dutch Brothers I'm proud that we Canadians Librated your country. The Netherlands is My second Home Canada is my First. Long Live our Friendship we will always come for you and defend you from The Evil!
My town in the Netherlands was liberated in operation canonshot by the canadians.. Even today i find relics of that battle (my vid).. Thanks Canada...
North Americans are Americans and Canadians - the revolution split these 2 brothers from British colonizing peoples - the loyalists went north and rebels stayed south - 2 kids from the same family.
Canadians are a very hard-fighting people and a people with huge huge hearts. In WW1, they had a hugely smart and good General, General Arthur Currie. They were the only troops in WW1 that did not flee the gas attacks; too proud, they died, and fought with awards - the shock troops the Germans feared most. Too stubborn, they kept on coming no matter what. It's sad and I weep now for them now, the young men as smart as we are today, knew what they were doing, and 'gave all' for a free world.
i live in the netherlands in the south in a city called maastricht wich was actually liberated by americans the dutch are very thankfull to all allies that pushed our enemy the german assholes back tot heir caves couple of weeks ago 17 september the libearetion day of maastricht was and there were about 170 americans dressed as ww2 army soldiers and about 40 vehicles from motorcihcles to sherman tanks and halftracks even a b25 bomber flew over it was awesome thank u! now were fighting sidebyside
My great uncle went a few years back and the children are taught of what the Canadian soldiers did during the war. They all come running up to him and others veterans hugging and kissing them and being very grateful. It makes me very proud not just to have someone in my family to have fought in the war. But to have made such a difference and have people care so much still to this day and to recognize. We should all be very proud to be Canadian.
As another fellow Canadian, I can also say without any hesitation if need were to arise again, we would be there for our Dutch brothers and sisters...We Canadians love the Dutch people and the Netherlands!
@landon99svt My father was in Holland and he loved the people. They we billeted in homes of Dutch families and my father always appreciated the Dutch and how they suffered under the Nazis.
Thank Holland for keeping up the fight while still occupied and for helping Canadian troops do their job. If the brave Nederlanders hadn't stockpiled stolen German small arms and engaged in active and passive resistance, Canada's job would have been much harder.

In our village one morning the Canadians came.
We give you pig.''
Canadians all laughed.
