  • I drove a lot of detroits but a good 335 with a 12 button in the pump and a t-590 blower was hard to beat unless it was by a 1693 T/A clatterpillar

  • the buzzin' dozen, fucken excellent !!

  • nice cabover...good for freight...

  • very nice sound , love it.

  • NICE TRUCK, THE RIMS LOOK GOOD.

  • yep, they were made with fuel mileage being the 1st priority, not exactly a high power engine, but will get pretty much any job done eventually.

they were known for cracking the heads around the injectors although

  • '68. Look in the description to the right.

  • duz it have a jake brake or didnt they make one for it

  • yes it does come with a jake but you would be better dragging your feet for as little as they held back

  • If you ever really drove one, you'd probably know what it's called.

  • nice IH sign

  • first thing I noticed..lol

  • first thing I noticed too.

  • Whats the fuel milage like?

  • not even 1mpg hauling

theres a guy on here who gets 2 out of his 6-71 dump truck

  • They sound neat! But they phazed them out for a reason.I know the 2 stroke makes little torque verses say the N14 Cummins

  • You are showing your ass

  • Sometimes...

  • Are you friggin serious? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but even for the size of this block you'd think it do at least 5-7 mpg

  • I don't know about the 12's or the 6's but my friend's V8 Detroit in an old KW cabover tractor got 5 mpg loaded and 7 mpg empty, just like my 350 bigcam Cummins. The only difference when we were loaded is that I had to slow down on the big hills and wait for him, and I had more weight than him. Empty though, we were pretty well matched for power on the hills.

  • The Series 60 Detroit Diesel 4 strokes get about 10 mpg. My brother drives an '02 Freightliner with a Series 60 and he gets good mileage.

  • i love the IH sign. with a DD kenworth.

  • nothin' like a two stroke detroit for power and sound.

  • 萌え☆

  • That truck sounds sooo mean that when it starts the motor literally growls and barks when it revs.

  • my grandpa has a 79 kenworth long nose and he was a v12 in it blew up and said he needed a bigger one and got the v12 92 its huge and fast for a truck

  • WOW very good the sound

  • PLEASE, a Vid onboard!

  • Tony, hit us with a video of the Emeryville when you get a chance. Mike G.

  • I will the first chance I get Mike. Tony W.

  • needs more wheelbase then it rides like a bus. Always liked COE's better for "sightseeing" and learned on Emeryvilles with Ross cam steering. Had 71 KW COE w/ 12V71NA, 220" wheelbase. Used to give Monfort a run for their money across 80 in PA and dropped 1 gear on snowshoe with 46,000 in box. Those days are long gone. 4 valve heads didn't last with reduced sulphur. That's a nice truck though.

  • Thanks speedskiff2. It doesn't ride too bad though now with torsion, and good roads here in Ky. tony

  • Where is this truck? Is it for sale?

  • I'll bet that thing has some POWER

  • gotta love the ol dirty dozen detroits

  • I always had a spot for an old KW like that and I love the way that ol girl sounds

  • The reason the 12V-71 had been succeeded by the 8V-92 was, for the most part, less cylinders to deal with; just as why many diesel engines today use 6 cylinders.

  • A big 6 cylinder gets better mileage than a small 12 cylinder.

  • They stopped years ago because drivers did not like being in an accident before the truck did...LOL. Good to see them making a comeback. They are better for tight areas as there is no nose...and that can be good.Except whe your tired and you forget your 6 feet off the ground with not much to stand on..

Last time I drove one was a Freightshaker and it was about 1979...or there about. A little sleeper with 10speed and a 290cummy turbo,Great truck...I sure miss that old girl.

  • They do still make cab over for the usa market. But not nearly as much as they use to. Though conventional's do ride nicer. I'll still take a good old bladder busting cab over any day. My dad owned a trucking company since the 1940's and I remember as a kid having to wear a snow suit and boots plus a blanket just to keep from freezing to death in his old 1966 cracker box. Also remember looking down and seeing a little snow bank by my feet.

  • any new cabower there??i wonder kenworth just in australia??american not want cabowers anymore ????i wonder? can any tell me??

  • no more american cab-overs (class 8) as of 2007. they are still available in smaller applications (landscaping trucks, home heating fuel delivery trucks)

  • what about freightliner argosy

  • I never really saw the cabover market as a big one here, I myself would prefer a conventional any day! and apparently the new American emissions is making it harder to be "modular:, the trucks today are now becoming more and more like cars. more fucking plastic and ridiculous parts!

  • when i was a kid my ol man was driving for mayflower and he dropped a 1271 in his 77 gmc cabover... twin 6 inch stacks... he is deaf now but loved that old truck...lol

  • When I was just a kid about 1977 My dad drove truck for a company haulling steel, That had five GMC astro's with 12v71 detroit diesel engines.

  • what a classic that truck is awesome my dad had the same truck before i was born heard stories about them gettin shifted WFO

  • man you gotta post more. this is a great rig

  • nice engine

    does it get like 2mpg?

  • i killed kenny!

  • Bast@#d!!

    lol!

  • Dude if I had the privi of owning that truck id have to modify the garage jus so she could be within eyeshot...my dad had a old 68 mack cabover with a v-8 and I am in love with the characteristics, sounds and smells of the old detroit stuff and mack stuff.!! great truck man

  • Thank you, and the full noise is comming soon. Going to try and get a video under a load. Tony.

  • Lovely.

Tight clearence between stacks and top of door!

What kind of torque this thing have?

  • I think 1,150 ftlbs according to the manual.

  • WOW, that could almost turn the earth!!! did u know that the most powerful ship engine has over 500,000bhp and over1.5 million lb/ft of torque!! insane.

Have u seen the TV show driving on ice roads or something, trucks in canada on frozen lake roads?

  • Now that is a very rare beast. Would be great to see a vid of her on full noise

  • I've seen the 12V71 in a couple of W-model long nose Kennys!

  • Nice, now we want more! ;-)

  • awesome !

  • is hse a twin stick shifter

  • I always called them the Buzzin dozen

  • A rare V12 Detroit Diesel, eh!

  • Ya, I guess. Just wanted to own a Dirty dozen so I fixed this one up! Lots a fun!

  • So I know it's a 12V71.

  • It and the 6-71 and 6V-92 all sound similar because of what is known as crank phasing.

  • Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

  • can you say 2 stroke
