I'm glad to see that a lot of people here can tell that this guy is wrong. Power does not corrupt, it is corrupted individuals that receive power... and its just not political power like he says, but economic also. It is often easier for those in economic power to get away with things in a country like the u.s. because it is often through the back door. This video sounds like propaganda to me.
Doubtlessly economic power does corrupt, but in a libertarian society (which we don't live in) no private citizen can use force on another person. This is the essence of the libertarian political philosophy, that power corrupts because only those in power have the privilege to initiate force. Even some of the most honorable men, the Founders, were corrupted to an extent by power. This video is true!
@EducatoriumEuphorium economic power is not the corrupting factor. saying that power corrupts is like saying guns kill... it is not the power doing anything, it is the people using the power. my argument is that the people in power who are corrupt are not corrupt because of their power, but that they were corrupt beforehand and then took power watch?v=kRpsbkYsdeE
Political power is an instrument like a gun. Guns don't kill, people kill. I think that IF there is a serpent within an individual, political power will bring it out. Those who try to do the right thing end up dead! The corrupting influence on political power is economic power. Nathan Rothschild said "I care not who makes the laws as long as I control the money." The ultimate answer is to KILL THE SERPENT, starting within ourselves and then in the world.
I would like to ask - and I ask this with all due respect to our American friends - why this unspoken premise that America SHOULD survive. No one was saying it was against the natural order of things when the Soviet Union disappeared, why is it a given that American CANNOT end. States come, States go. If the Roman world power crumbled that is simply how the cookie crumbles. The End of America would not be the of all life on the planet. Why is it presumed a BAD thing?
Because America is the most powerful bastion of a SEMI-free society. If we fell fully into statism, the only free societies left would really be Hong Kong and Switzerland!

@SuperMatt2112 Probably they resist because they are evil them self, because they (or loved ones) work for the government, the army, navy police, etc.
Maybury insists that only government has the coercive power he attacks, yet even he refers to clear exceptions, as is clear in the Milgram experiment he refers to--no government there, but subjects felt compulsive authority nonetheless. And corporations exercise their own kind of power--if you can't pay, you can't get health care, prescription drugs, safety; you can't drive a car if an insurance company won't cover you, and you have no access to housing if you can't pay.
Uncle Eric is the Mentor's Mentor for all American leaders who truly value Liberty.
He is clear, succinct, and gives the clarion call to our "human ecology" to not endorse the ill choice of printing mountains of money to "fix" the economy.
Excerpt from Penny Candy: "The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debase (print dollars) the currency." - Nikolai Lenin, 1870-1924, Socialist Founder of the Soviet Union
Richard is another voice of reason and insight in a sick and confused world. But how to get the brainwashed masses to put down the dope and get away from the tv set? Good will triumph over evil, there is no doubt of that. But at what cost?
Violence only begets violence because violence is a vicious circle. The punishment is the crime for a world without violence. False flags are state sanctioned terror which is being used to commit genocide on the middle east to steal their resources. The only way governments covertly destroy, rape, pillage and plunder is to blame the victim for a crime and then use brutal force. Only to be plausibly denied using corporate media as a launch pad. Only psychopaths could cause and deny such carnage.
The US Department of 'defense' has never been used to defend so why is it called that? It should be renamed the US Department of War. All a country ever needed was a Humanitarian Aid Group assisting in a crisis, that is able to defend. Violence is a lethal Meme perpetrated by the Military, Police and Prisons. Promoted by the Corporate media. and Sport. But governments claim they are 'opposed' to violence? A contradiction in terms. In the 21st Century there ought be no violence. None!
@Publik The largest working arm of HUMANITARIAN AID to foreign countries comes from the arms of soldiers and sailors (our department of defense) to crisis' like Haiti (hurricane), Sri Lanka (Tsunami), and New Orleans (hurricane).
They have defended many more homeless and fatherless than they have made homeless and fatherless.
@Faith41Son I said, that they have never defended anything. They have always been an imperial force. Google: History They Don't Teach You in Schools and When False Flags Don't Fly. So Soldiers and Sailors are Militants! Handing out aid while committing genocide in the Middle East doesn't make them a Humanitarian Aid Group! It makes them cold blooded pre meditated murderers who have used humanitarian aid as a shelter to protect them against criticism for human rights abuse. You seek the truth!
@Faith41Son Google: Unknown News Casualties. These are the results on that site: Total injured in Afghanistan 48,644, Total injured in Iraq 1,673,138. Total killed in Afghanistan 19,180. Total killed in Iraq 890,501.
What about the defense of their fathers? mothers? Children? What about their homes? There is some of the truth go and find the rest!
Not just power in the political realm but when one human is empowered over another (workplace) it's just a matter of time. Governmental abuse of power is just more obvious and with greater consequences. Will share vid.
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."
"God’s children are to separate themselves from politics, from any alliance with unbelievers. Do not take part in political strife. Separate from the world, and refrain from bringing into the church or school ideas that will lead to contention and disorder. Dissension is the moral poison taken into the system by human beings who are selfish." - Counsels to the Church, pg. 316
"Man has dominated man to his injuries".....Why would you look to ANY manmade government for freedom? Albeit, lesser evils exist in various political formats, its freedom of truth one should be continuing to seek out. Worldly political freedom is a farce.
Thank you so much for this video; I have shared it on my own blog and on Facebook (giving you credit and links, of course).
Mr. Maybury, I have been reading your Uncle Eric books and EWR Report since my senior year of high school. Your writings have been indispensable in forming my views on politics and economics. I'm 25 now and far more cynical and suspicious of government than most of my peers, and I hope what I've learned has helped open a few more eyes to the mess around us.
I appreciate your (give them an exit/excuse) strategy, but some people pursue political office because they are already "snakes"; and if your words were to fall upon the ears of all the snakes--those that were, prior to, AND those that were corrupted by power, you might just appeal sufficiently to the once-good snakes that they will exit office and leave room for more of the innate slitherers...
Damn! I sure am a pessimist. Is there an historical precedent that can confirm me as pessimist?
The WSJ had an excellent article called "The Power Trip" on 8/14. When normal people are given power, they quickly start acting like they're brain damaged. They start doing things you typically see in people with frontal lobe injuries. Very interesting study in psychopathology.
