  • I love this! My mum made it for me :) Only I'm a bit afraid to wear it..

  • @MCmirrr Aww why are you afraid to wear them?? I bet they look great and as long as you rock them with pride everyone will love them on you :)

  • I love the fact that you put enough detailing into it to give it a finished look :) I hate it when DIY projects end up looking like something an 8 year old would make

  • @alebr009 Thanks, glad you liked the details :) A lot of people think badly of DIY because they think it means unfinished but it doesn't have to be! I want to create things that I (and other people) would want and love to wear! :)

  • i don't get why they have to have a name like "boyfriend shorts" just because they're shorts that actually cover your ass. really... they could be called "mom shorts" since moms wear shorts that cover. just as a lot of people still call high waisted jeans "mom jeans", myself included. shorts like this look SOOO much better. it drives me up the wall that they, among other things, can't just be called "shorts" and have to be something catchy like "boyfriend shorts."

  • @MsBinkies 'Boyfriendshorts' doesn't really have anything to do with length...just the fit. It means the fit is looser similar to the loose fit jeans guys wear. Having different names for them just makes it easier for people to understand what you're talking about. Kind of like how we don't can every pair of jeans 'jeans'. There are relaxed fit, skinny, wide leg, high waist, flare, dark wash, faded, etc. I like having different names for things...then again I even name my sewing machines :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld i mean, i get that. but why can't the designers just say "relaxed" lol. the whole kitsch of "boyfriend" things really drives me nuts. i mean, all of my boyfriends shorts/jeans were always looser than what womens respective boyfriends fits are. and like "boyfriend" sweatpants. now that REALLY gets me! lol. but i would far prefer "relaxed fit" over boyfriend. it's not a stance of being ulta feminine or anything (b/c i'm not)... it's just the kitsch i can't stand. lol

  • Whitney, I love your vids but could you slow them down a bit. I am fairly new at sewing and sometimes I really want to see what it is that you are talking about. Thanks, I like this, I am heading straight for my sewing machine to revamp a few pairs of jean I have been meaning to repurpose.

  • Dunno if I've said it before but I love your measuring tape :)

They look super cute, great tut ^_^

  • Huh? Boyfriend shorts have been available in Europeanen stores for about two years! Is US fashion on a delay or something? I love yours tho!

  • @iraj94 We've had similar styles like the bermuda shorts but this is the first season they are actually being called boyfriend shorts. I'm loving them because the fit and length are perfect :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld Hmm.. I live in Canada, and just like iraj94 said, boyfriend shorts have been in stores for quite a while now..

  • Awesome idea :)

  • So cute and so easy. Thank you for this!

  • Love them! Great job:)

  • What a great idea--so cute! Thanks Whitney!

My daughter has some shorts with a longer tab. It has two sets of buttons, so you can button them higher or lower depending on what look you want. I might try this with the longer tab, altho that will mean sewing buttonholes-ug! ;)

  • @jatoha Hehe I hear you on that! I don't like doing button holes...which is why I opted for the fake look in this tutorial :) Let me know if you make a pair!

  • cool :D

  • Wow amazing

  • I loved this tutorial. It gives people who may just be getting adventurous with the world of diy the perfect jump on in point. Not everyone has a stash of fabric and courage to start completely from scratch right out of the gate and I think it is wonderful that you inspire us to work and or rework what we already have:). Thanks!!!

  • @AmybugsStyle You said it perfectly! So glad you liked the tutorial :) I love reworking the things I already own...keeps me from wearing the same things time after time after time, saves money, and extends the life of outdated clothes!

  • I love the little tab and button on the side. It really adds so cute unique details to a pair of shorts! Thanks for the tutorial!

  • @megasaurusrx Thank you! Glad you like it :) I love the little buttons I used...they are plastic, but look metal! 12 in a pack for $1 at Dollar Tree...can't beat that :)

  • its pin not pen lol that drives me crazy :P

  • @Malakaiea Yes, I know the difference and can say them properly...just don't like how I sound saying 'pin' :)

  • @Malakaiea it's her accent :( it's not very nice to say that.

  • @emmer84 if you notice the ":P" i wasnt trying to be mean

  • Great. I love how your tuts are short and sweet. Your tab idea is very clever and would be super cute on the sleeves of an oversized shirt too.

  • @laurabeeseattle Great idea! I would look good on a shirt sleeve :)

  • Love the shorts

  • Awesome tutorial! they turned out very cute. I may just have to try this!

  • @kitkatqueen Glad you liked it! Let me know how yours turn out :)

  • These are adorable! You are so creative.....and I love how you say "pen", I get what your saying.

  • @yoliebean Hehe thank you so much!

  • So cool! You are amazing :)

  • @BeautyWithArtemi Aww thank you so much! Glad you liked it :)

  • I need sewing machine! haha. :)

  • T SHIRT RECONSTRUCTION!!!!

  • I love these! And I have a pair of trousers that's perfect! :D Thank you for the tutorial :)

  • @TammyHallam That's awesome! Let me know how they turn out :)

  • Very cute, I am going to have to try this

  • Cute!

  • For once i wish theyd make these things from scratch

  • @ochiechick Teaching how to draft a shorts pattern is very difficult as well as actually getting a well fitting pair of shorts from it. That is why I choose to recon a pair of pants. You can however use a store bought sewing pattern and create a similar pair of shorts that way. Hope that helps :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld well its all a hit or miss anyway....I think its better u teach drafting the pattern and have us understand that we have to play around with the pattern to get it right. What's DIY if you have to buy or already own a pair of pants to do this stuff. Its not a complete DIY if u cant do it from scratch...

  • @ochiechick Yes, I agree that teach the basics and letting someone decide how it works for them is great...but not everyone wants to make everything from scratch. I have shown how to create patterns for pj pants and other items, but also like to do thinks like this recon so I can inspire a wider range of people. I do however disagree that DIY means you have to make it 100% by yourself. I think anything can be DIYed as long as you put some of your orginality in it.

  • when you say and pin, it sounds like and pen =/

  • @MissieMai Yes I know I say it wrong. I sound like a hick when I saw pin properly so I choose to say it as 'pen'.

  • wonderful!! very nice

  • can you show us how to transform regular canvas pants into zipper pants?that would be really helpful

    thanks :)

  • Cute!;)

  • Thanks! I was looking for ways too fix up my loose pants :)

  • @GabGabGabberz Awesome! Glad you liked the tutorial :)

  • I loved the tutorial!

can you show us how to do it from the start?

oh, and please do stuf for boys too, thank you in advance :)

  • I love the little tabs!

  • @Evange Thanks :)
