ISO and RAR: they're ZIPtastic!

i downloaded a sound effects package to use for editing videos. It came in RAR type. I try to use winrar to unpackage it and it gets most of the way and then tells me to insert sounds effects disk into the drive. I don't know what to do or why it is doing this

hey so i got a question.. i downloaded a game..yea i no its illegal..but when i downloaded it i didnt get an iso file i got the games name and at the end iso.. but its an rar file but when i extract it i only get files called VIDEO_TS AUDIO_TS and $SYSTEMUPDATES please help me to figure out how to get the ISO. file

you highlight all of them then right click and hit "extract files" DONE!

cankarales> U cant xtract them like cyber... says. They are not compressed files. They r fragments of 1 file that hav been spilt in2 howeva many parts. e.g .wmv.001 - .wmv.005 = 5 parts of a windos media video file. U need 2 combine them using the free HJSplit program, which will create a new complete file, with the propa xtension. Then u will b able 2 play the original file and can delete the fragmented files.

u seem like a smart person....i got a movie in ISO form and i have MagicISo and i have a program to burn my movies to a DVD and watch them on my dvd player...and i was wondering how would i go about putting that iso movie onto a DVD to watch on my DVD player...could i just use Magic iSo and burn it to a disk or do i need to do anything special

I use dvd flick and that coverts the video file from avi or whatever to a dvd iso image then I use nero to burn an iso image to an actual dvd-r or rw and then pop in a player and enjoy.

Hi. Thanx 4 the assumption :op Anyway. Soz 4 the delay. Been away. But 2 answer ur q'tion. MagicISO can b used 2 burn ur movie ISO (or any ISO) 2 a DVD-R/RW (or CD-R/RW). Nuthin "special" or no 2nd program is needed. Jus make sure ur DVD player is R/RW capable (which most r) n it shud play with no probs. Enjoy!

not necessarily, ISO files can be used to make live disks, that's about it.

Are you sure you're not extracting them to a different file location and you just don't know the location? Make sure you check the file location that you are extracting to.

YES new Rar can open iso but the best way to open iso file is by DAEMON Tools its a software that make an other cd room drive in your computer u can open iso by DAEMON Tools Its easy and simple it also dont take any sapce when u open iso file enjoy

I found it! pcsx2 has a tool in the configuration botten (config configure cdvdrom linozaps iso...)i havn't tried it but it should work.

I need a help could someone help me out am kind of stranded. I have a very long rar file compressed into 12 parts. Now I don't know how to extract all the 12 parts into one single large file so I can burn into a CD-Rom. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Either highlight all the files, right click and select from the drop down menu whatever archiving software u have (like winrar or IZArc) and click "extract here"... or you right click the rar file that is .01... does this help?

rar sucks. It's closed, it's used by a lot of hackers to protect files on bittorrent, it's slow, it's buggy, lots of downloaded files consist of separate rar fragments that often don't reconstruct. Crap.

The "warez" scene was using PKZIP and ARJ for years before that. They only use it for it's ability to break up large files into smaller "volume" files. Which is still pointless with the advent of Bit Torrent.

You're sadly mistaken. PKZIP was an archive utility for DOS long before GUIs were made. Linux didn't exist yet (Unix did) OS X didn't exist either since it's based of BSD (unix) Macs back then were still running on 16-bit motorolla CPUs running an OS that loaded of ROM chips and didn't really have an official name.

PKZIP is a sort of spin-off of ARC which was one of the first data compression after ARC.

another thing that should be mentioned are programs that can burn ISO's aswell as programs that can mount them. If you're thinking of installing linux, and ISO burner would be useful
