The Krion Conquest, Ghost Lion, Arkista's Ring, Shadow of the Ninja (2nd Player), I might be leaving a few out but there are actually quite a few games with female characters. Oh yeah, The Little Mermaid, and I think they made a Barbie game, maybe Gauntlet had a chick in it. Yep, quite a few, now that I think about it.

and Stingray (Hot Flash, could be wrong about her name)

I first played this in early 1997 when my cousins gave their old NES to my grandmother, I don't know how well known this game was when it came out, but I don't think it was one of the more popular NES games.

I rented this game one weekend and got through it that weekend.  If you played TMNT II, it's very similar to that game.

@DickBigs My thoughts exactly, I remember playing this back in 1997, I don't think I'd played Double Dragon then, but now I have I see your point, I was just thinking about that a few minutes ago whilst watching a review of Double Dragon II for the PC Engine.

the 3rd stage boss was some purple bin laden guy who managed the maniacs, the 5th stage boss was the manager of the violators who looks like Rob Halford of Judas Priest
