Glenn is just incredible. He is one of a kind. It's interesting, this recording has the 2nd movement played more slowly than another recording on YouTube. I like it this way so much better.
Some pianists race through the third movement to show their prowess and technical brilliance. I think Gould, however, has selected the optimal tempo both to demonstrate the piece's relentlessness and the richness of the harmonies within. If it's played too fast we tend to lose the subtleties of the piano, especially the strong left hand that Gould is so good at. There is a confidence and assuredness to Gould's left hand that makes it easy to follow the line, that's where the harmonies are.
If a person is lucky - very lucky - they may hear one or two songs in their lifetime that resonate deep within their soul. This is one that will live with me until I die.
There has never been an equal to this man's performance, in my opinion. I've loved this 'version' for so long that it's ruined any of the others for me (delightedly so, for it's the utter beauty of it that captures). THANK YOU!!!! I hadn't heard this, my favourite 'version', in many many years. So much love your way for posting this masterpiece... x
this is the best interpretation of bach piano concerto no. 5, largo. Now I know why GG was, has been, is, will be the one of the greatest pianist. My heart is completely connected on this piece by him. With this connection I haven't had while I was listening to his Bach Goldberg Variations performance, all I can say is amen.
I am not a big GG fan, but this is very beautiful. For those who would like to hear another fabulous version, give Edwin Fisher a listen. Search Bach Piano Concerto No.5 in F minor, BWV1056 (2) in youtube.
Speechless GG is not from this world......he manage with his music and interpretation to reach deep in your soul, in places you know you have but no one dares to go.....
this is for sure not the matching video to the music. but anyways this recording of Bach's concerto in f minor is breathtaking and Glenn Gould is at his very best. PURE MAGIC!
Pure love. No ego. Pure music. Perfect. O goosebumps..

Sounds great but I prefer this be played in harpsichord, instead of a piano. It sounds more baroque.
