This is beautiful and Thom's voice seems to impossibly get even better with age; he's one of the greatest vocalists in the world, easily. However, I'm not sure if as a whole this song develops into something truly great. I believe "The Present Tense" is a masterpiece and I hope it makes it in the LP8 but this one? the ability to take TWO chords and loop his voice over it and make this MASTERPIECE is just incredible. For the bit of the "i've been told i should give up the ghost" fits in so perfectly. Towards the end of the song there were so many emotions being casted out at once i couldn't help but shed some tears of the effect this music has one me.

i think the boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred. a lot of radiohead's material starts with thom and i think at this point it's a matter of what "works" with the full band and whatever doesn't he keeps to himself. so i think you have to ask yourself "is this a song that could work with the full band?" in this particular case, i definitely think so - it's beautiful but raw. some accompaniment would serve it well. "lotus flower" on the other hand i think stands on its own.
