  • 0:14 - 0:16 Whats the song? :O

  • @MrRiiikard Fucking Hostile by Pantera, covered by In Flames =)

  • old one!!! in flames your old growling made you individuel !!! the new is like every other death metal band :(

  • New and Old.. Anders Friden is way fucking awesome.. the man has skills! \m/>_<\m/

  • new growls are more power full and the oscillation severe/acute are significantly the best

  • whats the song at 0:50 it sounds sick! please need to know =)

  • @shayan666 F(r)iend, off of Soundtrack To Your Escape. Yes, it's probably Anders best live performance ever in that song.

  • @Krofius too bad i like old in flames more...

but thanks i will give it a shot =)

  • @Krofius i prefer his high pitch "growls" :D

  • Old style...surely... that was their best work. In recent years they sound really fucking whiny. Reroute to Remain was when they changed from traditional metal to nu metal, and frankly, they don't do nu metal as well as, say, Soilwork. They're not bad, by any means, their new stuff just doesn't have any real power.

  • @ffsnametaken Neither In Flames or Soilwork is anywhere close to Nu-Metal, nor have they ever been. Pre reroute was ''traditional metal''? What the fuck is traditional metal? It was gothenburg/melodic death metal, rather, although you could call In Flames an very progressive band. Even R2R could classify as melodeath. There's always been elements of melodeath, in all the newer albums. Their new stuff not having any real power is just your opinion, though I'm sure many people do agree with it =)

  • crazy guy in white shirt at 0:39 hahaha

  • @d4rkd1sc1ple acually there is a white in flames shirt on the market ;)

  • @misterlampi lol he still looks crazy

  • @d4rkd1sc1ple agree xD

  • what song at 0:34?

  • @NoUsernameAssinged Behind Space, But I think that they perform the Behind Space '99 version when they play live.

  • New.

  • Anders Friden , my fucking god , new , old , the same = METAL!!!

  • I've never heard Anders utilising a really low death growl, btw on which albums did Anders FULLY uses his low death growls? the only album I know which he use low death growls was on The Jester Race album

  • @Primebot101 Well, back in the old days, aka TJR, he didn't have a technique even, he just screamed. I don't think he uses low death growls on TJR that much at all, more like medium pitch throughout the whole album. He goes way lower with his newer technique, like shown in this video. It's just two different techniques (Or well the ''old technique'' was never really a technique). But it's kinda hard to compare cause the growls sound so different, but I'm pretty sure his newer style goes lower.

  • @Krofius what In Flames songs was used for this video?

  • @Khalis33 In order, My Sweet Shadow, Fucking Hostile cover, In Search for I, Behind Space, In Search For I, F(r)iend, In Search For I, My Sweet Shadow, In Search For I, Dead God In Me, Watch Them Feed, Graveland, Dial 595-Escape, The Quiet Place, Take This Life, Disconnected, Drenched In Fear, March To The Shore, Disconnected, Condemned, Dead Eternity, The Jester Race, The Jester Race, The Hive, Worlds Within The Margin, Resin, Clad In Shadows, Scorn, Zombie Inc. Think that's 100% correct order.

  • @Primebot101 You know, he uses his death growls from time to time on the newer albums, it's just that they are low in the mix, and the high pitched scream is higher in the mix, just to make it sound ''demonic''. About him fully utilizing his low death-growl, in Resin he stays kinda low the whole song actually, and in the part ''Each day I crawl'' I cant imagine him going much deeper than that back in 99 at least. There is plenty of examples in ASOP for example just that they are lower in the mix

  • @Primebot101 Sorry for the long messages btw :P

If you want me to, I can give examples of all growls in all songs etc, I got a pretty good check on where and when they are and in which songs. But something I do know is that he utilizes his low death growls A LOT more live. In all the newer albums where they low growl is low in the mix, when he performs the song live he usually does the low death growl part then. Anyways, if you want some examples just tell me :)

  • @Primebot101 Watch this clip at 2:15, it's one of the lowest if not the lowest death growls Anders has ever done; youtube(.)com/watch?v=D7Z8vbf50hw

    remove the parenthesis.

  • @Krofius its just that most in flames studio albums that I have heard only shows that Anders uses screaming, Im quite surprised when I watched this video

  • @Primebot101 That's because as I said, in many parts in many songs (from R2R-ASOP) the low death growl is low in the mix, so you can barely hear it. When you listen to the songs many times as fuck you discover new things with the songs, new synth lines, a growl behind the scream etc, and that's what I fucking love about IF's music, I can listen to a song for 3 years, then suddenly I notice sampling or a synth line somewhere in the verse or a chorus..it's awesome.

  • @Primebot101 anders lowest growl was on Soundtrack to your escape. In particular the song F(r)iend

  • Anders > Lindberg > Stanne (:

  • @helpfuk I would have never agreed to that if I hadn't seen this video

  • hes obviously better at it now than he was then...its just a shame that he decided to stop using them for the most part.

  • The growls at Fr(i)end LIVE at Sticky Fingers is just sick <.< its a lil sad that their album songs doesnt contain anything like that anymore, cuz thats just... woahhhhhhh... orgasmic...

My profile if u love old In Flames :3 Highly Detailed info about each song

  • Colony had the best vocals imo. Even he says himself how it was hell on his throat cause of how he did it on that album.

  • Old growl suits much better on In Flames songs, but since the new growl is a proper death growl it is much more powerful and sounds better. Best for Anders would be using these two and forget the screaming because he is so much better on lows.

  • @TikuOrava I do agree. His lows is insane, both nowadays and in the old days. In albums there's only a few parts you get to hear it..And I don't understand why they overdub the low growl with a high pitched. You want to hear the low one the most, not high.

  • @Krofius Yeah, if there is a low growl the listener pretty much would want to hear it for a change. However, I think that this isn't In Flames' decision, more of the producers own decision. You know, high screams sound more human to majority of mainstream listeners than low death growls.

  • @TikuOrava Nah mate, haven't you seen the DVD from ASOP?

Anders records his owns vocals aswell. He has very much input on how he wants it to sound. You did hear his low wells in Disconnected in the breakdown part, and I want to hear more of that.

  • @Krofius Of course I have seen it. Do you mean the part "GO!, MARCH!" ? He does have very big input indeed but still these lows are mixed down on production. Better example in my opinion is in F(r)iend on the growl before the chorus, that is really damped and low volume.

  • @TikuOrava Yeah I know, I have been thinking about the same thing, I don't understand why the overdub with the high, instead of making the low the one you hear the most. When you do a low and a high at the same time it gives a kind of cool demonic sound, But I think he/they should have skipped it in F(r)iend and just having the low growl. It's the same thing in Take This Life after aprox 2min in the song when he says ''THESE THOUGHTS'', where the high is overdubbing the low.

  • @Krofius I agree. I don't like the overdubbing. Sure Anders' low growl doesn't compare to some other death metal vocalists (like George Fisher's), but they are still so good that deserve a place on the vocal track without dubbing. I noticed not, many songs have got very, very faint growls on back of the screams. Have you noticed, that on F(r)iend if you put low growls through the whole song and blast beats on verses and chorus, the song becomes suddenly very death metal -like ?

  • @TikuOrava Sorry, I've noticed, not I noticed not :P

  • @TikuOrava Well IMO I think Anders low deathgrowls is pretty sick (newer style)

I mean the best example is Friend from the live DVD. He has a unique voice I think.

And I agree on what you said with Friend. It's definitely the heaviest song on STYE

  • @Krofius Everyone has an unique voice on harsh vocals (well, except mallcore screamers, but let's not talk about these) It is kinda interesting that the screaming and the deep growls creates a some kind of harmony with every vocalist (because of the unique voices) You can clearly hear the similarity in Anders' lows and highs. IMO death growls are pretty easy to learn (except Vader style, now that growl is cryptic) but with screams (especially Stanne's)... I don't have any idea how to do those.

  • @TikuOrava Yeah, Stanne has a unique raspy growling style. Alexi Laiho also has a weird tone. Anders aswell

  • @zozozolt No problem :)

  • old growl rulz!!! ♪♫ xP
