Speaking of Mozart inspiring other composers, from 4:17 - 4:24 sounds incredibly similar to a section of the song "Scarified" by Paul Gilbert (a modern guitarist with classical influences). Perhaps Paul was intentionally quoting Mozart?
Anyone else notice that at 1:34 it sounds awfully too close to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture to be a coincidence? I wonder if Tchaikovsky got the theme from this, he LOVED Mozart, with good reason too.
@metallicragex The motif you're talking about in Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture is La Marseillaise, which is France's national anthem, which was inspired by this piece.
Listen carefully to 1:15, you'll notice that the 1st violins, 2nd violins, violas, basses and woodwinds are all playing different melodies. It is almost impossible for humans to concentrate on five different melodies at once. Mozart clearly was beyond human.
I've always thought that the three latest Mozart concertos (25-27) exceed the more famous 20-24, not sure I can give a musically theoretical explanation why, other than the simple fact that they sound better to my ear; more emotional, more elegiac, almost as though he sense his career was near its end.

Could you please make it all black? It would be much nicer.

I recall my astonishment at first hearing this piece - thinking I had already heard all the great piano concertos.

I think 20, 23 and 24 are much better than 25 and 26. Perhaps number 27 is at the same level.
sosamuera 2 years ago
What's your reasoning for this? I think all of those you mentioned plus 21 are at the highest level.
ceilingkatt 1 year ago
@sosamuera A matter of taste I suppose. I have a predilection for the opening movement of 27 myself.
