The Gravemind is smarter than you think, the reason that he doesn't want to activate the rings is because he acts like a God, yet he's so selfish he doesn't want to kill himself in the process of activation. Simple really when you think about it, if you know the basic story of Halo. :)

They were designed to kill the flood by wiping out their food source. gravemind, like the other flood, has the goal of consuming all sentient life in the universe, and that can't happen if the rings are activated. they stopped the flood before, except for some that were frozen for study that the covenant accidentally unleashed. thats all in the halo encyclopedia.

I totally disagree with you Pvt.Tucker. I have a Ps3, but I love Halo, and think it's gotten better with every release. And don't tell me I don't know Hallo since I don't have an Xbox, I have halo for Pc, I've played Halo 2, play Halo 3 frequently, and will soon play Halo 3: ODST soon. I am also hoping for an Xbox for X-mass. Not really sure why I said that last part, but I did. XD

Halo one had the best campaing and the multiplayer for 2 n 3 were pretty good. But Halo 3 just seemed to get old fast. The machinima clan I had back in H2 fell apart n I quit making movies. I love the halo universe, read every book. I was just dissapointed with the last campaing. I was expecting MC to really jump over 10 brutes kick their asses in at least one cutscene lol

The best halo cutscene is in halo wars, a game not made by bungie. How is it that in 3 games we dint see master chief do something cool? oh the reason why it sold so much is because of the cliffhanger in halo2. Im not saying I hate the game... I was just disapointed. Halo 1 is my fave game of all time.
