I see what Patrick is saying about the difficulties of modern theatre actors creating their own makeups for the characters. What's interesting was that during Shakespeare's time there were no costume, makeup, or set designers for the actors to work with....it was all imagination....and I also know that there were some famous stage/screen actors (specifically Lon Chaney Sr) who designed his own makeup for the characters he was playing which proved very effective!
It's got more yellow, because you need to be able to see all his expressions from as far as possible. Theater always has more dramatic make up to where if you saw it in person it would really look off-putting. It's so bold so more people can see him and his expressions/acting.
@animallover2047 Well actually, Rick Baker who did the makeup on the movie version said that the Grinch isn't just one green color, he also has purples and yellows as well, but I love Angelina Avallone's makeup design here....in fact I love all kinds of makeups!
I agree with roxynikko2. TOO MUCH YELLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Grinch was green not yellow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And gotta agree with ZcelGO, they NEED a face mold or something cause all that paint does make him look like a young cracked out Grinch.
That is stage make-up, designed to look a certain way not only under stage lights but also from a distance, I.E. the audience's perspective. It looks extreme up close, but on stage it works.
Did you tell that 2 roxynikko2 or ZcelGo as well, cause I was only agreeing with them. So I feel like I'm being singled out here when all I was doing was agreeing with 2 others. So try not single the 1 whose agreeing with others out only. I hate that when I agree with people and then someone else comes along and singles ME out only.
@sheldonman14 Well actually, in general stage makeup (with the exception of such shows as Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, and Shrek) has to be very simple so that the actor can easily pull it off at the end of the day and still have skin left
he's yellow because green doesnt look good under stage lights.. it hides the actors features... the yellow allows for a shade difference as well as facial features to show onstage
yes she is... but because wicked is so high in the rankings they have the money to use the lights to deal with her green skin... plus she gets air brushed green and doesnt rely on heavy creme foundation. the airbrush applies a thin green which doesnt MASK the actress' face. hope this clears up confusion
he is the best villian ever. patrick page has played the grinch, scar, and the green goblin. he is so amazing at this.

i think the yellow is to accent his face among all the green of his costume. when it's on a stage, it has to be kinda extreme.

Why the shit is his face yellow? The Grinch is green. They had one task, make the Grinch green, and they failed.
