My Spec Ops The Line story line prediction: U.S. Army Colonel John Konrad, founder member of Dela Force did not stay behind in Dubai to help protect the citizens that could not evacuate with the men under command. He stayed to avoid military discharge due to expiration of term of service or Reaching the maximum age limit. Konrad loathed his force retirement, he saw himself warrior, and believe he should die a warrior's death. Knowing that the army would send delta force, he saw his opportunity.

@LarryElliottBray it's a reference to Apocalypse Now which is essentially the story of Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Quite right, though...
