I don't think she's anywhere near as bad as some people are making out. That said I don't think she's particularly great, I'd say she's mainly famous for the looks. She is however better than some of the shitbag guitarists that are also famous for reasons other than discernible talent. I have to say though, there's nothing worse than a guitarist who has no clue about their gear/tone shaping. I HATE that!!! But again, that's not exclusive to her.

After reading the negative comments about this young lady I feel moved to say something. To play a guitar well you need to have an ear for music and it helps to be born with hands that are suitable and in any case start young to develop them. To play superbly you additionally need imagination and a shitload of practice. All the best practiced their a***s off and I have no doubt she is no exception. Go Orianthi.
There's so many female guitarist now with so much feeling and chops... that honestly this girl doesn't really compare.. wanna see a woman beat the snot of a fret board check out Lori Linstruth-guitar solo.. there are lots of others.. Trapped in the 80s? Born too late? Nothing against TC, love their stuff, but they do nothing for this artist in the second decade of the twenty-first millenium. She can sing, play, and look beautiful. Can she write? Can she find her own sound? For now, just a very talented novelty act. Maybe that's enough. What makes the difference between someone who plays really well (which there is many many who do) and someone like her is that she composes material and is versatile. If you can play van halen's eruption then your a good player if you can compose songs and leads and play them consistantly night after night then you deserve a break to get your music out there.. if you put the time in to get it out in the spotlight.
@DToneQuest I agree that if you compose quality music and work hard you deserve recognition, but when I hear parts of Sweet Child of Mine in an "original" solo, all credibility is lost. Also, when a guitar player can't tell you about their own effects and gear, that's just bad. Even if she didn't engineer her sound, she should know what goes into it.
@ShadowLancer128 if i remember correctly the majority of stock ibanez's have shit pups (except some with dimarzios) and basswood bodies. ive owned many ibanez guitars and can say that they sound really thin, but they FEEL AMAZING. a prs is deffinately going to sound alot thicker.
@jaretthale78 I have stock infinity pickups on my Ibanez S series, and the tone coming out of my S series has more girth than what is shown here. granted that certain ibanez models sound like shit, (xiphos, pgms, RG non prestige models, etc..) alot of them have a ton of bite to their sound.

I was just thinking about the FRM100 that was released this year, it sounds phenominal! That and the JS2400. The new JEMFP2 sounds great too i heard. The S prestige models usually sound great too.

BTW Eddie Van Halen did not play on Beat It was another female guitarist - Jennifer Batten, the person that lined her up for work with MJ.

Orianthi is in the music business. Emphasis on BUSINESS. She is trying to earn her living through her passion. How many of us are doing that? As with any product you push your strengths to promote it. Any male performer of greater or lesser ability would be doing the same.
I met Orianthi at a meet & greet at the PRS stand at Winter NAMM 2010. Her band was the headline act that night & she did her entire Believe album live. Live guitar & vocals, no backing tracks or teleprompters. Packed out

I don't think she's anywhere near as bad as some people are making out. That said I don't think she's particularly great, I'd say she's mainly famous for the looks. She is however better than some of the shitbag guitarists that are also famous for reasons other than discernible talent. I have to say though, there's nothing worse than a guitarist who has no clue about their gear/tone shaping. I HATE that!!! But again, that's not exclusive to her.

After reading the negative comments about this young lady I feel moved to say something. To play a guitar well you need to have an ear for music and it helps to be born with hands that are suitable and in any case start young to develop them. To play superbly you additionally need imagination and a shitload of practice. All the best practiced their a***s off and I have no doubt she is no exception. Go Orianthi.

I'm not so much dissing this as I am saying there's so many blazing female shredders these days, that its almost unimportant the gender anymore.. the novelty of it is fading fast.. Trapped in the 80s? Born too late? Nothing against TC, love their stuff, but they do nothing for this artist in the second decade of the twenty-first millenium. She can sing, play, and look beautiful. Can she write? Can she find her own sound? For now, just a very talented novelty act. Maybe that's enough. More than I've done, for sure, but I know my limitations. She hasn't found hers yet. Not sure why I care really, other than she seems very likable. Good luck, O.

To all the trolls complaining about her skill.. What makes the difference between someone who plays really well (which there is many many who do) and someone like her is that she composes material and is versatile. If you can play van halen's eruption then your a good player if you can compose songs and leads and play them consistantly night after night then you deserve a break to get your music out there.. if you put the time in to get it out in the spotlight.

Also, when a guitar player can't tell you about their own effects and gear, that's just bad. Even if she didn't engineer her sound, she should know what goes into it.

@ShadowLancer128 if i remember correctly the majority of stock ibanez's have shit pups (except some with dimarzios) and basswood bodies. ive owned many ibanez guitars and can say that they sound really thin, but they FEEL AMAZING. a prs is deffinately going to sound alot thicker.

@jaretthale78 I have stock infinity pickups on my Ibanez S series, and the tone coming out of my S series has more girth than what is shown here. granted that certain ibanez models sound like shit, (xiphos, pgms, RG non prestige models, etc..) alot of them have a ton of bite to their sound.

The RG is a tough guitar to get to sound great, unless you're steve vai.
I was just thinking about the FRM100 that was released this year, it sounds phenominal! That and the JS2400. The new JEMFP2 sounds great too i heard. The S prestige models usually sound great too.

such haters here. It may not be obvious from this video, but she does have talent. She beat every other guitarist in the competition at Clapton's Crossroad festival - no easy feat. BTW Eddie Van Halen did not play on Beat It was another female guitarist - Jennifer Batten, the person that lined her up for work with MJ.

It is difficult if not impossible not to like this young woman, Orianthi ... she is talented for sure.. I cannot help but remember though that it took her and another guitar player to duplicate what EDDIE VAN HALEN did on the Thriller album. I say the "This Is It" film more than once. A great group of musicans and dancers... But when it gets down to the nut cutting, there is no subsitute for that real Rock 'n Roll touch. She is still a woman.. She will never be a Van Halen...

I see her as a new artist earning her way and learning as she goes. If she stays at it she she will develop her own expression. It is a tough business but hard work pays off.
