  • I think there's more to controlling sexuality than simply creating guilt. Repressing healthy sexuality leads to frustration, and that frustration can then be redirected by the "leaders" in any direction they choose, the goal of which is usually repressing others, such as homosexuals, women, and children. It can even be used to incite violence towards the "other." In some cultures, men refrained from having sex before going into battle. Sexual frustration made them more fierce.

  • its not just that we all have sex and that is why they use this as a big guilt issue -its because of that stupid bible - i read the bible every day to remind myself of why i am an atheist but i am paraphrasing now- Genesis - God wipes out the whole civilization ( except Noah and his family and the 2 sets of animals) because HE does not like the way Man is finding Woman attractive...thats where the guilt about sex is founded...powerful people love to use guilt, right, Popey?!!!

  • lol

  • 11 people are in need of a proper virus scan!

  • @DarkLordBelegurth that would be implying that it was a part of one's DNA, when it is not and though STDs can pass to children from parents at birth, parents still have to directly interact with their kids to pass on their religion, that is not so with STDs so a different analogy is needed I agree but not hereditary

  • Skepticism is the most effective anti-viral medicine for god-disease.

  • Liberalism is cancer

  • Just Bough the book on Ebay, happy to see the seller is from austin and all profits go to charity for families

  • I want to be as happy as Darren Ray when I get

     older

  • Some forms of guilt depend on what religion because I was Jewish.

Because I never thought about guilt as anything relevant.

  • @MrJizzinator From a comparative religious perspective, Judaism only infects other Jews, whereas Christianity and Islam both seek to infect everyone.

  • I've already recovered. I just need to stop being as Conservative....and I'm doing so-so on that.

  • @MrJizzinator

Being conservative is fine, telling others to be conservatives is what makes conservatives look bad.

  • And no doubt the christians deliberately infected the Hawians with smallpox...

  • Real STD's are better than religious ones, atleast you get laid.......

  • I'm gonna have to get that book! :)

  • Unlike religion, STDs have been validated.

  • The only purpose of a virus is to replicate itself, regardless of the harm caused. Viruses aren't advanced enough to care whether or not the host is killed. A good parasite, on the other hand, will often go to great lengths to insure that the host does NOT die. Religion is more of a parasite than a virus, just like a tapeworm that feeds on its host indefinitely, often without the host's knowledge. God damn religion!

  • *puts hand into the cookie jar and grabs the cookie labeled : Knowledge *

  • I just had to laugh when the guy goes 'everybody has sex'.

Sure normally that wouldn't be a funny statement. But when you hear it on the internet, which is full of people who couldn't get laid if their life depended on it. Your nerdy lifelong virgin types, it just comes over as very amusing.

Not that all nerdy types are necessarily lifelong virgins. But there's all to many who are, and they congregate on the internet alright.

  • @babypinksmurf Well, that is debatable, if you talk to most Christians. I would love for most of them to say what you are saying, but I just don't hear it enough from Christians. Either way, though, it is arguable I think. Respect, anyway!

  • @babypinksmurf Millions of christians disagree with your statement that the bible isn't to be taken literally. And that is the problem.

  • LOL

  • In response to Martin's point about the orgy religions, anybody (religious or not) can enjoy sex. So nobody would bother with the religion. In contrast, sexual urges are so natural that only religion or something like it can make you feel guilty for having them.

  • 8 religulous people watched this

  • @preachersaredumb virus has spread it to 11

  • all the facts point to the fact that there is no god

  • @AtheistPhilosophy It's from atheist talk show, I wonder why is that. xD

  • I really would really liked to have had the author give a good reason for Martin's statement about the nature of the sex taboos being counter intuitive. He seemed to dodge it IMHO.

  • @daeamarth I don't think he did. Pleasure after sex is common, whether you consider it spiritual or not (religion is not a factor). Now, GUILT after sex is something only religion can infect you with, and has long-lasting consequences.

In a timescale, guilt > afterglow.

  • Religion is nothing more than a man made political system designed to brain wash from birth to ensure loyalty and obedience to "The" authority.

  • STD, easy as 123, ABC, STD and VD

  • Religion is a meme.

  • @pilotlicense fuuuuuu we got rickrolled hard

  • @pilotlicense see: Richard Dawkins

  • @pilotlicense So is atheism. Any 5 year old can point out the bullshit in religion but these dumbies aren't help at all. Instead of pointing out the obvious why don't they use some brain power and do something constructive with there lives if there so Interested in trying to find the real origins of the universe. Everyone just needs to admit that we don't know shit....

  • @JG129 ha true. Fuck religion!!!

  • I just wasn't impressed with this interview at all. The guy should have been able to explain why using guilt about sex leads to propagation of the religion. There's a lot to it.

  • @PrairiePie23 Look for Dr. Ray's youtube channel, he has a series of videos where he touches on topics from the book in more detail.

  • @typeNtardis Thank you, I will.

  • Fantastic! I'm going to have to pick up this text now, sounds like a solid read with some original and provocative thinking : )

  • I'm 15, and I consider myself Agnostic, if you're older then 35, and still believe in talking snakes and bushes you're a fucking idiot. Oh, and the bible contradicts itself on every page.

  • is this the George Soros fan site?

  • I just watched the Panorama documentary on Scientology and I definitely think It's an annoying genital rash.

  • I totally disagree with this!... Religion is not an STD... it's a CANCER.

  • An STD only transmitted by varren. Implications disturbing...

  • @SwineNahNah Actually, the Yanomamo are very religious.

  • @tempemonkey

Sure, but look for Pirahã tribe and the book "Don't Sleep There are Snakes".

  • @SwineNahNah I am not aware of those things... I will check out that tribe on wikipedia....

  • @lewisner it wasn't referring to the phsysical heart but the center of emotion and the source of all man's desires that is located right at the center of the chest. It's not a physical organ but the vessel of the ethereal spirit. The Indians would call it chakras. And yes not only God can read the hearts of people at least nowadays. Govt can too. And some say empats i.e those with the gift of feeling people's heart or emotion or intention.

  • @MichaelWithstand NONSENSE. Please tell me you don't work in the Neurology department in a hospital. Get help.

  • @lewisner It's not nonsense. You just aren't in a position that's ready to accept what I just told you.

  • @MichaelWithstand " It's not nonsense. You just aren't in a position that's ready to accept what I just told you."

What you mean living in a fantasy world of fairies, spirits and unicorns? I suppose not.

  • @216trixie So you claimed to know God? Or is that just your belief? Since I know God I can tell your belief on God is wrong.

  • @MichaelWithstand I 'knew God". At least the Bible god. Very well, for many years. I'm sure you, like me then, see anyone with a different, or non-belief in god as wrong, because you "know him." I thought my experiences were real, and connected to this god too. Just like you, and many others. But I was wrong. Deluded. I've been free of these delusions for twenty years now. It's much better over here. Sorry.

  • @216trixie ummm . . . . . interesting . . . . .

  • This is a repost. Good show, but too bad the Atheistexperience doesn't really post much new material.

  • Hmmm, 'set of instructions' sounds pretty much like IT.But, you know, any system can be used to execute so called 'undocumented functions' (hacked that is). 8D

BTW, what if pope says there is no God? Pope is inerrant! But there is a pope and church to serve to God, so if there is no God, pop's inerrancy is busted, pope is wrong and there could be a God, but if there is God and his church is the true one, then pope is right and... (infinite cycle).

  • I think the sex thing onto the propagating the religion, but because you restrict sex, this means others have more opportunity against it.

  • "Because it works" that is no explanation. His explanations are proximate.

  • I agree that religion is nonsense but his diagnosis sounds very superficial.

  • @proceo12 According to Genesis 4 and 5, Adam and Eve also had a third son, Seth, and then other sons and daughters. So, if we are to take the bible as literal, and believe it to be true (which I don't, but I'll suspend disbelief for the sake of argument here), then there must have been in-breeding or incest in the Adam family line. How else can population expansion be explained--and this may also account for evolutionary beliefs as well. It's a curious thought. And one that'll anger theists!

  • @bartonim If you breed enough the defects in genes caused by inbreeding can be naturally selected out. This is how lab rats are able to breed as brother and sister over and over. Their defects are already bred out in only a few generations. However, the problem we have here is our defects are not bred out. If that story were true we would be able to inbreed like wow!

  • @SongsofFallenHeroes Good points. I suppose I want to challenge theists to at least acknowledge the possibility of incest as a means to procreate. It's possible even in the evolutionary sense too, I suppose, but I can't comment thoroughly enough on either to look like I know exactly what I'm talking about. Ha! Anyway, thanks for the comment!

  • @bartonim but Darwinism and evolution also means there was inbreeding and incest.

SO SORT THAT ONE OUT YOU ATHEIST BASTARD!!

  • @ufewl

Just the opposite. The members of species that interbred had increased chances of offspring being affected by recessive or deleterious traits. This generally leads to a decreased fitness of a population, which is called inbreeding depression. Thus, those members of a specific species would die out.

Anyway, I thought Christianity preached tolerance. Apparently not in your case.

  • @ufewl What is your problem?! You can't even have a civil discussion without resorting to insults. You can call me all that you want, because I'm thick-skinned enough to take it, but you obviously cannot handle another point of view. It leads you to hurling playground insults. Pathetic.

  • @bartonim I have similar ideals to you, and I'm not the theist sitting here trying to prove you wrong but this is just what Ive heard literal theists say to refute this. "Because Adam, Eve and their children were so close to creation and the hand of God, they were too pure to be effected by inbreeding"

  • @CreatorJABM That's an interesting argument. It is rare for theists to discuss the possibility of incest if we believe the creation theory, so at least some of them are. I don't know if the pure argument holds water, but it's a nice try on the part of literal theists!

  • @CreatorJABM A lovely argument lol. But then they would have to explain how their incestuous breeding would be anything but pure. Sadly we know that with such a small gene pool the society they produced would not have survived.

  • @bartonim - Well, since that handful of people do not constitute a sufficient genetic base for the survival of humans, since replicative failure and sterility would wipe it out in three generations, I guess it's bullshit :)

  • @bartonim ALTERNATIVELY. With such a small genetic pool the line wouldn't have lasted the 6-10,000 years the bible expects us to believe.

  • @bartonim They were not the only people in the world, moron, there were at least those in the land of Nun. Read your Bible.

  • @salahhe I'm happy to discuss issues aplenty with you, as soon as you stop being a blubbering child with your stupid insults. I know my Bible better than you, I suspect. Most atheists do over theists. Now grow up when you're ready for a disciplined discussion.

  • @bartonim I take back the "moron" part. So, what about the Nun guys? Because that is where the murderous son went to live and get married right after killing his brother. That meaning that the only people created by Yahve were adam, eve and their one son.

  • @bartonim Either the bible doesn't mention God creating other people the same way as teh first two (wich i find unlikely) or the guys in Nun were normal people evolved from apes. The only incest in the Bible remains that folloing the global flood where the Bible stated undoubtedly that there were no other people alive on earth that the 8 from Noah's familly. (annoying enaugh for teists?)

  • @bartonim "Where did the other people come from?" is valid question, however if one looks at Abrahamic religions closely, and all the texts omitted from their respective holy literature, you could argue that God didn't create the world and universe, but instead created the world and then a "Chosen People", in each case. The "other people" came from the "unchosen", heathens and political enemies. That's why God has a blood thirsty history - he is allowed to destroy the Unchosen.

  • @UberNoodleX You're probably the least stupid person on this page bro

  • @bartonim Well for the sake of argument, There is the land of nod wherein other humans exist(and cain found his wife). I would guess that there are other places where their children can go to meet other non related singles. I am an anti theist btw, I'm just introducing a counter argument for the sake of it.

  • @bartonim

    Evolutionary? how...

  • 3 religious people watched this!

  • @wickedman6 So he acknowledged what he was saying was bad! Ha! He just handed down his own sentence of guilt. I choose virus for creationists. I wouldn't say all are insane, although many certainly are close to it. Monsters--well, again, perhaps some. The ones who bugger boys and then have their supreme leader cover it up certainly are!

  • I agree 100% that religion is a disease. The cure is better education of that fact that the world is full of different beliefs, and science is the controlling force behind life.

  • Man, Matt mentions guilt in religion. Anyone who has yet to see Jesus Camp must see it now. Talk about how guilt is used on those kids at that camp! The shock is worth the sacrifice when viewing it--very telling about guilt in religion!

  • Matt has become the supreme being, the one true god, JAMBI

"Mecca lecca hi, mecca hiney ho"

  • What a about budhism? Its a religion based in your own ideas and thoughts! If it doen't sound correct to you, its not true!

  • GOD, IS SANTA CLAUS FOR GROWN UPS.....

  • "with sex as their tool"--no pun intended

  • "No sex without condoms" is a clever meme, for obvious reasons.

  • @AmericanNohbuddy Can you suck mah dick?

  • reason why its more effective to make something popular bad is it gives people a sense of accomplishment; they feel disciplined, noble, exceptional. people like to be challenged.

  • yep religions hijack some psychological state their is a documentary her in you tube go see it, it is very interesting

  • The Catholic religion goes even further with the guilt factor, by both proclaiming it wrong to have sex(everybody does)and proclaiming it wrong to be conceived by sexual reproduction(everyone are)with their ever popular original sin , thus making people feel guilty about how they came to exist, something they have no control over and can't be done any other way, and even if it can be done another way they would still say it was wrong cause they want people to feel guilty and stay with them.

  • Religion is a virus that targets the young and the desperate. It is quite malevolent in that sense.

  • So what does the leftist elitist dogma do with guilt? Would that be:

You're evil if you don't pay carbon taxes and you re going to kill the earth!

    Yeah GUILT!

  • @batfly STFU

  • @batfly We among the so-called leftist elite (I love how that lie has been bandied about for so long) don't fall into that childish trap of no grey areas--good and evil, right and wrong. That's for the religious right to play with. But if we must say, you are a pretty awful person if you don't give a crap about the environment. Nobody said anything about guilt; that's for you to deal with.

  • @bartonim

I just find it amusing and hypocritical... guilt is used by everyone not just religious zealots.

Atheistic Zionist mothers are notorious for using guilt to manipulate their victims.

I'm not defending Christians either. I don't believe in any religion...

I am a sort of Zen pantheist maybe? not really sure what label to brand myself with. Which means my tracking / targeting system / mechanism is hopelessly FUBAR.

  • isn't this old? Thought i watched this one before

  • @OpRedDawn This is just a different clip of a previously posted segment.

  • the name of this video should be changed, because if religion is called an STD it would imply that all people in the world of every religion are actively invold in incest. it is a very unfair and malicious accusation.

  • @pruntyc01 Who said anything about incest? Although if you believe in the bible, Adam and Eve and their children being the first human beings, there had to have been incest for the population to grow, right? It only makes sense.

  • @bartonim STD stands Sexually Transmited Disease, if religion is a STD passed on to us from our parents an act of sexual intercourse would have to happen, impling incest. Im not a christian i don't care less what the bible says. You however are an idiot for not working out that the phrase "Religion is a STD we get it from our parents" implys incest.

  • @pruntyc01 Herpes is an STD that you get if your mom is expressing it while you're born. HIV and AIDS you get from your parents if they have it. They're called STDs still, but you don't absolutely have to get them sexually. The list goes on for a long time, if you get an STD as a child you probably got it from your parents when you were born (if your mom births you vaginally.) Furthermore, viruses live in your blood. This means if there is any transfer of fluids you would get them too.

  • @pruntyc01 So, in fact, if you add the word "child" when talking about STDs then it is commonplace to assume that they have it because their parents do and it was passed on to them. Don't call someone an idiot because you seem to misunderstand STDs and viruses in general.

  • @freakonthadrums214 AIDS and HIV are known as STD's beacause they are transfered primary though sexual intercourse, Listing 2 STD's that can be caught by other less likely means does not invaildate the point about the implication of incest, If something is primaty passed on from parent to child it is most commenly known as hereditory, if that was said in the video title there would be no implication of incest.

  • @pruntyc01 The term STD does imply incest. When they say the words "you get it from your parents," they are now implying a disease that is hereditary. All I'm saying is that it is far from uncommon for parents to pass on STDs that they have to their children during childbirth, and that it is stupid for you to call somebody idiotic for making this connection that you couldn't (can't) seem to make.

  • @pruntyc01 Herpes, for example. Very common STD. It's also very common for the mother to pass this on to her child during childbirth if she has the birth vaginally, even if she isn't expressing it at the time. In this case, the child has gotten an STD from his/her mother without having sex with her. This is a very common occurrence, and is far from isolated. They are not wrong to say that you can get STDs from your parents, because it's easy for it to happen during the birthing process.

  • @freakonthadrums214 Acually it is very rare for it to be passed on from mother to baby, the affects of transmission also vary depending on the period at which it is contracted. In the first 3 months it can cause a miscarrige, towards the end it may cause a premature birth. Most of time when the mother has herpes the baby is generally healthy.

  • @pruntyc01 Here we go again: 'You a an idiot/fag/(insert favourite insult here)' If you followed my earlier comments you would have noticed that I actually challenged someone who suggested incest was implied in the video. My commentary was about the bible and how, if we follow the Adam and Eve myth, then we must believe incest occurred. I worked it out perfectly; you jumped the gun. Follow the thread and you'll get my drift. Oh, and make the Internet a nicer place without the childish insults.

  • @bartonim calling you idiotic is no where near as insulting and childish as i can and have been to other posters in the past. As i said i really don't care about the bible. The only part of your first reply to me i cared about was "Who said anything about incest", then you started on about adam and eve.

  • @pruntyc01 you got it wrong, it is not incest, religion fucks us therefor..

  • If religion is a Sexually transmitted disease and you get it from your parents ... does that mean Theists are incestually raped. I understand the Christians and Muslims because one has priests who rape you and the other was founded by a pedophile but it can't be all religions ... oh wait it can because they all use fear to get what they want.

  • @HAPrime Does a mother rape her baby when it is born with aids?

  • Flirt to convert!

  • Ah I remember this guy. They had him on before.

  • Last few seconds were hilarious. lol

  • I was drinking and socializing with friends on christmas, and one of my religious friends asked, " Isn't bad how we're all over here hanging out on christmas day?"

He felt guilty to hang out and drink with friends because it was christmas. We had ate dinner with our familys before that too, I don't even know how you could feel guilty about that

  • First food then sex then thoughts.

  • @Shalek You forgot beer.

  • Anyone care if I try to coin a word?

Gene is to Meme as Virus is to Mirus, a Mind-Virus. We've had a word for ideas that spread like genes (memes) for decades now; we need a word for ideas that spread like viruses. *tries to get Dawkins to answer his phone...*

  • Was this episode recorded in the future (February 2010)? lol

  • @fudgeman362 That would be the past, since we are already on december 2010.

  • @fudgeman362 Fail lol

  • @fudgeman362 Are you a time traveller from the past?

  • @fudgeman362 huh?

  • @fudgeman362 huh? are you from the past?

  • Religion is an STD - Sick & Twisted Delusion.

  • Just watched this whole one the other day.

  • just finish reading virus of the mind and i think that this book will be a good follow up

  • Where can I sign up for this sex religion?

  • The guy chiming in at the end about having a sex religion is totally a virgin.

  • @dnallred just as you are...

  • Keep in mind, Psychologist needs doctors for their head too, lol

  • Dawkins and Harris likened religion to memes (mental viruses) years ago, and far more eloquently. This is not a new analogy. However, it remains highly plausible.

  • Lucky Jews >.>

(Sodomy is ok in jewish religion)

  • @this1blackguy how so?

  • A must read!

  • Charlie Rose show @ 2:10

ALSO, no one knew about STD's until the last 50 years. Sex religions kill themselves off in earlier histories and guilty churchers live longer lives focused around having 6 or more children. It makes great sense that the people that survived were the God virus people.

  • Religion is an STD, both are acquired through being in close proximity to a priest.

  • shame that the video title is chosen from the most stupidest statement of the show

  • Abrahamic Religion is all about instilling that guilt by any means possible. Even for one who is a veritable saint and who always does good, They're still a dirty lawbreaking sinner somehow, because Adam's sin of being created ignorant and foolish.

All of humanity throughout time is infinitely slapped because Adam put his hand in the cookie jar?!

  • @L00NGB00W Well, Eve first, right? And of course it had to be the woman who leads the man to sin. Typical sexist rubbish, obviously. If I believed any of it, I'd at least ask myself, in such a sexist religion, why was the man not able to control 'his woman'? I mean, the religious zealots tell us man must control women, and then women get the blame for everything, even though the man couldn't stop her from supposedly sinning. It all makes my head hurt, how stupid it is!

  • @bartonim Supposedly, from what I was taught, the reason they emphasize that men control women is BECAUSE, they are more likely to sin and more likely to drag men into sin. So, the religion teaches the men to work that much harder to keep that from happening. Misogyny through and through.

  • @bartonim According to their mode of thinking, women NEED men to guide them and take responsibility for maintaining moral fortitude cos those poor women are so morally weak they will naturally sin and drag men along with them if men do not step up and control them. It really is disgustingly patronizing.

  • @bartonim

Indeed, there's loads of sexism in the Bible.

  • he has an obnoxious laugh.

  • Definitely going to be buying this book.

  • awesome

    much love from Brazil

    keep up the good work

  • Isn't it interesting that religion constanly hammers against sex / prostitution etc when there was a special on T.V. taking about the 2 Mary's . They are now saying that Mary might have been a prostitute . Funny or what ?

  • The problem with the sex religion would be that there would be no religion, just orgies.

  • @AllAtheism The cult of Dionysus was just orgies. So, yeah.

  • I support the Atheist Experience and their non-theistic hosts, and I recognize Darrel is probably trying to create some sort of analogy for religion as a "virus." Let's not confuse the already scientifically ignorant populace by throwing around analogies that religion is a "virus". Maybe in a metaphorical sense it is, but in reality it is not. Religions are divisive, harmful, and ignorance based. They are not a virus, in the biological sense, though. I would explain more, but no more space!

  • Now we just sit back and watch as Christians try to say "Atheists don't believe God just so they can have sex all the time and get abortions later!" and "Atheists only believe in homosexuality so they have more people to have sex with!" lololol i can see it already.

  • I love when the mouse is hovering arond in the background around 07:25 -07:27 <3.

  • Religion is sexually transmitted? O.o

  • I know a guy who became a christian because his girlfriend was a Christian. He always called himself an Atheist but he was just an Alcoholic who didn't know about either side of the argument and he was an asshole. She used her pussy to make him go to church with her and she brainwashed him into believing that he was bad because he wasn't religious... really weird because he totally disconnected from everyone deleted his facebook and shut off his phone.

  • @GodKillerAtheist haha nothing new, muslim women use their vagina all the time.

  • I caught religion once, but I got rid of it with a fine tooth comb and some reason brand shampoo.

  • Agreed... religion is an STD. ;O)

    Katalyzt

  • very nice

  • Annoying tense laughter.

  • Moohammad is giving me a telepathic message..you are.. the 301st viewer! PRAISE MOOHAMMAD!
