All music is open to interpretation, but I don't think we should assume things about the real story just from the genders in the lyrics. It sounds like she took her ex-boyfriend's perspective and used it to create a female character who had the same experience, who is in the song.
She did a similar thing in 'Caught In The Crowd'; apparently 'James' was really Kate and the narrator was someone she knew.
My sister was going to go to see her play with Ben Folds with her boyfriend but she couldn't go that day.. He still went though. This isn't my taste of music (at all) but I still like this song and there's no denying how awesome her voice is.
and I think she just gave up thinking of an adjective for the last line so she just said "you fucking fucking fuck" lol
i was sent this vid by a scorned woman i met on FB, false photo and very heavy, so now me being honest from the start i am the rotton one as i will not take her calls.
How do you know it was the other way round? And she tried to add him? I reckon the dude must be feeling pretty stink after her hit song! Girl power! Loving you Katie, keep singing for us girls.
Fantastic artist and another great song from KMH. Kate was interviewed on Brisbane Radio (her home town) and said she was the one who sent the friend request to an ex. The song was written from his perspective of having recieved the request.
Did you read what he just said? She said it in a radio interview. I'm sorry not every situation works out the way you like it; making men seem like the bad guys, haha, but if you're an ignorant bitchy neo-feminist than that's going to happen. A lot.
Equality power!
BTW, technically she's not singing for "you girls." Think about it as long as you like until it clicks.
'i dont want u poking me......again' LMAO

@thecapricorn94 You're right. It's just something in the voice

It is not written from the guy's perspective to her. I mean, one of the lines is calling him a "nasty, nasty man".

i was just listening to it last night, and heard that "nasty, nasty man" and was like... "wait... what!?"
but yeah! maybe i'll change the vid info, hahaha.

The song was actually inspired by her trying to add her ex-boyfriend. He didn't accept the add. (not the other way around)

It doesn't sound that way. There's a bunch of times that it sounds the other way around.
