  • what did he glue that hat on with?!

  • We keep letting in these foreigners who have no respect for us and don't care about the blood we carry from the very men who built all the great things in Britain!

    Hail to Fred!

  • @Killyaselfdie: I'm an czech student and I was working in Bolton in 2008 for three months during the summer (right after his statue was unveiled). So I was sort of the foreigner you speak of. But the reason why I was there is that I really love Britain for it's history, humour, culture and the spirite of people. So please don't judge a book by its cover, there are foreigners with respect for your country and some of them may know even more about its history than many natives.

  • Legend!

  • I'm from Blackpool! Bet Fred was thinking "You call this thing tall?"

  • All we've got on tele these days is snobby middle-class types who look down on places like Blackpool. I couldn't care less what people say, I love the place.

  • How does an old man survive that!? If I out MY granddad on he'd have a heart attack

  • Miss Fred.:( he was a ledgend, i went on this ride,, BRILLITANT

  • how the hell did his hat stay on

  • rofl Polly somit or other, classic.

  • Such a great character, loved all his programmes, such a loss.

  • Im going on this soon:D

  • I went to his house with my family when I was younger. He showed us around his workshop/yard and I had ribena in his kitchen lol.

  • RIP fred

  • at 3:24 did he say the engineers walk the track???????????? 4 words for that THE FUCKING CRAZY BASTARDS!!!!

  • @DannyladMCFC Yeh they must have to do that every day to check all the fittings are correct so there are no accidents.

  • @DannyladMCFC Yeah he did say they walk the track every day. They probably wear safety harnesses whereas Fred would have just stood at the top of the ride and lit a fag!

  • rip fred

  • he isnt even scared

  • top man and top ridee:D(ru)

  • top man rip

  • Legend

  • THAT CAP WILL BE PRICELESS!!

  • kingda ka, top thrill dragster and goliath r all bigger than this, but not better!

  • Its so funny when Freds cap blows off at the end.

  • You can tell fred wore is cap all the time.

top of his head is totally white//

    looked funny

  • I think "tallest" and "fastest" are overrated anyway.

I've driven at 100 miles an hour down an empty motorway 1500 ft above sea level, I don't come out of the car with brown pants

Nothing can replace getting to the top of the Pepsi Max and seeing the whole of the Irish Sea in front of you (and when you're up there, the wind makes you feel the whole thing is going to collapse!)

  • this truly is an awesome ride! this and irn bru revolution are my faves!

  • omg the best ride ever :D

    i love blackpool

  • @XelegancegirlX marry me

  • ive spent my time at blackpool over the weekend. I did enjoy it actualy

  • its the biggest ride in the united kindom

  • No thats Katie Price...

  • for those that cant stop complaining about that pepsi max isnt the talles in the world, this program was made when the pepsi max was the tallest, even the pleasure beach logo is diffrent on the front carrage to prove it.

  • Comment removed

  • remember this is a very old video, WAKE THE FUCK UP!

  • Comment removed

  • You are correct there are several in America that are now taller than the Pepsi Max but it remains the tallest rollercoaster in Europe.

  • how did his hat not blow off, good old fred!!

  • it did! watch the video!

  • he takes it off

  • You can see the top of the Pepsi Max from my house :)

  • Seriously :O

do you live in blackpool then

  • Yes I do, it's quite a popular landmark :)

  • anyone ever see the episode where fred east chips in a pub, one of the most disgusting things i ever seen.

  • fred was a great character, warm personality, sadly missed, there is no one like him on tv today

  • R.I.P Fred.

  • nah fuck that lol

  • i went on that its ace but the best ones infusion next to the big one the infusions even more ace :D

  • infusion and pepsi max, are my fave rides at blackpool.

  • I went on that....

  • 0:47 you realise "theres no going back now ... SHIIIIT HELLPP!!!"

  • whho coasters do the best burgers!!

  • im from blackpool :P

  • gets his hat back as well lol legend

  • When I went on the ride I couldn't stop laughing cos my mate was shitting himself.

  • 'We'll hold the record for a while' - For a year! lol

  • lol 235ft and 85 mph...typical blackpool bullshit its 213ft tall and goes 74mph f it went 85 then it would still be the fastest ride in europe

  • Love the pleasure beach, but if I went on the Max they would have to close it for half a day to clean up the mess! I'll stick to Alice in Wonderland. I know! I am a pussy. Best I ever did was Valhalla, but sat on my glasses and broke them. :0(

  • Jesus christ...I went on this ride. The view is awesome/scary and then the drop is wicked. When the coaster tilts slightly i honestly felt like i was gonna fall. I went on it 5 times =D. Closed my eyes for the whole ride the first 2 and was brave enough to keep them open for the last 3. Tallest, fastest coaster in europe =D

  • Uh, no. Silverstar at Europa park is 239 feet high, and Stealth at Thorpe Park is 82 mph.

  • This programme is from the year 2000. You're commenting nearly a decade after the film was made!

  • I was commenting on Paulthemoron's comment from 2008. Silverstar was opened in 2002(or '03) & Stealth opened in 2006.

  • Oops, sorry mate. Should've checked the thread. And you were right of course!

  • shut up lool dont ruin the illusion :) i wanna go on the ride you on about :) :) :)

  • What are you talking about? Facts are facts, & a lack of records doesn't take away from the ride experience.

  • i know i know to me pepsi max is big tho :) im only jk

  • he were a good lad, not yorkshire, but no ones perfect!

  • I loved the Big One! Awesome ride, shit scary tho!

  • must of been before they had it renforced, its shit now, you dont get that vertical drop

  • rainxxxx your very wrong the drop has allready been allterd in this video and the reason was to make the ride faster thus better not worse the turnaround above the grand national was also changed to give the ride more speed so this video is post 1996 when the changes where made and i would just like to add the big one has been flying this year they changed the tyre compound and its as quick and as gd as ever!

  • it was not to make the ride faster, it was to make it safer, the grand national needed a change anyway before the thing was gonna fall to bits.

  • this to was a reason for reprofiling the first drop and nash turnaround as people in the back of the cars were getting whiplash and the grand national was not changed for the constrution of the pmbo the season the footers went in for the turnaround over the nash station they revamped the nash station to how it was when it was first built mate

  • thats what i just said, saftey for the big one and a revamp for the grand national.

  • What a legend- this man is my hero. He is liked and loved by all. Must be the only man to attempt to keep his flat-cap on! RIP Fred- this country misses eccentric Brits such as yourself

  • great video wouldnt believe he would do this.

  • must admit it was quite funny

  • śmigałem na tej kolejce. ostra jazzzzda!!!!

  • I shit myself on that...it goes so fast that your head is sore afterwords.

  • Aye, but fred doesn't even flinch. Even gives some recommendations for improvements on the way! :)

  • He looks like Jack Duckworth at the start!!

  • oooh man im goin der 4 ma enfd of year trip n i avnt bin in like 10 years so i av neva bin on da big one n i was gonna on it but seeing this made me think it doesnt luk very surcure i might fall owt of it oh no

  • What a guy Fred was! i won't even go on the pepsi max but i think i might now Fred has done it. He was really brave! R.I.P Fred.

  • I miss Fred. :(

Can anyone tell me what year this was recorded in? :)

  • this man was-is a legend,as davecw says a true english man,its the greatest shame our country lost this man! there aint many left like him, as he so rightly said; "The modern world stinks." and

"We've become a nation of con men, living by selling double glazing to each other." RIP fred we miss ya!

  • hats off to u fred.....oh wait he lost his :P

  • is he dead?

  • yes sadly, RIP Fred

  • Brilliant

  • God bless you Fred

you were a true Englishman, a man dedicated in our british heritage, culture, achievements and our past history working enviroument.

  • Davecw1953,I'm with you 100% there mate.

  • DID YOU LIKE THAT FRED?

  • A legend.

  • A good ribe but it's only europes tallest coaster

  • no it is not. it is europes 2nd tallest. it was the tallest until 2002 when silver star was built at europa park in germany. the pleasure beach still advertise it wrong

  • ye bpb add sea level so they can make it look higher

  • yeah maybe ppb do but its still not higher than ss.

  • realy?

  • Yes because from the ground PMBO measures at about 213ft. The fact that according to PBB it is 235 doesn't mean a thing. Nemesis is miles above sea level but that doesn't make it 10miles high does it. PBB are notorious liars when it comes to advertising campains. They said Infusion was the tallest SLC in the world when JO at Fantasy Island is nearly 2x the size.

  • well you should of realised when infusion was the traumatizer at southport

  • top man i live near him . rip

  • you live in a grave yard?

im only kidding, he was cool. i just couldnt leave that one lying open there

  • lol thanks

  • A man born 50 years to late brilliant

  • Fred was one of a kind, showed the world that the North could produce talanted educated ambassadors, that people could understand. He never tried to bamboozle us with technical terms, Fred told it how it was in an entertaining informative manner. Sadly Missed.

  • R.I.P Fred.

  • When it was built in 1994 it was the tallest, fastest coaster in the world at 235 ft thats 26 ft higher than desperado, an amazing ride, went on it for the first time yesterday, lovin it

  • Desperado is taller.

  • love it when his cap flys off! lol

"I should have rivitted it on!" lol

happy memories of a great man... R.I.P

  • Fred is still alive!!! =G4UNB

  • BPB is rumour central at the moment: Stand ups, drop towers, launch coasters - You name it they're getting it . PMBO was called the tallest in the world for publicity reasons but it was still a good bit of engineering, even in reality.

  • i love the way he's just totally chillin out.

"might see me breakfast" lmao legend

  • Thanks for posting. Going to Blackpool on Weds so good to know it gets smoother later in the day.

    Cant wait.

  • what kind of seatbelts do you have on it?

  • you have a seatbelt then a lap bar of your own.

  • ok...thanks thats alot off my chest lol!

  • lol s'ok.

  • What a legend.

    Poor bloke, dying too young.

  • if he can climb a massive chimney with no supports then the pepsi max is a doddle to this bloke

  • That were, y'know, great! I would have liked to, y'know seen the wole programme, y'know.

  • Fred, we love you buddy! Nobody like you mate!

  • That was just amazing. He went on the pepsi max 3 times, respect to that man pure genius.

  • Hope he got his cap back afterwards! Very amusing and poigniant stuff there. Fred Dibnah R.I.P

  • "did you like that" there will never be another one like our fred.

  • great to see Fred - so said t

    Great to see F

Great to see Fred such a brilliant guy and so sad he's not with us anymore. He had such a great way of explaining everything.

  • When that program was made it WAS the ibggest in the world, now it's the biggest in Europe after Kingda Ka took it's crown

  • Its never been the tallest in the world,Desperado was at 209ft.

  • Actually, it was for a week then it got that title knocked off by Kingda Ka - As I previously said

  • Pepsi max was built in 1993 and opened in 1994,I live in Blackpool,Kingda ka was built in 2004,opened to the pupblic in 2005.Top thrill dragster and millenium force would have taken the big one crowns first.

  • I'm just going off the world stats for rollercoasters for that time - I'm not lying, I worked for BPB

  • I did hear a rumour that there will be a new rollercoaster for Blackpool similar to Kingda ka.I have ridden Kingda ka and it is amazing.

  • Got more bottle than me, Fred! I wouldnt go on that even now! Let alone twice!

  • ive been on that twice allways been the best thing about visiting grand parents up in blackpool, had no idea it was the biggest in the world though, awesome!

  • Fred Dibnah was an absolute legend. He was always a real pleasure to watch on TV - RIP Fred!

  • fred was a delight to watch he brought joy to millions. miss you fred thanks for the memories.

  • He was a top bloke & funny with it....will be missed R.I.P

  • I think the mickey takes of Fred on here are awful. He never did anything wrong to anyone at all. The best man you could wish to meet. I know his wife Sheila very well. I think he was the greatest man ever, he is my hero and I look up to him loads. RIP Fred, and God bless mate.

    James

  • Top man fred, just read his biography, any chance of you posting some more Dibnah clips?

  • Fred was my all time favourite hero, I miss him so much, he was speaking one night at Leeds university but tickets sold out so I never got to meet him.

I watch him whenever I can on UKTV History, he inspires me every single time, his direct looks to camera and his uncompromising Bolton accent, he was the man :)

  • Top bloke.

  • Fred Dibnah took what often were complex subjects and conveyed the in such a way that everyone could share in his great enthusiasm. Truly one of the best broadcasters I have ever seen and one of the very few people in the celebrity bracked whose death genuinely upset me.

    RIP Fred.

  • Yes Shuggy, you got it 100% RIGHT. All you say I wish that I had said....and as you say----R.I.P Mr D. and full respects to your memory .I dont think he is replacable . Bye Shuggy,

  • Fred gave me much pleasure..I'm a cockney, but I love that Yorshire accent, mind you,Yorshire to me is TOP PLACE::: If ever I go back to dear England,I'll live in YORKSHIRE and be very proud..White Rose Country!

  • Fred Dibnah was from Bolton, which is in LANCASHIRE.

  • I beg your pardon..I got it wrong! But I know that Fred did much work in Yorks..Typical Londoner. I'll do pennence to Lady Gracie Fields and Lord Formby.. Whilst wearing a bright red rose... Thanx for putting me right. D.F:

  • I think you'll find Fred lived in Bolton which last time I looked is in deepest Lancashire mate. But your right, Yorkshire is the top place.

  • sorry, wasn't showing replies for some reason, someone beat me to it

  • fred was from lancashire david freeman

  • Yes pal I now know...I have also had three e.mails telling me of my foolish mistake...no more please I'm a beaten man,and need no more stick, even my wife is threatening to leave me..But whatever, God bless Fred!

best wishes to all folks that loved F.D....

  • Hate to do this to you, but Fred wasn't a Yorkshireman. He was a Lancastrian. RED Rose Country, and eternal arch-enemy of Yorkshire, heh.

  • so do i

  • awwww. i miss fred.

  • Good old Fred god bless him..

  • watch the whole clip, it flies off at 4:05

  • lol, so funny when his hat flew off

  • it didnt fly off, he took it off
