Seriously, are you selling this beauty? I've been in the market for one of these things forever! I found one for 1,700 bucks, but some grease-ball bought it before I had the chance! I'd give you your 200 bucks for this gem any day! REPLY BACK, YOU STILL BETTER HAVE THIS ELEGANT JEWEL.
I had a 77 Gremlin. It was one of a few made with a 4-cylinder, 4-speed manual. What a piece of junk! It had engine parts made by Volkswagen and Audi. I literally had to drive to different dealers to get parts!
I'm the owner of the Gremlin in the commercial. The thing is, that is how I open the door to the car. Great car, lousy door locks. Neither door opens from the outside. Many years ago when I got my tags renewed, the motor vehicle department said my car "had exceeded it's mechanical limits". Then I drove it across the country twice.
This video is just the funniest damn thing I have seen, yet it is not that far from the real commercials! Your vehicle has "exceeded it's mechanical limits". That is hilarious! Well, since it is still running in this commercial, maybe AMC over-engineered the vehicle! It may not be good enough for the motor vehicle dept, but it's good enough for me! Yeah.
@Kirkomatic you realize that the statement "had exceeded it's mechanical limits" was in reference to the odometer passing the 99,999. not the car itself. The 232/258 engines of the Gremlin have been known to go over the 400,000 mark without issue
@Kirkomatic I had a 74 Gremlin X with the 258 six cylinder. The engine just started falling apart after only 32,000 miles. The valve cover "gasket" which was just a line of butyl caulking, turned brittle and crumbled into the oil pan. It got into the lifters, which hung up and made it sound like a machine gun. The exhaust donut blew out constantly. The back window popped open when I hit a bump. Couldn't start the car until the seat belt was fastened. I loved that car. Wish I had it back.
@4q2pab The car was designed by Richard Teague, it was the first American built subcompact beating Pinto and Vega to the market by 6 months. Cost of tooling was 6 million (1970) dollars AMC made much more back. You never heard of Gremlins exploding when they were rear ended
This is the greatest AMC spoof yet! If you are offended by this, you are just plain lame! There is a reason this car company went out of business, and this car is one of those reasons!!! There is nothing attractive about this car. It is a total POS! I remember passing one of these pieces of garbage, and looking at the Levi's jeans badge on the side! What other piece of crap could you get that had factory seats made out of Levi's jeans??? Only the AMC, baby!
Huh? The majority of AMC's cars were badass and highly respected collectors items. The only car that wasn't adored by the masses was the gremlin, and even most people liked them.
Actually this car now resides in The Portsmith Hall Used Car Museum in Old Bear Snout, Montana and has been designated as an endangered vehicular species.
The poor car.... Its not even a 74. Its older than that. Perhaps 72-73, with a replace grill. Looking at the rear glass, its the same as 71-73 model. Are you seriously selling it? I will buy the rear glass if you want to part it out. Let me know.

That background music sounded like it came from Ricardo Maltaban's Chrysler Cordoba commercial featuring rich Corinthian leather.

I do too. All "rejected" cars have special parking spots in my heart. AMC Gremlin's flaws, although many, are still fixable.

I know the owner. It's a 1974. Has 240,000 on the original engine, no rebuild. Still runs great, but gets pulled over a lot.

I think it probably is a 74. Look at the bumper. It has the big ugly beefed up bumper for the new crash standards that came out in 74.
Junietwerps 2 years ago
Yeah your right, now that i look at it closer, its got verticle lines running down the rear quarter panels too :)
