its such a shame no one in my generation know about her wonderful music... not even after her death! rip etta, i will always be a huge fan of urs! if people my age (15) listened more to your music, the world would be such a better place.
RIP baby i adored you, i cried non stop when i heard about ur death.... such a loss! i adore you and i will always do. i am 14, i've been a fan of u since i was 12... u've inspired me in my songwriting and singing, i am a huge fan of yours, there will never be a singer like you, at least in the next 50 years... :(
Great video remembering one of the greatest voices to ever sing. I believe Otis Redding owns the male. Often people forget that the voice box is the only instrument we are born with.
When he sang gospel you have one great argument. (The passion he sang with). I would not disagree with your opinion at all. Elvis hada voicebox lof pure gold. as well. Cheers! P.S. My brother-in-law and you would be clapping hands over my head right now. He is a HUGE Elvis fan.
@irishbear76 Elvis ,believe it or not only ever got 3 grammys and all were for gosple.
I have been a member of the U.K. Elvis fan club for over 30yrs a fan longer.
Elvis met Mahalia Jackson in 69 on the set of his last film Change of Habit.
She was doing some kind of fund raising and had a number of stars lined up for a gosple show Elvis was very much up for it but the Colonel wasn't and contracts never allowed him to perform.Shame.
[R.I.P. Etta James] -You always brought Peace, Comfort, and Joy to my heart through your angelical songs, my whole childhood life; and here you are with your sweet lovely anlgelical voice in my ears once again... It's been a long time...
May peace, love, comfort, and joy find you at Heavens Gates "HE IS YOURS AT LAST!" Until we met again... You will always be alive in my heart. [R.I.P. Etta James] ~♥~Your sister in Christ Debbie ~♥~
god bless to a great legend. a lady that was an inspiration to our world, and our souls. etta james, sang meaning threw her music with love, god bless and sadly missed.god bless her family.and prayers sent there way.keep playing etta james for the next generations, bless. at last is my favorite.
IMHO this is way better than Ella's she brought a real, honest quality to this song, but shes not known for this song... its a shame as I think its her best!! RIP Etta, you were a lady and a legend!!
RIP Etta....Riverside has lost a long time resident and one of the great voices in blues. at least she doesn't have to see her family and friends fight over her and her money anymore. At Last...:(
I love Etta, saw her front and center on the grass at the Long Beach Jazz Festival in the 80's, but this is not my favorite rendition of a fave song. Roberta Flack and Sting did the best job in the movie soundtrack and I can't find it.
She will always be remembered as one of the great ones......her soulful interpretations and emotional grit are unmatched as far as I'm concerned. This Gershwin classic has been interpreted my many, but few do it justice, such as Etta.
Personally, I think Asher Book sings this better, but this was a just different style! Both were great! Asher's just makes your heart melt a little bit!
Etta can sing anything. You should check out her version of Randy Newman's "Sail Away" or her rendition of the old W.C. Handy classic "The St. Louis Blues."

@savamounange I agree, also, Kim Burrell could have done this better than Etta if she tried to. Etta's voice is too powerful and rough for this song.
