@joshb0508 I actually have never used an external frame pack. Typically they are heavier in their spec sheet which is a serious downside. However if you want an external frame pack I would see how it feels on the spine of your back when fully loaded with real gear. Some internal frame backpacks that don't have a full back frame have an unformed "back pad" that can be like a lump digging into your back for some people. If this feels ok and the weight doesn't bother you, I say go for it.
I'm off hiking the Appalachian Trail right now so that's why I'm not putting up any more videos. I've been out here for almost 3 months and plan on being out here for at least that much longer. I will start putting together more videos sometime after I return.
After thirty years of lugging Army backpacks someone it's too late for my shoulders. I could have used this instruction in 1975 before my first 12 mile speed march.
