Jeez, I remember this. I live just 1/2 mile from a crossing along this line and about 1.5 miles from where this happened. It is definitely right in the middle of a densely populated area.
Also where the engines came to rest (just north of American Furniture Warehouse where the switch is) the tack runs along a ridge and a rather sharp turn. Good thing none of the engines fell down that steep embankment.
I'm still not sure if anyone has been prosecuted today.
Jackass or jackasses, what if that train had a tanker full of chlorine or something worse spill over? Possibly 1000's of lives at stake. When caught they should be charged with attempted murder.
We hit a 500 gal. propane tank one night. Thank God it was empty. We hit the floor quick-fast. We were running 50mph on a loaded coal & it just knocked the tank out of the way.
Probably expected the stump to be crushed and broken to pieces - and they were likely watching to see it happen.
They probably live nearby.
Anyone know who?

@PhantomDark21 It was stated in the info posted by the uploader: "Westminster Police say an officer was called out to the train tracks around 8:30 p.m. on Monday because someone noticed the tree stump on the tracks. The officer removed the tree trunk, but investigators believe that someone then put that stump back on the track."
you think thats bad... well actualy yea lol its bad i cant top it, but HERE is sum realy hurtin kids, search up Kids Vs Train. there next up to the Firing Squad lol
i put a penny on the tracks once- the train was coming up a 3% grade and couldnt stop, cuz it wouldve had to call for more power to get out of there- it hit the penny
Well... I don't know about shooting them. In fact, even though I said that dragging it back on after being removed shows cold blooded intentions, I may have been wrong about that. Would kids redeposit the stump, still convinced that it wouldn't cause a derail? Probably. If someone was motivated to hurt or kill others, they'd probably have gone to greater lengths...but there still needs to be consequences, and probably a mental evaluation. What a terrible mistake they made.
Tree stump was placed at the crossing,1000 yards away is a switch. Stunp was shoved ot the switch then it stopped and lifted the Trucks on the SD 60.Everything went to hell from there. The conductor was riding in the SD 70 and was ok,I was in Cheyenne and this is what got me deadheaded home. Got some pics when running a sulfur train up and a stacker back. Was a mess for a few weeks.
Hey Skip sorry this took a bit. No line was open within 24 hours. We were deadheaded out of Cheyenne and took a train up next afternoon. Only one hurt was the brakeman and he just had a twisted ankle IIRC.I think before I bounced out of Denver they had caught one and he was looking like he would flip.
@SkipW It is doubtful if the crew will ever fully recover. I was the conductor on a passenger train that hit a police car and killed the driver back in 1990 and just this month I was up all night because every time I closed my eyes all I could see were the dead policeman's eyes. He never saw a thing.
@jarhead4God Wow. sorry man. I've been fortunate enough in a long career never to have had a serious incident like this. BUt I have plenty of friends who have.
@rockisland57 Ahh ok, I read the title of the video, and I was like, how the...fuck does a train hit a tree stump? Was think, build the track around the tree stump next time? Glad you cleared that up for me lol.
lol would a scooter on a train track then make this happen... i hope not hahaha, but good thing i didnt. was gonna tho to see what would happen next day
have some respect for the people who keep the trains running. if it weren't for trains your supermarket would probably be empty. not to mention the extreme danger these people were placed in through the threat of derailment.
Not to mention all of you who are so addicted to your video games or computers wouldn't be able to play them once the power is shut off. Nearly half or more of our country's coal is moved by rail. I find it funny that the folks in the white house are wanting to switch to an alternative energy source that doesn't exist, Three quarters of our country's electricity comes from coal. I'd love for coal power plants to shut down for one day, to show everyone what would happen if we stopped using coal.
It isn't about switching to alternative energy that doesn't exist...it does exist, but the same people won't let it happen. For example, they were going to build a solar power plant in the Mojave desert that would put out as much power as Hoover Dam (which environmentalists want to shut down too), but Democrats blocked it to "save" the desert tortoise!
It's about shutting down the coal industry with NO replacement. We'll be expected to use less power overall. Sounds fun, doesn't it?
@randommagnum The Democrats aren't against alternative energy or solar grids in the desert. They just want them located where there is the least harm to the environmental, including endangered species, and native American sacred sites. BTW, trains are the most environmentally friendly method of shipping freight. And passengers, too.
@markhinr You and the others may claim that, but we know it's a lie, because we've seen you act. There is no place better than the desert.. Anywhere else you'd try to put it, they'd try to put a stop to it.
EVERYWHERE they'd find some "endangered" species, or Indian burial ground or something.
well of course tree stumps dont crash they dont have wheels and run on train tracks now do they? however they do blow up good if you shove a stick of dynamite in em.
Yeah! Heck, look at what they did...they could've killed several people. They intentionally tried to hurt or kill people. They were so motivated that they put the stump back on the tracks after it was removed...that kind of persistence shows cold blood, I would say.
This is about 24 hr after the crash, after all the heavy equipment had arrived to clean it all up. So this video is into the second night of the line being closed.
