thats a tbi engine. pumping does nothing. it doesn't have a carburetor or a accelerator pump

Only a chevy can start with engine problems, btw that air could be from the fan, and you should have checked the air filter, mice love that air compartment

haha just FYI it doesnt help to pump the pedal on an EFI... and if you do its best while its cranking... yes most chevy's are kinda stiff in the cold... but they run awesome after they are warmed up (V-8's not 6's) haha

It's a TBI (Throttle Body Injection) fuel injection system. Looks similar to a carb.

pumping it will not do any good, its a tbi setup and its computer controlled. it will only squirt gas when it is running

Shoulda gave it a shot of carb cleaner in the intake while crankin on it woulda fired right up. but the dudes prolly right sounded like a vaccum leak, or just sitting in cold weather for almost a year. Also sounds like some1 is a snowaphobe lol

Dude, that sounds pretty aweful. Sounds like you have a serious timing belt prob. Just hearing the starter kinda gives me the feeling. I'm no mechanic, but I have been around lots of vehicle repairs in my lifetime.

Not sure if its that but its also missing some sensors and has lots of broken vacuum lines among other things. I'm planing on removing this engine faxing it and putting it in my 69' Chevy pickup.

It's some part of the heater system makes that clicking sound when you turn the key or "pliers" on in this case.
