In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.
i was bought a full size violin for christmas( id wanted one since i was like 5) but i have very small hands and have difficulty get my finger over to the g- string without pressing the other strings any advice
I would personally just learn to play right handed due to the fact that if you play in an orchestra you will be playing the opposite direction of everyone else. You can use a guide like the one I used to make the transition easier, as I too went through the same predicament years ago. Check out MasterOfInstruments . com -- without the spaces
i've been wanting to play the violin for a really long time. I plan on buying a violin in the next week or two, but I've heard you shouldn't buy a left-handed violin, and that they weren't that great (Seeing as how I am left handed)?
I was just curious if i should go ahead and buy a left-handed violin or just get one for the right hand?
I'm the same position - I'm left handed too. I've been advised to learn it right handed. If you ever want to play in an orchestra and you learn it left-handed then you may have difficulty in being allowed to play because you'll be facing the opposite direction to all the other violinists!
go with the full size, at the age your at you are pretty much grown, unless you are a smaller lady then i would go with the 3/4th it all depends on your body type. hope this helps!
I have a question. My right hand is completely numb and therefore useless in the sense of playing and instrument. Can I use that as my bow hand and pick (probably wrong term) the fingerboard with my left hand?
Oh of course. It's really difficult to find a violin for left handed people anyway. So, if you're right handed then you will use your right hand for the bow and your left to hold the violin. :-)
I'm really sorry, but these things freak me out sooo much!

DO NOT READ! A little over 20years ago a 12 year old boy was playing with his basketball in the street on Acto Street, NJ. Some teenagers who were drag racing on motorcycles weren't paying attention and ran him over and killed him. it is said that if you go on Acto Street, turn off your car, and blink your headlights 3 times you will see the figure of him bouncing the ball. Now that you have read this you must post this on 4 other messages in the next 10min, or you will die in an auto accident.
