  • This is great. Just picked up my Yugo M59 and this is some timely stuff!

  • hello sir i bought an sks and its not semi auto.i have to pull the bolt everytime i shoot it i wonder what could be the problem and if it can be fixed to be semiauto ?

  • @muslefan I think your problem is because it is set to fire grenades. All you have to do if that is the case it flick the little switch somewhere up by the gas tube and it should switch to semi auto

  • Thank you ... really helpful ... especially the parts where you say be careful

  • my magazine will not budge

  • hi. My SKS's Receiver retention pin would not move out to point to the top... it is stuck I think... I just bought this from another person. Should I use a punch?

  • good but you shouldve tried to show a little bit more detail but im new to it so i guess u know more than me anyway lol

  • Nice video... and nicely explained disassembly and cleaning kit use.

  • is that a chinese SKS

  • Excellent job on the video, thank you

  • Probably the best video on SKS take down, that Ive seen! Great job, and thanks for taking the time!

  • Nice video. Thanks! I need help. i jst dis.and cleaned my Norinco and when I move to assemble I put the gas assembly & piston BEFORE replacing the optn rod and spring and now I am stuck. Any ideas?

  • Thank you for the how-to! It was very helpful.

  • how can we upload your video to our laptop so we can easily access your video while doing the disassembly and cleaning thing without going throug internet?

  • Is the bayonet sharp? Seems like something of a hazard for disassembly with it essentially unsheathed and unprotected. In your experience, if I'll be shooting corrosive berdan ammo in the SKS, what is the extent of the disassembly I have to go through on a normal basis? TIA :)

  • thank you very much, I just bought a sks (11/24/10) living in california Im stuck with a fixed magazine but but its only illegal if you get caught with it. I was kinda intimidated by the disassembly but you made it look easy, thanks again...

  • thank you for this video

  • Great vid! Thx for the video.

  • Just picked one up and you answered all my questions in this one vid, Thanks.

  • If I could disassemble and then reassemble my Chinese SKS that fast, I would feel like a badass. lol

  • the disassembly lever has to be pulled out to the side. i made the mistake of not figuring that out

  • Dang, imagine getting stabbed with that thing...Now that would be a day ruiner.

  • I had my sks out shooting the other day, and a weird thing happened. On two occasions when I pulled the trigger, it shot in a two to three round burst.

now I am thinking it is one of two things

    1. the way I pulled the trigger was that of a bump fire causing it to rapidly discharge a second and third time

    2. mechanical

if its the latter, can any of you with similar experience tell me what the hell it is causing it to run away on me

I think it was my trigger pull or at least I hope

  • @Alexn1067 your firing pin is probably dirty and sticking to your bolt causing a slam fire, which is common to the SKS.

  • @Alexn1067 Its called a slam fire. Clean your firing pin and bolt face really well. If that doesnt fix it take it to a professional.

  • i have the same exact sks but i dont like how it looks.. i want it to look more modern. so can u change the stock on it?

  • @eLO419 yes they have lots of stocks out there

  • After removing the magazine and trigger group my stock still won't budge.

  • dosent EOD stand for Explosive Ordinance Disposal?

  • dosent EOD stand for Explosive Ordinance Disposal?

  • Nice video, thank you. I had not realized that there was a release button behind the trigger group.

  • @ironbar66 Go to full screen and back up the video in areas where you want to see detail. I have to go fast due to limited video recording time. That is the great thing about youtube the user has the ability to go back to particular parts of the video.

  • @erieordnancejim

No I think what he wants is to be spoon fed the information. Great video.

  • @ironbar66 I have no problem with the video.

  • @ironbar66 Actually, the video is very informative. It is no secret that this guy knows what he is talking about. Keep the mouse in hand and pause between instructions. You may have to rewind a couple of times, but trust me, the information is there. Look at other you tube how to videos, the host spends most of the time telling you useless information mixed with their opinions, back ground stories and just dribble in general.

  • @ironbar66 what are you slow?

  • i replaced my original stock with a t6 and the lock down leaver will not lock the gas tube in place it is impossible to get down, anyone else have this problem?

  • Thanks for posting.

  • this is a good, CLEAR and watchable video.

see my site, I am shooting a Chinese Norinco 300 yards with no scope and the cheapest Monarch black powdered non boat tailed ammo I can buy. About 1 minute.

  • Awesome information explaining the SKS cleaning kit. Thanks.

  • Good vid. Informative and straight to the point.

  • wow, that was really a good vid. thanks

  • Nice informative vid. Was wondering if I was missing a part in my SKS cleaning kit. Looks like I was missing the pin or rod that makes the "T" handle. Did SKS cleaning kits vary with that pin or not? Or did they all have them? All I had in mine was a jag and brush.

  • For zhi---Thats what the pause button is for---Just atip for when your watching these helpful vids

  • Are these legal in california?

  • @Maetr1k

As long as they have the fixed ten round magazine and don't have the grenade launcher feature they are legal. You will have to go through a ffl dealer though.

  • If they're legal in Canada, they must be legal in California lol

  • actually canada is better for guns than cali in some ways, for example i hear in canada you can have the .50 cal rifles, not in cali though

  • @NormanMatchem they are legal in canada

  • @JohneyLockhart I know that already. I'm Canadian and I own a Russian SKS. Basic non-restricted license is enough for an SKS. AK47s are prohibited by name, however. But then semi auto cz-858's, which look very similar to the AK47, is treated the same as an SKS if given an extended barrel. All these firearms shoot the same 7.62x39 round. Canadian firearm laws weren't made by smart men.

  • @NormanMatchem Could not have said it better, myself! Fellow Canadian, and SKS owner here

Non-restricted. It's the easiest license to get, it gives the holder access to long barreled shotguns and rifles.

  • I never really know how to use that kit, until now. Thanks

For future reference you are going a little too fast. Great video anyway.

  • nice vid.

  • For my YUGO SKS i bought a folding stock and an extra 20 round magazine.

WOW its looks really mean and cool.

This past weekend I set paper targets out at 110 yards .

In the standing position and using the SKS's open sights I totally destroyed all of the targets in less than 8 secs.

  • WOW man. You know that gun.

  • So stock is held down by the trigger group and magazine? And taking these out allows it to just be pulled out?

  • I just recently went in a local gun store and they had a yugo sks, so i checked it out and everything took the gas tube off and everything else. It all looked pretty nice, except the stock kinda wiggled a little up where your hand rests. i didnt know if that could be fixed or what, or if there was something wrong with the locking mech. please write back if you have any information.

  • nice yugo BTW

  • you went WAY too fast. :(

  • I just got my Russian sks-45 yesterday.

everything is fine except I can't get the damn retaining pin out of the bolt so that I can check it for cosmoline.

also I tried testing the extractor by putting a spent 7.62x39mm shellcasing in the chamber but when I closed the bolt it would go all the way forward and then it was really difficult to pull it back up to eject the shell. Is this normal? or did the chamber swell or something?

  • Very nicely done! Makes me want to go out and do a little shooting, and hopefully my cleaning job will go as smoothly as your video!

  • Help ..... I have a Yugo 59/66 I can't get the gas tube off. need to clean out the cosmo

  • Check to be sure the gas port is free of obstructions and be certian that the valve block is free of obstructions. Make sure that both of the pistons are free to move. I would reccomend taking it to a local gunsmith to have it looked at there may be a headspace issue if the action is not operating as it should. Be safe and use caution.

  • Hey...good informational video on the SKS. I have a problem....I tried 2 different types of ammo, pointed the gas to the "on" position down & to the right, cleaned the SKS & it stills misfires everytime. Its lilke shooting a BOLT action rifle. EVERY SHOT I HAVE TO PULL THE BOLT BACK.

CAN U HELP or GIVE MORE INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.

    THANKS BUDDY.

  • if its ayugo it has a switch that makes single shot. swithch it for semi, its under the gas tube

  • I cant get my trigger assembly in i have it on safety too i used lots of force and still wont go in do i need to talk the bolt off or does anything have to be taken apart before it will go in?

  • Hi; I would take the BOLT assembly off, then turn the rifle upside down, have another person hold the rifle down FIRMLY, switch the safety to ON POSITION, then with a screwdriver press firmly & the TRIGGER ASSEMBLY should go into place.

let me know if this works.

  • do you know how to replace the rear leaf spring. Mines is broken. need help

  • if you ever get to disassemble the trigger assembly the tool handle tube is a must have to get the hammer out.

  • Fastest disassembly I've seen

    with an SKS. Very informative.

    Thank you.

  • theres two shops in town selling these gun for around $259 each and to be honest i was intimidated in buying an older gun like this but you make it seem relatively easy to keep them maintained. Thanks a lot

  • the sks is a great weapon it fires the same 7.62 39 round the ak47 fires and is more accurate than the ak....jus make sure the firing pin moves freely in the bolt (or u could have a full auto disaster even without touching the trigger!!!!!) or sent it to murrays gunsmithing for a replacement pin and spring (which i highly recommend)

  • yes to the best of my knowlage

  • do all the yugo 59/66 have the flip up night sights not to be confused with the gl sight?

  • Mineral spirits work well. some folks like to use a heat gun and melt it off. I sugest doing it outside suspended from something. I like brake parts cleaner it is inexpensive and is very close to Hoppes "Gun Scrubber" which retails for near $8.00 a can.

  • thanks!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, I'm the cameraman. (not bragging at all) I just put up my own vid and keep checking out this channel. I just got a vid editing program so I can make this a little less boring. see ya!

  • when you buy these guns new what is the best chemical to use to clean up the cosmoline???

  • dipping the metal parts in kerosine works well soak for about an hour

  • nice!very helpful!!
