This is probably inspired in Brazilian music. There's a tune called "Eu sei que vou te amar" from Tom Jobim which sounds a hell of a lot like this one. Timmons is a big fan of Brazilian music which is one of the richest in chord progressions.
@Kuuuhn Right! The problem is that most people that want to give their two cents about a guitarist DON'T understand the guitar or even thoroughly understand theory. If they play blinding fast, have a cool looking guitar or have a couple of good licks they win and that's a shame. Andy is one of a few that in a league of his own! They guy can play anything great from blue grass to metal. Few can do that most can play what they specialise in and that's it!!!!
I am a big fan of Andy but if you listen to brazilian Tom Jobin's "Eu sei que vou te amar", you will know from where this piece of music comes from...
you're right, sounds like any good bossa nova without the rhythm (harmonywise). The line behind rhe hamony is simple (as he says) but still beautiful.
@lftcbox - You have got to be kidding - There are NO similarities between those two pieces at all! The chord progression is one used in the same STLYE of music, but these are chalk and cheese!
@mozzy2410 I'm not talking about chord progression neither I said it was similar or so...I'm talking about influence and the music similarities in general, specially the melody. If you can't feel this, I'm sorry.
oh...poor andy!...this piece is plagied...the original came with tom jobim, a composer from brazil.....and is call ligia!!!!...nothing original here, i´m sorry andy, but we from brazil knows the true!!!!!!!
Jobim is no joke! He is the trademark of brasilian music.
No one is stupid enough to deny that.
The thing is that "Ligia" and "Gone" are built upon chords with (from my prespective) similar tensions, but that does not make Gone a copy of Ligia. Then again, its just my point of view.
My friend Ligia and Gone are 2 completely different songs of 2 completely diferent (but talented as well) authors. I've heard ligia and gone thousand of times and I can't still see the "plagio". LEAVE ANDY ALONE!!! (hahahaha)
Just amazing. Sounds great even with no support from a backing track , And plays with so so much emotion.

The chord on 3:28 sounds like inversion of A7.It's E Dflat G and A so it's 3rd inversion with the root played at the top.5,major3,7 and 1.

Andy is amazing... @Kuuuhn, you are so right.... I follow Vai, Govan, Satch, Morse and Andy is right up there in my opinion.

@shanman1168 sounds weird but Andy always reminded me of a cross between Vai and SRV lol. Not exactuly sure why though.

not really, only the first 2 chords sound similar, the rest is different. Maybe he was inspired by that song but that's not plagiarism.
