since the formula of armour has been changed what other brands can i look for? i heard there has been a shortage and if need be, i am willing to get this drug from canada. this is so frustrating!

Web sites such as 'stopthethyroidmadness' are saying good things about 'nature-throid', which is apparently coming back into full supply. (they also had a temporary shortage because of the Armour shortage, but ramped up to meet the demand) There may be other good brands as well.

i talked to my dr. and i'm going to try canada's Thyroid since it seems it will be the easiest to get-just order online. it claims it's equivalent to Armour on their website and will not be changing their formula

Unfortunately Forest Pharmaceuticals has changed the formula of Armour Thyroid by the spring of 2009 (after decades! with the same efficient formula) and many patients previously well treated on Armour start to have severe hypo symptoms again.

But there are other companies producing tablets with desiccated thyroid, so one can find adequate alternatives to Armour Thyroid.

You are correct. The Armour formula was recently changed and it is not the same formulation it was when Dr. Hertoghe originally recommended it. The old formula was receiving some criticism from some MD's for having corn based additives in it--and were starting to recommend Nature-throid. I would have thought a more prudent decision for Forest would have been to bring a second version on the market... instead of risking wrecking its established brand.... reminds me of "New Coke".

Not everyone efficiently converts T4 into T3. Many patients need the addition of T3 to restore proper thyroid functioning.
