@sethillation I agree that it's not our business to not get involved with Libya, or probably Iraq for that matter, but Afghanistan was 110% justified. Also, the threat of Iranians possessing fissile materials (and they've got a history of saying they would use any means to attack Israel and the US) I think justifies our military presence against Iran. Also, our military is usually the first on the scene to provide relief during natural disasters, such as Haiti, and the 2005 Tsunami.

Im pretty sure if I heard some mortars dropping anywhere near me I'd be pretty scared.

@nktang In combat, drills go out the window, & a low ground to high ground engagement such as this it's best to get as many rounds downrange ASAP. While it's not by the book, it gets the job done, & an experienced 11c can adjust by "feel" to some extent.

As for the pointing to a different area, he was receiving his coordinates from his GC and was pointing out enemy that he was seeing. There was likely another mortar team firing, if you have a fire mission you don't deviate unless instructed.

@Kolashov judging by how many rounds they dropped and the angle they could have been shooting a FPF mission (final protective fires). its pretty much a line that IF the enemy gets close enough to your kop or fob they fire everything they got on said line. mortars, arty, you name it. the whole idea is to limit the enemies advance and to cut off their escape.

my boy fleming and me. lex what u dont see is that the section sgt is off to the side pulling ammo from the asp while we all look at the ridges to see where the fire is coming from he is also directing the fire of the 120 about 100 yards away over the icom, we used an unconventional direct lay to lay down as much supressing fire as possible while traverse and search. hooligans those werent rpgs they were 107's we took 4 or 5 this firefight from about 2 1/2 to 3 klicks a spot called rocket ridge
