van morrison sang romanticaly about the streets of belfast in various albums especially the wonderful astral weeks. writers use poetic liscence. dont take it so literal.

@ericj874 -- I think THAT'S what he meant...cold eyes, dark night.....and then there was Ruth - I don't think he was saying GOOD things about Duluth...or at least that's what I got!...what an amazing, amazing writer...say what you will about our friend BobbyD. - the man knows how to write a song like no other..!!
