it's hard to believe that while Hawaii seemed so beautiful and peaceful... this was also the time of the height of the Thrid Riech on the other side of the world. How extreme life can be!
I do not totally agree with crimson, but I do understand completly what he means. But the world should learn that Hawaii is the proberty of the native Hawaiians and they deserve this certain respect. All people who love this islands should realize this and show the natives the respect about historical facts. This film shows nothing about the real life, its just a tourist thing. The Hawaiian culture is so rich in any direction and deserves an respectful treatment. Hawaii for the Hawaiians...
I do not see one Hawaiian in this film, learn the facts, the real Hawaiians did not and still do not welcome the tourist industry. Hawaii was stolen from its people for the profit of foreigners, these missionary descendants were illegally backed by the US. Today many of the Hawaiian people are still furious. And here is quick tip, every time a tourist hears someone say 'aloha'- we really mean 'fuck you, go home'. Tourism is the new plantation system in Hawaii. That is 'what happened'.
@grimcrimson I agree with grimcrimson. Most of the natives of Hawaii are assholes towards any foreign visitor. I visited there once in 1989 and I shall never return.
@grimcrimson would love to see your DNA....you would be shocked to discover how many wannabes try passing themselves off as Hawaiian....How many "hawaiians" are devasated to learn that 90% asian and 10% truk no make you Hawaiian, fricka.
@grimcrimson You must be blind if you don't see any Hawaiians in this film. All those ladies selling lei in the beginning , D. Kahanamoku, Auntie Genoa. You are an embarassment to say Aloha means fuck you. You embarass Hawaii and all the Hawaiians that show aloha and share love for one another. Hawaii was overthrown and wrongs have been done. Punish the right people. Don't act sour to those who have nothing to do with it. You are what's wrong with new hawaiians that only want to go to blame .
Castle Films (like this one) were sold mostly for individuals to show at home. Amateur film projectors of that time were nearly all silent, since sound film technology then was expensive - so this film has no soundtrack.
Aloha from Mexico City, mahalo for sharing all this material that enlight us the era of this beautifull islands, ways and costumes that there after were reflected at the hula of that time.
I like how the video is done :)
