  • the thing i don't like in 3ds max is that, that u can,t made you mustl ike drag from square, u can't make like a vertex and then just made from them face, and then edges .

  • @Mountaind3ws you can create a plane and apply as a texture.

  • cant find that template on the page :(

  • @dsteffens Me either, He should have a link because the site has a gazillion items to choose from.

  • u have to do it exact in the shown order to make it work.

make it an editable poly - then delete top/bottom - and only then the loop edge thing works.

thank u for that tutorial. i`d give u money, if i had any. ;)

  • @Mountaind3ws add a plane and put the texture ( blueprint ) on that.. for instance

  • man, i wanna loop the edge but i just can't. i click on "loop" and then i hold shift key and just pull down but it doesn't loop the plane, please help!

  • @demian91 you will need to delete the polygon of thoe edges. Top face of the cyclinder in this case

  • how can i put that humanoid there?

  • prodigy ftw!

  • man please help. at 2:45 you hold your shift key and pull but when i do that nothing happens. im with 3ds max 2010.help!

  • @nikidimitrov have you deleted its face

  • you are profeesional

  • Do A girl man! : Just kidding. Its really helpful. But belive me, its not so easy as you see on youtube.

  • when I "Shif and Pull" my edges, the top cylinder is smooth but the polys I just created aren't, who do I change that please :'( ?

  • @bliofet If you apply a smooth modifier it should fix that problem. thx

  • You are really great.Awesome tutorials. You are the one who motivated me to start using 3Dsmax.Thnx soo much man! :)

  • I fell honoured to have watched your videos! :)

  • These tutorials are very helpful :) thanks for posting them.

  • How were you able to put the blueprints into 3ds max? I've only freeformed model before but I'd like to use a blue print for more accuracy :)

  • @RafikiEarthPaw just use it as a material in a plane.

  • GOOD

  • For some reason pressing shift and dragging won't extrude like it's doing in the video.

  • I have one question(it's not related to this tutorial)

I'm modelin star wars at-at walker and when I was at the beginning and trying to make blueprints I had one problem while I was making front view blueprint. Picture was 1024x1024 pixels and it looked awfully blurry for no reason. Other pictures were all fine and planes were almost the same size.. do you know what was my problem??

    btw. great tutorial :)

  • great tutorial =)

    I just have 1 trouble...

After I seted up my blueprint plane & texture and added a box/cylinder, I want to see the segments of the box. But after pressing F3, both turning into segments.

also the plane with the texture. I only want to see the segments of the box and not of the plane with the blueprint setup... pls help ;p

sry for my english.. I am german... =)

  • Thank you for tuto.

  • how can i paste jpeg file into 3DSM 9? if i drag and drop it will be pasted for backround, not a workplace, pls help... (sry for my bad english)

  • Does anybody know if it is possible to model an object using some splines and arranging it like the wire frame on object and some way convert it into a a poly shape? does anyone understand what i am talking about? It is kind of like lofting but more complex, does 3ds max have a feature for this?

  • yea, you can do splines in max.

  • @LTF85199 Yeah .... it´s called cage modeling.

do a search on the help inside 3ds max

  • @OneWorld4us Thank you ... you got it spot on... will same me a lot of time thanks again for replying..

  • @LTF85199 yeah.. it´s called cage modeling.. do a search at the help documentation inside 3ds max

  • @LTF85199 ...look up CrossSections in 3DS MAx help. you use Cross Section modifier on the splines then Surface modifier.

  • @LTF85199 ...look up CrossSections in 3DS MAx help. you use Cross Section modifier on the splines then Surface modifier.

  • @blackapple50 i will thx

  • @LTF85199 create splines then make surfaces with cross section button

  • @LTF85199 sure, close your splines, then rightclick -> Convert to Poly

  • damn im idiot i have use edit mesh not edit poly..heh!

  • i have 3dmax 9 and i dont have loop tool ???

  • ah never mind i found out what it is, when i added the symmetry i didn't check the weld seam option :), keep bringing these tutorials out mate they are fantastic!

  • I wonder if anyone can help me, i am following this tutorial and when it comes to bringing the two legs together around 8 mins 20 secs he switches on show final result and drags the verts closer until they snap together, but for me my verts do not snap, am i missing a setting somewhere ? plus sorry if that was hard to understand :) thanks if you can help.

  • You don't think you could by any chance take the time to quickly show how you set up you're blueprints to match? Not just for me but for everybody new to this, it would be greatly appriciated. I'm sure of it.

  • Yo, this method is extremely useful for modeling characters. Thanks for the tutorial , you have no idea how much this is helping me to model my characters. (extremely appreciative XD)

  • hey is this how u do all your models

  • i have a problem . I make a tutorial in 3ds max, how to model an audi tt 2008 and i met this problem : --- i cannot select the edges and the polygons anymore, only if I click on the vertices. I think that i pressed on some buttons on my keyboard and i dont know the shortcuts. If somebody can help me pls respond urgent because i want to finish the tutorial ----- thanx

  • click the select button then push "x" once or twice if that doesnt help your shape is probably locked (unclick the "lock" picture on the bottom toolbar)

i only started 3ds yesterday so if that doesn't help i cant help you any more sorry .

  • thanx for reply but is wasn't that :D .. i've checked accidentaly "Select by vertex" , you can find this in the modifier menu after u have converted into an editable ... Thx anyway for reply, maybe it will help other users

  • thanks alot! Very helpful tutorial!

  • good, but one thing, expert ted boardman once said to us never to use the scale tool like that.

3d max doesn't know that you scaled that

  • its doesn't apply with this type of scaling. Feel free to follow Ted's tips and use an xform on every vert resize and see how far you get. :)

  • i asked him myself, and he said it also wasn't a good idea with this kind of scaling

  • Well, don't do it - i myself will since i know for certian 100% this scaling type with verts does not damage anything - i aint a name dropper though..

  • i try to do it as less as possible, a only asked ted because i wasn't sure

  • Lets just say i have many tutorials myself from big names in the 3d industry - and have spoken to a few and many use this technique. If your happy to go off one guys say so then thats great :).. Personally it takes a little more than one "expert" to tell me its wrong.

  • yeah maybe your right, didn't accually see the purpose of not doing it anyway

  • Yea, well there is no right or wrong I believe. I was taught this way and have never had a problem with it personally or in industry. I know what you mean about uniform scaling, but I don't think it applies here. Otherwise, they made the scale tool for nothing :)..

  • well, you can use scale on the biped

  • Thanks alot

for putting the time to help others

  • Nicely Done .. tnx dude

  • You are awesome you helped me a lot,a lot,a lot.You got subscriber

  • Thanks a lot man,, im really glad i could help you. Keep at it dude:)

  • I am on holiday atm for easter, but i'll be back working with MAX ina few days, i will get a tutorial up for you.

  • can i give more segments while doing this proceedure to get more smoothness and move curvatue....we know dat we will be using turbosmooth ...still can i give more.....can i use cut or slice ...???????

  • Of course you can change the geometry. Slice it, cut into it, do what you like man, its all progress.

  • oh yes....i am really so sorry ....edge loop is more easier and worth the model made...its got the reall good smooth finish. Thank u and i hope u post more good videos. U people are so gr8 and let god bless u guys. In India we say Guru ...And i have found out my GURU. Thank u so much for replying and i am so happy.

    with respect

    David

  • i think box modelling is more easier than this edge modelling ...

  • Give it a chance lol.. I learnt box modeling first then tried this, didn't like it but now only use this method for characters, its all depends on the person.

  • thanks so much man, this is very helpfull and now i know how to use the program properly i am making the modles
