Larger than average blast of solar energy hit Earth's magnetic field. Normally you see only such things near the poles, but this one was massive and reached farther down as well. But it still was as significant as near the arctic reagions, presumably.
@XdarkwolfxX No where does it show everyday. I lived for 9 years Alaska at 61 degrees north (Anchorage) which is about the latitude that it is supposed to show fairly often, and I only saw it once, and very faintly at that. It was still incredible though.
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I saw them last night, they caught me unawares, and I pulled over to the side of the road and watched them until they faded. The best display we've had this far south in my lifetime.
Didn't mean to press post. But people up here take for granted how amazing they really are. Nothing like smoking a joint and watching te northern lights dance
I saw them last night here in the Detroit, Michigan area. I live right in the middle of the metro area so I'm surprised that they overcame the light pollution. The northern lights were an awesome sight!
Great work Mark. I watched the sky and took some great pic's of my own. Great job with the video and from what I have read the lights were visible right down to New Mexico.
Before I die, I will see this in person.
