I work as a sub-editor in the UK (copy editor in the US, but I guess you know that). I studied media at college and also found my way in as a sub-editor at a local paper, rather than grass-roots reporting, and have moved on to higher-paid subbing jobs at other local papers. I would agree with you that copy/sub-editing does jump-start a journalism career. Would you have any advice for a UK sub-editor wishing to move to the States for a similar role?
