Damn, I've seen him live twice but haven't seem him perform this song live yet!! :( Not Forever man or Running on faith either. Sooo many songs I wanna hear though, impossible to get to see them all I guess.... :P
Just love him, one night me and my bff had a few wine coolers too many and played this song about 20 times. Two blacks chick really rockin this one out, lol!!!
Yeah. Give us a clean-shaven face -- at least a somewhat cleaner shave -- and hair that isn't in a losing tug of war with gravity.Your artistry is -- as it always has been -- super, though.Thank-you, Mr. Clapton, thank-you.
@ecSee you are right. I do not care too much about the albums, because it seems healthy for a professional musician to explore new sounds, genres, and maybe revisit favourite songs when recording. However, what I find interesting is the apparent lack of dedication to the instrument in a guitarist. In an interview he admits he saw videos of himself in Youtube from the nineties (perhaps the Nothing but the Blues tour) and that he could not play now most of the things he could play then.
@Samueltrad You have got to be kidding! "Apparent lack of dedication to the instrument"?????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly you know nothing of Eric's work. He made those comments about his playing in reference to the fact he's getting old! Can you say that you're just as skilled as something now as you were years and years ago (I have no idea how old you are, by the way). It's ridiculous to even think that someone might be able to, in their late sixties, do what they could decades before.
@AndrewP222 whomever this is to clearly didn't hear that he gets off on a screaming guitar....lack of dedication my ass. lol I'm 24 and Clapton is the MAN!
@oneidafish my dad died june 18 2010, he was claptons age. sudden heart attack driving. we had had our last conversation an hour before. we both always wanted a 57 chevy to restore. this song hits at the heart! killer tune!!!!
Touring is no easy business especially @65! Give the man a break...I learned how to play guitar listeni ng to Ec records back in 1974. The man never ceases to amaze me in his depth as a guitarist & vocalist. Youcan't watch a video & judge him, Live in concert will send shivers up your spine with his guitar! He continues to grow as an artist & a person who has overcome drugs, the death of a child as well as friends like Hendrix, Duayne Allman, SRV.
@wantrice You would have to ask him why his live song list over the last 4 years has remained 70% identical. I really don't care about the reason. As a person that has seen him over the last 30 years over 40 times, he's changed and his concerts lack originality that he had for the last 20. He's still a great guitar player, but how many times do I want to hear the same well played 15 songs when he has a collection of >30 albums?
Understand that it's not just him, it's his whole band.
I'm sure he could and would play anything from his entire past and present repertoire if in a solo acoustic scenario like Jackson Browne did, taking requests from the audience. It's a lot of work getting a band that large in the pocket for more than 20 songs or so.
i was watching layla live in 2009 on a different video, and clapton looked GREAT!!! here, he looks 20 years older? what the hell is wrong?! this is scaring me...he looked terrible here! he even looked like he didn't want to be at the gig that night. not the usual clapton attitude.
Very interesting comments. Since I'm the poster a 50 year old man that has seen Clapton 50 times in the last 30 years here's my view point. I did not even bother to go to the Chicago Crossroads after going to the earlier three. Eric was original, strived for perfection but he remains one of the best guitars albeit its rehearsed, robotic and the same songs now on tour.

Yes indeed. It caught me off guard. They sounded a lot better than they did at the superbowl.
The performance in this vid was exactly the same as what I saw last night. The backup singer on the right at 0:53 was wearing the same dress too. lol.
@TheVillainOfTheYear Good for The Who. Older or not, their Super Bowl halftime show was awful. You'd think by now they would have enough money and wouldn't embarass themselves in front of a billion people. Clapton still sounds great and he's not exactly a kid.
@moatgoat4...I went saturday in New Orleans! it was amazing.....clapton blew me away like i knew he would...daltry was really good also i was impressed with both of them for putting on a great show!
I was there- 3rd time seeing eric, 1st time seeing Jeff... woke up the next morning and bought my Crossroads festival tix! Now I gotta find a way to Chicago!
i was there. great, great, GREAT show!!!! i was very disappointed that he didn't play layla at all. i would have rather had layla as an encore than crossroads. but i LOVE crossroads as well. great show, nevertheless. (guys, i'm 14 years old and saw eric clapton!!!!!)
Seen him this past Saturday in Nashville, and he was amazing. He's every bit as good as he has ever been, smooth and precise with every note on point. Truly the greatest guitarist alive.
Hey ecSee, at least Eric is playing material that he hasn't played in over 20 years live, like "Forever Man,"Motherless Children," Derek and the Dominos material, and "I've got a Rock N' Roll Heart." *Eric might be bored, but maybe it's a good thing because at least he is playing old material live again. *Did you ever get too see Eric live when Derek Trucks was touring with him?

@ClaptonIsGod461 yes. Like I said 70% of the set list is the same. Just silly that he has 30 years and 30 albums of content to pick from. Come on Little Queen of Spades has been on the set list for over 4 years.
not on this tour. NY Times and I call it dull, thou I still like it. I've seen EC 10 times in the last 4 years and heard triple the boots and you've seen him in the last 4 years, get ready to hear him play 80% of the same songs.
Eric a guy with 30+ albums and is a legend, should stop acting likes he's not bored or putting much renewed effort into his concerts.
@ecSee after 40 plus years he's probably a little tired. give credit where credit is due and stop being selfish. no offense but he deserves this comment.
@brandomitcho I don't understand what being tired has to do with playing the same ~15 songs when you have a catalog of >30 albums. As a top fan that has seen him >40 times over the last 30 years, I have little desire to go see him. He can do whatever he wants, he's still a great player, just sharing my view that I'm into him anymore. Many of my regular (older fan friends) have the same view point.
@brandomitcho Jeff Becks' been playing just as long as EC. And I don't see him getting tired at all. In fact he gets even better with age if that's possible. Sorry, I liked EC in the 60's and a few things in the 70's but he's been on auto pilot for the last 35 years or so. Luckily, he's a good singer and excellent songwriter or he would have been finished by the eighties or at least in Peter Frampton 's position for the last 30 years: still coming around, but to little fanfare.
Jeff Beck has been playing as long as Clapton yeah, but he hasn't been touring every year for the last 45years. Lets be honest, Clapton doesn't need the money , hes a living legend worth millions. He's doing it for love. Stop slagging him off. Just enjoy the music.
Oh, how I laughed when your little annotation came up at the end about the drunk guy. What, do people become blind when they drink? They can't see that you're RECORDING?? lol. Thanks. It's a great post. :))
Love the voice at the end...Yeah men that was awesome and a half!!!

The performance in this vid was exactly the same as what I saw last night. The backup singer on the right at 0:53 was wearing the same dress too. lol.
TheVillainOfTheYear 2 years ago
@TheVillainOfTheYear Good for The Who. Older or not, their Super Bowl halftime show was awful. You'd think by now they would have enough money and wouldn't embarass themselves in front of a billion people. Clapton still sounds great and he's not exactly a kid.

Seeing him in Tulsa tommorow night front row! I have two predictions:
1. J.J. Cale might join him since he lives in Tulsa.
2. Eric will play Tulsa Time.

ClaptonIsGod461 2 years ago
@ClaptonIsGod461 yes. Like I said 70% of the set list is the same. Just silly that he has 30 years and 30 albums of content to pick from. Come on Little Queen of Spades has been on the set list for over 4 years.

not on this tour. NY Times and I call it dull, thou I still like it. I've seen EC 10 times in the last 4 years and heard triple the boots and you've seen him in the last 4 years, get ready to hear him play 80% of the same songs.
Eric a guy with 30+ albums and is a legend, should stop acting likes he's not bored or putting much renewed effort into his concerts.
ecSee 2 years ago
@ecSee after 40 plus years he's probably a little tired. give credit where credit is due and stop being selfish. no offense but he deserves this comment.
brandomitcho 1 year ago
@brandomitcho I don't understand what being tired has to do with playing the same ~15 songs when you have a catalog of >30 albums. As a top fan that has seen him >40 times over the last 30 years, I have little desire to go see him. He can do whatever he wants, he's still a great player, just sharing my view that I'm into him anymore. Many of my regular (older fan friends) have the same view point.
ecSee 1 year ago
@brandomitcho Jeff Becks' been playing just as long as EC. And I don't see him getting tired at all. In fact he gets even better with age if that's possible. Sorry, I liked EC in the 60's and a few things in the 70's but he's been on auto pilot for the last 35 years or so. Luckily, he's a good singer and excellent songwriter or he would have been finished by the eighties or at least in Peter Frampton 's position for the last 30 years: still coming around, but to little fanfare.
RubHerSoul1 1 year ago
@RubHerSoul1
Jeff Beck has been playing as long as Clapton yeah, but he hasn't been touring every year for the last 45years. Lets be honest, Clapton doesn't need the money , hes a living legend worth millions. He's doing it for love. Stop slagging him off. Just enjoy the music.
tvauders 1 year ago 2
@tvauders Actually he says he does need the money that his lifestyle, boats, multiple houses and cars, need him to tour.
