  • thank you so much for posting this video, you've given me hope

  • P.S You should'nt overdose on Vitamins ( ask any doctor)

  • Your hot / You're whatever =[

  • thanks for your idears, good video.

  • I like the video. I like your methodical approach.

I have an experiment to recommend: find a breath work practitioner. I will give you an overview of breath work. Breath unifies the body and the soul/mind. Breathe deeply through the nose from low in the belly to under the neck - full lung capacity. Do it mindfully - you're getting all that's good in every breath. 45 - 75m starting out. You may: sweat, tremble, spasm, clench jaw, cry, need to breathe rapidly. After ur soul will be nearer ur body

  • someone else has stumbled upon the same idea, Mr. Hansen. Some Marc Sorenson EdD. There is a youtube video..or two. It is called "How can vitamin D affect depression" in case you wanted to know

  • I wonder about the high levels of vitamin A in cod liver oil. I've read that high vitamin A counteracts the effects of vitamin D. Why would more vitamin D absorb from cod liver oil than an oil cap of D3?

  • Tanning salons do not increase vit D! Its the wrong wavelength!

  • @ouroboros555 Tanning salons DO increase vitamin D. (Tangpricha et al, 2004). They produce about 5% UVB which is the same as the sun and what is necessary for vitamin D production.

  • I live in a tropical country which most of the year is hot sun. I am exposed to the sun daily at least 15 mins getting to school and maybe more in traffic back home in a car with no AC. My depression is very high, idk that the sun helps any cos I used to hit the beach every weekend and I was still depressed for the most part. Anyways, I am going to try taking the vitamins and get back to you on how it goes.

  • Nice job Travis. You genuinely seem to want to HELP, as opposed to being greedy like many "gurus" out there. I wonder if this can help with other mood disorders, like Anxiety.

I do worry about tanning beds though, as UV is the major contributor to skin aging and skin cancer.

  • Did u know there has been quite a lot of research about the effect of FISH OIL on depression? . Statistically , countries with a high rate of fish consumption eg Japan , have much lower incidence of depression. The connection though is NOT thought to be vitamin D- but a particular protein called EPA, which is a type of acid. There have been astonishing results in cases of the SEVEREST forms of depression where anti depressants have had no effect. Vitamin D could well be important factor though

  • Does this apply to bipolar as well (or any other mental disorder) or is this just for "simple depression".

  • I don't know to much about english language so I can't understand so much about your theory so I need a favor, can you translate this videos to spanish or put subtitles in this language or at least subtitles in english?. Thanks.

  • I honestly don't know what to say...Thank you Mr B.-Kent United Kingdom

  • hmm i dont know how vitamin D can just cure someones depression. when i clicked on this i assumed you would be giving tips on breaking negative thinking habits, or finding inspiration and motivation. but since his a chemical cure i hope it works.

  • I feel the need to mention the dangers of tanning beds in relation to skin cancer. I suffer from basal cell carcinoma on a regular basis and I blame part of this problem on sun beds when I was younger. Sun beds are bad if used in the long term and sun damage is a danger if you use them.

  • I believe you are on to something :) It's crazy frustrating how depression is so complex, but I feel like you're gonna help sort it out. You're doing great, keep up the work

  • Thanks for the vid! you may have sad, seasonal affective disorder. its what your describing. they have light lamps you can buy to use instead of going to a tanning bed. they give you the light you need without damaging your skin.

  • side effects were from the Prozac coming out of your system. it can take up to a year for medication to fully leave your body. it gets stored in the fat.

  • vitamin d is good it helps ure circulatory brain nervous and your bones to absorb calcium there is fluoride in american tap water which is definitely not a good thing for your bone brains (pineal gland) thyroid fluoride displaces the iodine in your thyroid you must think positive, and eat balanced and so forth take sunshine for your vitamind much more natural

  • I live in Tucson Arizona, the tons of sunlight and big sky certainly helps, but I am still grappling pretty hard...

I don't want to be a "Debbie Downer". Perhaps I'm still not getting enough D.

  • I have been fighting depression and chronic insomnia, I am on prozac - tried everything, acupuncture, herbs, aromatherapy, homeopathy, nothing works! Daylight savings time throws off all my rhythms. I take Vitamin D already but the hard pill and take fish oil....I am deperate. I found your ideas helpful.....

  • The links to your papers and your website dont work... could you please update them?. I'm quite interested.

  • Hi Travis,

very entresting and informative video, Im sure that alot of open minded people will benefit from this, even if it would be a placebo effect, Im not sure people would mind as long as it delivers.

Thank you for sharing, Ill defenetly give it a try :D

  • vitamin d deficiency usually goes hand in hand with magnesium deficiency which increases inflammation. i found that another way to greatly improve brain function is a strict low carb diet and bvitamins. the noonoo cycle by dr. pall is a very interesting approach to all chronic diseases and also explains the general feeling of being sick. no inflammation and allergies without NO (nitrous oxide). wish you all the best.

  • interesting video..i've suffered with depression etc... Watch the movie 'It's a Wonderful Life' starring James Stewart...or watch some comedy....Monty Python,Tommy Cooper, The Simpsons......Laugh! Smile! Sing! Dance!Move!

we cannot fix the world in a day..

we cannot fix ourselves in a day...

but we can try and we can play.....

we people burden ourselves with too much...we have complicated our lives...

appreciate life with a childish sense of wonder........

  • Hi Travis...thanks for posting this video, it's given me hope. I am going to try this and let you know the result. Thanks again :)

  • Interesting video. I've heard of the cod liver oil theory before, but think the ordinary daily dose I take may not be enough. I think the sun can play a massive part in mood stimulation. Living in Britain can make for quite gloomy winters which has been compounded by the run of poor summers we have had in recent years. My depression was in remission for about 10 years, but I am beginning to wonder whether it has been triggered again by the weather. Thanks again for your insights.

  • Are you sure you,re cured? you never smiled once or appeared happy

  • He does suffer from depretion, and if its a cronic desease, he wont be dancing of joy, but keeping it under control is a big plus.

  • i think ive realised how i overcame depression ! add me if u want

  • Comment removed

  • good job on the vid, im happy that there are people like you who care enough to try and help others. thanks

  • I can't take cod liver oil because I am a vegetarian. I take the hard Vit D pills every day but they don't help me at all. I will try the tanning beds tho'. Thanks.

  • thanks for taking the time to put this together. i have been a depressive for 40 years(i'm 49) and i will do as you suggest and let you know the results. very intersting!

  • How was your result ?

  • Thanks for the video. I've suffered from depression ever since I can recall (I'm 26 now). Not long ago I had my iron levels tested due to severe tiredness. The doctor also suggested a vitamin D test, as Vit D had recently been linked to fatigue. My tests actually showed I was rather low in Vit D. So I'm starting on some supplements and will report back of any change to my depression.

  • @minxym1 Hello, been a while but would like to say that my depression is gone now! I never thought the day would come! I must say I am now one of the happiest people I know. My Vit D levels were 26. My doctor said the highest it should be is 175 with the lowest being 100. Not sure in what measurements he was talking about. I encourage people who are feeling down to get a very simple blood test from your GP to check Vit D levels. Thank you so much for the video. It provided much encouragement!

  • you'd feel good if you were rollin ;]

  • Very interesting take on depression, sometimes the basic things work the best. What is your take on people with naturally darker skin? Would they need a higher dose in the tanning bed?

I'm a darked skinned man who fights with depression.

    Law

  • Check it out on google... I'm pretty sure that if ur white, then you need 15 mins a day, if you are really really dark, then you need something as ridiculous as 1 hour or something before you get the same benefit, but yes I'm sure that you need more than white folks, but yer just double check exactly how much it is.

  • thanks i will try to get as much sun as i can and hopfully it helps

your a lot of help for me and my friend

    so again thank you

  • I think this theory is very inconclusive. (not that I dont appreciate your sharing it). The fact is this reduces depression to soley biological factors. And I admit, sometimes it is attributed to this. However I truely believe that cognitive disturbances are the real culprit.

  • Thanks mate, this video is excellent, you are a star... you broke things down and made it very easy to understand..

All the best in getting your research finished and your web site up, you are very needed.

  • thank you, that was really informative. Im sick and tired of cheesy repeats about depression.

  • Living in Washington state, Sunlight (or lack of) can be a depressant in itself. I have noticed people around me tend to turn on more lights. One ting about your video that gives hope, is willingness to reach out and communicate. this I believe is as importaint to taking hold of depression as artificial sunlight and vitamin :D

  • I have used light therapy extensively, but find it to be in effective. I know it helps some people so I encourage people to try it, but for someone like me it just simply didn't have a significant effect. Thanks for the input :)

  • You may want to try light box therapy. It uses intense light that mimics the sun, and it's been used since the 80's to treat seasonal depression because it doesn't expose your skin to the damage that UV light does. That said, you don't get the vitamin D, but since you're taking supplements you're more than making up for it. My father takes coral calcium with vitamin D in it because the calcium causes your body to more readily absorb vitamin D.

Food for thought. Great videos, thank you!

  • Do you not think the Omega 3 in the oil is the answer?

  • Actually The Cod Liver Oil I recommend doesn't have much Omega 3's. As well as the maximum benefit with the people that I work with has always come from the tanning beds. I am reasonably confidant that the vitamin D is active ingredient in this experiment.

  • Thanks for this, I'm having a hard time. I live now in Singapore and when depressed which is more n more often i close the curtains n windows n prefer the dark...wonder why that is!! i'll definatley try to make a point of going out more.. plenty sun here!

  • Actually the Gel Pills don't have a taste at all. So its not yummy, or yummy :) just simple to take!

  • eww codlver is not yummy... but watevs

  • No, actually, you started to make sense. I think your precise instructions might help lots of people.

  • its cald sad syndrom... ive heard of it in magazines... ur so smart... im a bit iffy about tanning salons... but mi parents are making me take vitamins icluding cod liver oil.... let me know when u do further studys this is really interesting thanksxxx

  • fish related stuff has fish oil which is good for your brain somehow... i forget... but yer... also bananas help i heard... tomatos have endorphines in them, vitamin b is a destressing vitamin so take that as well... but yer i digress... fish oil is what important in cod liver id imagine... and btw its yummy :)

  • Fish oil is good for your brain, but the point isn't to help your brain. Since the theory is based on depression being a immune/body thing, the vitamin D is whats needed to calm your body, not your brain.
