@theantiredneck Thats what kawasaki was originally claiming prior to release that it had 200hp but its actually like 186 or something, still a monster bike but the BMW s1000rr is still the liter bike to beat.
The Desmosedici RR is like so many Italian things simply BEAUTIFUL and a great bike. The V4 has abit less power than the S1000RR, probably is better to accelerate out of the curves... but I believe its all a matter of taste as up there in the superbike clouds things are ALL near perfect..

I was on Venice Blvd in Los Angeles. Windows up, stereo on, stopped at a traffic light. I could hear an engine rev and thought it was a supercar with open exhaust. I turned down the stereo to hear it better. The light turned green and I saw it was a Desmosedeci pulling away. Nothing I've heard sounds quite like it, not just loud, but deep and raspy. Awesome!
My boss has this bike and he says it's so powerful that he's afraid to open her up! I haven't ridden it yet but it has a great sounding bark to it (it's LOUD)! It's a shame that he's too busy to take her out much..

I think it's so cool and smart that Ducati has basically put their Moto GP bike on the streets for sale. I wish other companies would do the same. I'd love to Have Kawasaki's MotoGP screamer in my garage next to the Normal ZX-10. I'd also like to see Yamaha's MotoGP R1 on the streets aswell! I think they should all give this option to the public, by putting them on the market. Smart Move Ducati, and to think I used to hate this brand back in the day!

I don't know. Maybe you're right. The magazine "Moto73" is Hollands top motorcycle mag. They tested the RSV4, S1000RR, the ZXR10, the GSXR1000, the Fireblade and the R1 (all 2010). And the BMW won.
The desmo is the fastest on the circuit (of all roeadlegal bikes), but it's horrible to drive it through towns or suburbian areas. Like a Formula 1 car.
Only bike i can think of that can beat a desmo on the circuit is the RSV4 Biaggi Replica, but it's not roadlegal. Hot bike though!

I love the tech and craftsmanship, the exhaust is beautifully crafted with neat little venturi to speed things along. But, are they really all that great? How come the average italian bike has no miles on it? It can be 10 years old and not have 5K on it, this is what I see so often. If they are so goddamn great why don't people ride the things? My old BMW GS has 98K on it, it's not zoot lookin but I never have a sport bike stay with me when engine isn't king and it's twisty time.

This bike should've never cost $72K. It's barely more powerful than the 180HP 1198R which is $40K. The D16RR is not as overpriced as one would think... and especially not to keep ghetto wannabe's away (the fact that these bikes are hardcore already eliminates the posers). Remember this was cutting edge technology when it came out in 2006... nowadays, not so much. But a bike that is currently capable of outperforming a WSBK, stock, is something, and having it built four years ago, is even more impressive. But yeah ghetto sucks
Actually no. Your R1's won't beat this bike. Maybe the 1198S or a 999rr. But this is different, asshole. It is insulting to anybody that has the knowledge and literacy to appreciate the marvel that Ducati has built, that you dare to say such pathetically stupid things. No stock R1 will ever beat this bike. The K9 R1 barely pushes 170Hp while this bike, in 2006 made 200Hp. It also weighs less and has a vertically stiffer chassis, better aerodynamics by far, brakes, and suspension geometry.
Yes absolutely. But yeh see, the thing is, when you compare bikes, you compare BIKES. Riders are something separate... but the fact is that the same guy riding both bikes around a track, will be getting lower lap times on the D16RR. But yes you're right about Rossi beating you (or me, or any common rider) on almost any liter bike. I say almost any because there's liter bikes out there that aren't competitive superbikes.
Its actually not an exact copy,but close.Its based on Ducati's GP bike in many ways, but the one thing that is quite a bit different is the engine. Go have a read on Ducati's site for all the info.
Yamaha have announced that from next year they will be selling the M1 moto gp replica, although expect it around a similar price to the desmo. Sad but true. Kawa have also brought out the ZX-RR which is their replica, and the GSX-RR will be avilable from 2011. So don't go out and buy the Desmo. Wait for a bike THAT CAN WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP ATLEAST

I'd buy a BMW S1000RR
Dutch motorcycle Magazine "Moto73" measured a top speed of 305 km/h and 205 BHP !! BMW claim 193 BHP, but it's got 12 more on the official dyno.
An Aprillia RSV4R is nice also.
On the streets nothing beats a BMW S1000RR ABS, but on the circuit the desmo is problably quicker

@DolleHengst Probably quicker?? Let me reorient you, fanboy. The s1000 has no midrange the mass power only comes in at the highest revs. On the track the RSV4R with less HP owns it every time. Now the Desmo is a 200hp GP6 MotoGP replica bike. It's in another league.

Funny, streets of willow is one of the worst tracks I could imagine for that bike. Use a real racetrack! I mean come on, part of the track is a parking lot. At LEAST go to the big track next door.

I love the tech and craftsmanship, the exhaust is beautifully crafted with neat little venturi to speed things along. But, are they really all that great? How come the average italian bike has no miles on it? It can be 10 years old and not have 5K on it, this is what I see so often. If they are so goddamn great why don't people ride the things? My old BMW GS has 98K on it, it's not zoot lookin but I never have a sport bike stay with me when engine isn't king and it's twisty time.

i've a MV Agusta F4 1000R, for long travel it's not good really, but if you live in america you can drive this bike better becouse the streets it's so very large...in italy i must drive in a circuit with this bike. racer bike haven't comfort, if you buy this bike type, you must know it :)))

you're welcome ! i had for two years SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K8. beautiful bike and very quality materials. R6 it's a great bike and if you take it, you take a excellent moto :) anyway i think that if you begins now to drive a racer bike, the best choices are suzuki or yamaha. first bike it's fast and easy to drive, second bike it's very beatiful but it's more difficult to drive than suzuki,honda ora kawasaki...my personal experience say this :)

actually, the looks of the r6 is what i really like,.. it was really awesome, its so sleek, compact, with a high angled pointed tail, it really looks awesome,. my current bike is an underbone bike, a honda xrm rs 125, this is really good for beginners like me^_^,.. so when i feel ready and have some money, i will take my r6 then^_^,.

This bike should've never cost $72K. It's barely more powerful than the 180HP 1198R which is $40K. Ducati only makes these outrageous prices to keep certain types of people away from their brand. ie: lower class, poor taste ghetto types that mostly always buy Jap bikes because they are affordable. Does Ducati discriminate? Of course they do! Ferrari does they same! but would you like to see a lower priced bike with lil Wayne on it the same way trash in this country has degraded top name brands?

While I have to agree that Lil Wayne would be a shame for Ducati... The D16RR is not as overpriced as one would think... and especially not to keep ghetto wannabe's away (the fact that these bikes are hardcore already eliminates the posers). Remember this was cutting edge technology when it came out in 2006... nowadays, not so much. But a bike that is currently capable of outperforming a WSBK, stock, is something, and having it built four years ago, is even more impressive. But yeah ghetto sucks

Actually no. Your R1's won't beat this bike. Maybe the 1198S or a 999rr. But this is different, asshole. It is insulting to anybody that has the knowledge and literacy to appreciate the marvel that Ducati has built, that you dare to say such pathetically stupid things. No stock R1 will ever beat this bike. The K9 R1 barely pushes 170Hp while this bike, in 2006 made 200Hp. It also weighs less and has a vertically stiffer chassis, better aerodynamics by far, brakes, and suspension geometry.

Yes absolutely. But yeh see, the thing is, when you compare bikes, you compare BIKES. Riders are something separate... but the fact is that the same guy riding both bikes around a track, will be getting lower lap times on the D16RR. But yes you're right about Rossi beating you (or me, or any common rider) on almost any liter bike. I say almost any because there's liter bikes out there that aren't competitive superbikes.

Its actually not an exact copy,but close.Its based on Ducati's GP bike in many ways, but the one thing that is quite a bit different is the engine. Go have a read on Ducati's site for all the info.

Yamaha have announced that from next year they will be selling the M1 moto gp replica, although expect it around a similar price to the desmo. Sad but true. Kawa have also brought out the ZX-RR which is their replica, and the GSX-RR will be avilable from 2011. So don't go out and buy the Desmo. Wait for a bike THAT CAN WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP ATLEAST
