  • Priceless face @ 1:36

  • @0126578 yes except in my opinion I like the austin city limits version wayyy better

  • @edguilherme2 this was shot on october 28 of 2007 and " where the light is" was shot that december. So these concerts were pretty close to each other. I remember that this episode of austin city limits premiered around december 12 shortly after "where the light is" was filmed. As you can tell im a HUGE jm fan and have to say that this austin limits show is one of his best live recordings ever! He also played gravity on this episode and it is the best version EVER, but is sadly not on youtube :(

  • @hansoulofull Yeah the version of I don't trust myself (intro of the song) compares with the version of WTLI

  • Where can you get this track from?

  • 240p... Eventually we met again.

  • when it was? after or before where the light is?

  • look likes i'll be visiting pbs.org haha

  • This just made all the deaf people hearing again

  • man I would love to see John and Richie Kotzen jam together

  • @MrEmotionalShred this would be the dream..

  • genius

  • 7:34 to 7:54 is On Repeat...

  • Love that mellow slide solo by Robbie McIntosh at 4:06. Best version of Vultures i´ve ever heard and Johns voice is on fire as his guitar always is.

  • 4:25 oh my god.

    *oh my johnmayer

  • Shat myself at 5:34.

I'm at work. Tell me what to do.

  • @mjpyeatt YOU CAN WATCH JOHN MAYER AT WORK?!

  • @mjpyeatt

    I shat myself from 0:00 till 8:36.

    And continued after.

    I REALLY need help.

  • The saxophone makes all the difference!

  • epic

  • i hate guys which think john mayer is bad JUST DONT GO ON HIS MUSIC PAGE!!

  • EPICCCCCCCCCCCC

  • This is absolutely ridiculous,John Mayer's Music is untouchable.

i can't say any more,i'm speechless. Holy Cow that was Sick.

  • sex

  • bass playing is actually terrible in comparison to pino palladino's version, he's got so much feel and soul!

  • @funkadel1c lol, biggest bandwagon i've ever seen. yes pino pallido has a ton of soul and feel, but you obviously don't know shit about bass playing if you think DeLa sucks and/or lacks feel and soul.

  • @bjhMus1C im not saying in general, just this song :) personal preferance i suppose, i just prefer how palladino plays on this song, that's all

  • @funkadel1c sure, but let's not disparage the greatness of DeLa

  • @bjhMus1C disparage! excellent word. The greatness is indeed high

  • by far their best performance of vultures.

  • 4:47-51 is just the best

  • Anybody think that this was a kind of rehearsal performance for Where the Light Is?? Most of the band arrangements seem similar... except for Vultures.. that intro actually blew my mind.

  • "Power is made by pure manipulation, so we keep on runnin to admit intimidation"

  • this was on my birthday :)

  • I've been waiting for this to come back on you tube thank you.

  • How does he get that tone?? What pedals??

  • @Beeeeeeenn Keely Compressor and an amazing Two Rock amp. Solos probably have a tiny bit of Keely Katana boost on em and the delay is most likely his Way Huge Aqua Puss.

  • this song is so groovie and fantabulous that it should be illegal!

  • J.J. Johnson, kickass drummer from Austin.........

  • thats a bad man right there

  • I can't believe this is a LIVE recording! It sounds so freggin' good!

  • David LaBruyere, great New Orleans bassist.

  • awsome bass....

  • woah goeffry, how did the banks not find out you're an amazing guitarist and harmony singer?

(i know who the guy fyi)

  • i think robbie mcintosh is a genious aswell!

  • 4 people are deaf.

  • @BlackStarShotZzClan

Yeah and 2 more of their deaf friends.

  • @Ugazful check out his video for vultures in "where the light is" at the end for intense guitar slapping action. seriously look at it.

  • at 8:00 is he slapping a guitar? i've heard of bass-slapping but guitar-slapping?

  • @Ugazful check neon, the riff is based around slap on the low E chord tuned down to C

  • slick rick

  • This guy is absolutely amazing:)

  • I really love how they collab on this one.

  • bup bup bup bup bup

  • @ guitarplayer1994 you're wrong haha. It's just simply in f# minor. He solos in the f# minor pentatonic scale.

  • @joskam092 technically its dorian.. i was wrong

  • especially his choices vocally are great, new way to sing the song!

  • The sax-solo is just freakin amazing!!

  • from 4:25 to 5:25..just pure magic. gets you in trance totally.

  • Songs for musicians to learn from :)

  • I wish I could get an MP3 version...OH MAN.

  • This song is in E right ?

  • @antony5linteau no its in f#-minor

you´ll understand why if you play the riff ;)

  • @aronkarmusic not exactly, he's playing f# dorian, that's just f# minor with d# instead of d ;)

  • @guitarplayer1994 yeah, youre right! sorry for my mistake.. so the minor key would be c#, for anyone that doenst know what dorian is ;)

  • I keep coming back to this. The sax-solo, the intro, the guitar, it`s all A+ work!!

  • The Mayer is simply out of this world, obsessed with this song, altho i have to admit he looks funny at 2:39-2:57 lol

  • Bob Reynolds beats them all!

  • 7:54 to 8:10 I'm pretty sure John Mayer is the only person on this planet who can pull that off.

  • Now this is how music should be...LIVE AND IN COLOR...Sax solo was super sick. This whole thing was a work of art...of course John brought his A+ GAME...

  • is his voice autotuned? i've listened to belief, i don't trust myself and stop this train from this concert, and his voice sounds flawless in every piece. he hits every note perfectly.

  • @jsh842708 Yes it is, I've posted this a couple times and get harsh comments back. Thank god someone else notices it. It probably wasn't even his choice thou Most tv apperances now they use Mics with auto-tune built in !

  • @JG129 if it was auto tuned you would have heard all the pitch corrections this performance was just one of the instances where all the planets aligned for a great vocal performance...and while his voice was spectacular 99% of the time there were a few off pitch notes believe me I have perfect pitch

  • @ScottLowry41988 I'm telling you its auto tune. 100% where do u hear his pitch go off?

  • @JG129 I would agree with you, JM is not the most gifted singer but he's hell of a guitar player

  • Looks like a kind of an experimental concert. He played a lot of his numbers on a different way. Focking amazing.

  • @0126578 You know, I didn't think of it like that but I would probably have to agree with you, experimental. But just by judging how awesome this sounds, he should do more experimenting.

  • That was a c-o-l-o-s-s-a-l performance of music!

    My favorite Vultures!

  • Drop the beat !

  • easily one of the best versions of this groovy song

  • Genius!

  • Vultures originally was a great song. But live...the magic comes to life. He seems very natural, and the song is fantastic. Add in a 2 minute long intro, extra guitar jamming time, and a saxophone solo, and you have the best song he's ever performed live

  • stupendous performance and musicianship!!

  • This is the best musical performance i have ever seen. John mayer is a true musical genius, you can tell through his improvsiations, his false setto, his lyrics, his delivery, his stage presence, his godly guitar talent. This man was born to perform

  • @blume6546 False setto? Lol you mean falsetto?

  • fun song!!!!!

  • he always uses the golden strat for this song

  • @asdfcnd There's plenty of videos online of him using the sunburst signature one...

  • is there any way to get a recording of this? Yes I agree, this is by far my favorite version of Vultures!

  • D/L Audacity and there is a feature to record from your soundcard. You can then convert that to Mp3

  • go google youtube mp3 converter!

  • Definitive, the best version of this song LOL!

  • awesome ;)

  • sick guitar. sick voice. sick skills. sick music style

  • @Cornaboy22 nothing for sick ears

  • fuck yeah! incredible and funky performance! i would seriously ejaculate if i manage to play this some day in the future xD

  • gold

  • Absolutely class.

  • 7:44 FUnk O.D

  • sax went off on one BIG STYLEY'Z

  • falsetto is DEAD on...which is a rarity for john, ha. love it.

  • thats a badass sax yall!

  • This is the best i've ever heard him perform this song!!

  • 3:35-7, love that little thingy ;)

  • 4:27 great melody variation

  • i know! his cool synchronized hands are great n'all ;)

  • from 2:38 his facial expressions are BRILLIANT

  • hahaha thats nothin for John, lol... his guitar face is usually pretty epic.

  • @minimattx hahaha XD

  • Just like John, to make another awesome intro.

  • where is this performance?

  • DeLa please come back!

  • @soohungry who is DeLa?

  • @soloquierosignearme The base player.

  • the former bass player David LaBreuer, not sure if i spelled his last name correctly...

  • groovy!!

  • DeLa!!!

  • Wow, the intro is epic !

  • i need to know what does he say at 4:42??

  • "power is made by pure manipulation so we keep on running to admit intimidation..."

  • ahh, many thanx man ;)

  • The best..!

  • Great song! beautiful Fender!!! weird vocals, but in some way interesting :D

  • does anyone know the significance of the capo he has on his mic stand?

  • In case he needs a capo?

  • This is from Austin City Limits and he uses it in the acoustic set.

  • I love the way he takes a jam and turns it into a song. Very talented musician. Not bad vocally either. Rock on John!

  • This just makes you want to have a jam session

  • the greatest way to start vultures?

    drop the beat,

  • the most genius way to an intro?

  • thats a disgusting saxophone solo!!!

  • disgusting as in good? or disgusting as in bad? haaha

  • he means good

  • disgusting as in good! Verry veryy good. Bob is a funky man!

  • that intro is the best jam theyve done, purely for the scat-type singing johns doin. pure gold, like his strat :P

  • So inspiring

  • he's so beast

  • looooooove his voice <3

  • word!!

  • Im down with ya Bro.!

  • John Mayer's vocal intro has a nice 70's Doobie Brothers vibe to it. VERY cool :)

..anyone out there feel that vibe?

  • Groovalicious....

  • Don't know why, but the whole thing just makes me giggly

  • ...absolutely!

  • giggly? Thats just the reaction to the sexy thats talkin to ya :P

  • I guess, ... no, it was just the music.

  • Totally Killer Tone!

  • This whole performance was sooo tight. I wish this was available on DVD:(

  • its back up.

  • That intro was.... Sick! does anyone no wat gig this is? cheers

  • sure 02ajack, it was at Austin city limits in '08

  • FUCKING amazing

  • I love the tone on the intro to this version

  • that was delicious(mayer +sax+intro)

  • my favorite version of vultures

  • marvelous.

  • Without a doubt the very best version of this song....maybe the best set of Mayer's too. Agree?

  • is there a dvd of this? If there is, where can you buy it?

  • its not from a dvd - its the austin city limits show from a one off tv show

  • i really don't understand how this song isn't in the top 25 songs of all time

  • Great falsetto chorus.
