You people need to listen to yourselves then realize passion overides even steely fingers.Arrau has it all plus the integrity not to just record a lackluster etude! Often he excites well trained pianist/musicians for reasons that will elude most!!!
Arrau is the most human of pianists, that is, you hear the voice of humanity in the music he plays, there is a background story that he brings out. The sounds are not mechanical but alive. JMO
No one has ever played more SOLIDLY than Arrau. He had absolute command of his material. This is the perfect STUDENT performance. It has everything but passion, insight and spontaneity.
You are no doubt referring to his ping-pong playing, and you are no doubt a ping-pong coach, but you don't understand; Arrau was famous more for his piano playing than for his ping-pong playing, and your discussion about his ping-pong playing is not really pertinent here, you see
I really agree at 0:53-0:56 and 0:59-1:02, where he ends the phrases with a accent after having made a short and really strange rallentando. Hehe, it really sounds unnatural.
this is a slow version of this etude and a little bit scholastic. Needs more energy.
