I Have the EJ-200 and the sound I get from it is outstanding; Of course, the Gibson J-200 is always going to be the better guitar, which is to be expected considering its over 3k more expensive! I love my EJ-200 and, I don't think the sound difference is that far off unlike the price!

@tynieboyz I agree. I'd say the EJ is just a cheaper variant, not a bargain bin knock off that just looks the same. And I've compared the sounds and it's really similar. I can't wait to get my new EJ in sunburst for christmas!

The Gibson Super Jumbo SJ 200 came out in 1937 I think, not in the 50's.

hi there, is there a difference between an ej 200 and ej 200ce? i know ones acoustic/electric, but who do they both sound unplugged?

ce: c means cutaway (lower bout); e, as you know, means electric. I've tried them unplugged, and they sound THIN. Try to find a 1970's Alvarez 5055, which is the lawsuit model of the Gibson J200. I just got one for $200, and they're EXACTLY like playing the real Gibson J200. A MUCH better choice than these epiphones.

@bumsdrums - yeah i'd go with that, i spent £1500 on a gibson hummingbird and was not impressed. Then brought one of these epiphone ej-200 's for £300 and it ismiles better, action, feel, sound everything! Gibsons are a massive rip off for what they are so much i'm thinking of trying to flog mine if i could find someone to take it
