Is that a yairi alvarez DY-85 in the background? Love the yairis. Excellent guitars. I also have a 1966 D-18 although not in as good a conditon as your 00-18. Your songs are all well done. Appreciate the instruction. Thanks for posting.
Wow! I just learned this from watching you and listening to J.Hurts "complete Studio Recordings". You do a wonderful job and put a lot of feeling and soul into it. Thanks!
mississippi john is great, i love his sound, good stuff and make sure those birds dont get to crazy in you back yard or you will have a poop everywhere, hahha
I come back to your videos again and again. What a player, and what a voice - it reminds me a little of Johnny Cash. Anyway, I sure do hope you put some more of your great playing on youtube. You are as always such an inspiration!! Thank you!
How did you learn this?? I can't find tabs anywhere for this song. And all the detailed fingerpicking hammerons and pulloffs are too hard for me to pick up just by watching and listening... I'll keep trying.
Nice rendition of a John Hurt arrangement. Is that a Martin 0018? I know you also play a Yairi dred. I play one too and they're wonderful, but I'm looking for a smaller axe for fingerpicking.
Awsome, I'm 14, alsmost 15 now and I play for about 9 yeras guitar now.. Hope I would be just like you so I can play for my grandchildren or something.. Go on, I love your guitar playing!
You've got a great style of playing, and I really enjoy your stuff, especially the John Hurt songs and Piedmont-style playing..BTW, Alice's Restaraunt sounds like it was influenced heavily by Gary Davis. Of course I didn't know who Gary Davis was until a few years ago, but oh well, I'm rambling. Thanks for the great stuff!
I enjoy your playing so much. It really inspires me to pick up the guitar (nearly) every day. I would love to hear your version of Railroad Bill some time (OK, that was a thinly disguised request!)
BRAVO! I can't express in words how much I enjoy listening to you play! I wish I could play like that! Please keep'em coming, and thank you for sharing your gift with us!
YouTube is currently experiencing technical problems with the message system, so I am posting this on all my videos. If you have subscribed, thank you very much. I'm sure YouTube's staff is doing everything possible to fix the problem.
This almost reminds me of the Uncle Charlie & Teddy album by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song breaks. I almost sit and wait for "I knew a man Bojagles, and he'd dance for you". I just love this real down home deep hearted sound. I still sometimes tear up when I hear "The dog up and dyed", but then I put on House at Pooh Corner, and Im happy again. Real music comes from the heart not the bank. Play on
Glad to see you've got a new video up. Terrific as usual. Question: did you actually start by playing classical? Looks like you have a mix of classical and traditional finger picking (bar instead of thumb fret, hold it classical, but put a finger on the box for stability).
Actually, i picked up the use of the stabilizing right hand pinky from watching Chet. Later, I found that's fine for electric but touching the top of an acoustic seriously dampens the sound. I lift the finger when I need the treble strings to ring.
That's just how I learned - watching and listening to Chet Atkins and James Taylor. Back in July some YouTube staffer in a moment of failed wisdom (hehe)featured the 'This-n-That' video so many viewers got to see it. I have more guitars but I need to get a few more guitar stands to get em all in the picture. :)
Great job as always. I've gotta tell you as a guitar player, it was your This-n-That video (Windy and Warm in particular) that inspired me to focus more on my finger picking. I also used your video to teach myself how to play it, although I don't play it nearly as well as you. I can only think what a pleasure it must be for anyone lucky enough to sit and listen to you play live. Keep up the great work.
PS: I'm also extremely jealous of your guitar collection.
Great as usual. 5 stars. I'm a subscriber of your videos. When I saw a new video of yours, I was like "YAY!!!" I really look forward to seeing more of your videos. Many many thanks.

Very nice. We need to get some locals to mic you up better - especially your voice. You are like a fine wine - better with age because of the fuller expression that comes with it. I appreciate your apparent clean living, humility, and love for life. - Don Mohr, Sherman Oaks, CA
John, I have been waiting on the edge of my seat for you to post another video and the time has finally come!! Beautiful, the sound of that Martin can NOT be beat! Fantastic, hopefully myself and the YouTube community won't have to wait so long for the next one eh!? Looking forward to more of your inspirational playing, hopefully one day I can fingerpick with such grace and ease!
This style of fingerpicking just drives me insane with JOY! Sheer joy! Im a long time Doc Watson fan and its great to see your vids Sir. Look forward to them always.
