  • I first heard this song as a small child on a visit to India in the early 70's. Our neighbours had a TV and half the village had gathered to watch the Taj Mahal movie. I have always adored this song and the great love story that has endured the centuries. Lata's beautiful voice has kept their story alive. Thank you.

  • @poissondelamer-what has the language got to do with Lataji's beautiful voice. She sings beautifully no matter what language she sings in. Besides this movie required songs in Urdu.BenPoraf Yusef said he didn't understand a word just LOVED the voice.so he was praising the god given gift song the language.

  • she is 80 yrs old but still singing isnt it magic..

  • your comment has nothing to do with this video. first, she's not 80 here. and today at 80 she's not singing playback for movies. her voice has greatly deteriorated, it's hoarse and thick. do you have proof she's still singing at 80?

  • @bjornsiborgsi - yes she is still singing at 80!see her latest song from movee Jail! :P :P now speak!

  • hey goldy, let me take you to school, you ignorant village indian. horse is the animal. "hoarse" means a scratchy, airy voice. now do you feel like a fuckin idiot?

  • haha "hey goldy"... so hillarious...ur funny....well my grandparents are from some sort of the same village i guess ur reffering to... so u do know horse is an animal...its good to know that u know ur siblings from the zoo ;)....and...i know wat it meant...due to context i wasnt sure which u were refferin to :P...also....i actually dont have to feel like one hahahha.....plus i wudnt know how to feel like one with out u expressing me how u have felt for the rest of ur life? :P

  • Great video, even without the normal accompanying instruments

  • she is one of the best singer of the world

  • Divine Lata at her Prime. She has given so much to this world. God bless her always. We are so fortunate to have all this technology to capture her voice.

  • I agree and dissagree. If you listen to songs like Aap Ki Nazron Ne in its original form to her live perfomance of it in 1997 her voice has change. Its still magnifisent but its just change some.

  • yes you are right. Her voice did changed a little. I honestly think her voice sounded a little sweeter in the later days! As they say older the wine better the taste!

  • There is only one Lata and we Indians are fortunate to have her !

  • @BenPoratYusef its mean you have feel of music

  • @BenPoratYusef yes, beautyful URDU song, the national langauge of PAKISTAN.

  • @BenPoratYusef Shutup bitch, stay in ur own country.

  • @BenPoratYusef

Peace be upon you, my Israeli brother,

Nice to hear that an Israeli took interest in LATA. I can translate all her words to you word by word. Infact if you type this song in ''MOHD RAFI AND LATA JO WADA KIYA WOH. ''meaning'' The promise you have made, you have to keep that.

Listen to MOHD RAFI'S VOICE. HE WAS A GREAT SINGER.

    TC,

    Adam

  • @BenPoratYusef Hi there ...I see that some people have used abuisive tone against you.....Let me tell u this all Nationalistic (Real) Indians have the greatest respect for Israel....the person using this tone will either be a muslim or a Pakistani......so ..dont wory...they wont change.....they are assholes

  • @undy999 Sir, I also do appreciate that an Israeli has loved our beloved and beautiful voice of Lataji and posted his comment on utube. And I understand ur feelings regarding someone using an abusive tone against him. I do support you by all means. Reading the 3rd sentence on your post made me feel a bit bad. I know that many muslims and pakis are like what you commented. But sir, I am a Muslim, but I love my beloved country India and am a very great fan of Lata ji. She is the greatest.

  • wonderful song sang by the wonderful

    lady - truly nightingale.

  • Translation please....?

  • Awesome Song.

  • Regarding "all languages are beautiful" I tried to say for everybody his/her mother tong is most beautiful. As a sun I do not compare the beauty of mother with beauty of Rittik Roshan/Shah Rukh Khan's mother. Lataji was great enough to venture into Gajal, but I hardly see any so called Urdu singers trying to see Bhajans. I must say that a majority of Urdu speakers are less open in embracing other languages or other culture, if I put it very mildly.

  • And who cares? Urdu and Hindi are dialects of the same language, called Hindustani! Look it up in any language encyclopedia. Why do idiots forget that Urdu is an Indian language, born in Delhi, and Agra, based on Khari Boli. Indians can use their languages anyway they want!

  • nice one im loving this lmao

  • brilliant voice, but did anyone notice Lataji's mistake, you got to listen very carefully, sorry Lataji even you have to listen to the words from the very first version.

  • aap hi bata dijiye please

  • incarnation of goddess saraswati........ishwar ko jab gaane ka man hua to lataji ka janm hua...

  • why you have to bring the "urdu" in every place? We all know Urdu is great, so is Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu....all languages..

  • my dear friend, i am not going to fight with you on this trivial issue. neither i am expecting another reply. I myself like Urdu a lot. What I am trying to say is neither Urdu nor Hindi stand on their own without support from Persian/Arbic or Sanskrit.

  • Comment removed

  • And who are you? Last I checked, Urdu didn't have you as an official idiotic spokesperson. Urdu is a dialect of Hindustani, just like Hindi is. Get an education.

  • LMAO....urdu shares alot from arabic and farsi or pashto ...haha get an edumafacation! :P lol no harsh feelings

  • I'm educated in Urdu, Urdu has borrowed lots of vocabulary from Farsi and Arabic, and not from Pashto, and most of the vocabulary is mispronounced, Iranians (Persians) and Arabs cringe every time they hear Pakistanis speak "Urdu", believe me they reallllly don't care about Pakistan, even Afghans hate Pakistan and Pakistanis.

  • hahah ur educated in urdu? is that urdu or english wat i jus read? o sorry...read...is also same in the present and past tense in english jus in case u didnt know... ;) tru about borrowin words from various langs...i wudnt know and care less who hates who...as the world is and will eventually come to an end....

  • Bro I am indian and I speak hindi , but urdu is beautiful too and it is part of our culture ..first of all farsi is much better than arabic and urdu is very beautiful cuz it combines aspects of many languages, also today peopole in the cities in india speak a mixture of urdu and hindi cuz it is a melting pot.

  • Your opinion that Farsi is better than Arabic is just that, your opinion, and its irrelevant to the discussion on Hindustani, Hindi or Urdu.

  • Pure... I'm a bigger fan of Asha Bhosle, but I can't deny Lata's greatness.

  • This is amazing. Her voice is clear as a bell. Sends shivers down my spine. Was this a full concert for the BBC or just a one song insert?

  • priceless!!! she is so pure so graceful. just as her gaayki

  • Just sounds like original one.

  • such treat coult be found on your channel only :)

  • world most sweet and expressive langauge URDU.

urdu gave unforgetable evergreen songs in the history of music.

  • i would say that the music directors had a bigger hand, but whatever.

  • Listening to this song in the kind of BBC mehfil shown here makes you feel as if Lata and her small orchestra have invited you into their living room and presented you with a personal gift. A priceless experience. Thank you, my friend, for posting the clip.

  • saraswati

  • lata is great and beautiful voice

  • Lataji IS IT.....period.!!!

  • personally, i think she's a beautiful lady. her voice is heavenly. :D

  • Lata has sober and a decent personality. She sings with deep emotions.

  • old is gold ....))))))

  • I thought she never married a man. But why she always puts Sindhoor. Can anyone explain me that. Sindhoor is so very holy thing only if one merry in Hindustyle with Mandap and Mantra. I really can't understand this.

  • Oh, just grow up spiderlegs1987, what's the point of having good looks if one cannot sing?

Go mind ur own biz & go back to ur Britney & her likes that have to depend on scandals to stay in news.

Great singers like Lata have talents & voice, she sings from her heart & touch our hearts... though we may not understand a word, we can feel the love & emotions in her songs.

  • ugly? Well she looks normal!! Nothing ugly about her !! :-)

  • she looks more divine and sweet to due respect to her!

  • and you, how ugly are you?

  • i don't thinks she's ugly, but what does that have to do with her singing skill? she's the greatest female singer to have lived.. so i don't quite care how she looks.

  • from all lovers of such divine songs.....today we are thank full to you from core of our heart.......

  • nice video.......thanks
