I love how he continually swings his helmet & arms like a Dominique Wilkins windmill slam dunk as he rounds the bases. It's reminiscent of Gibson's fist pump hobbling in '88. The Pirates were outscored by 28 runs over 7 games but still managed to win the series. Poor Pirates still haven't recovered from Sid Bream beating out Bonds wienie arm in '92.
The difference between this footage and today is there wasn't 50 cameramen at home plate mixed in with the players, getting in the way, and trying to ruin the moment for the winning team .
@playoffexpert1 Wasn't it Yogi Berra playing left field during this? Mickey in Center and Maris in right? Johnny Blanchard was behind the plate who called the pitch that was served up

@liduck52 Alright, hey look 6 players (one that hasn't played the whole time). Want me to name the other 3 million they haven't. You're outleagued and have no valid argument, don't get me started.
I had just turned eight when this game was played. I was in third grade in Evansville and was convinced I was the world's biggest Yankee fan. We were listening and I was brokenhearted when the Yanks lost so suddenly. Ike was leaving the White House and the Yanks had lost...the world no longer made sense!
@thomas58ish Ike was a great President the last great president this country will ever have :( I do hate the Yankees in every aspect of sports entertainment. The reason is because they destroy the game by buying players which is due to baseball not having a salary cap. ;( I just hope they go to WS and lose in 4 to the Giants ! Better yet since the economy sinks due to the worse president this country will ever have bring on a game 7 and just let history repeat itself one more time !!!!
As Harry Caray liked to say, Maz really CREAMED that one! But do you know what would be even nicer to see? A video of Maz turning a double play. Omigod! No one, and I mean NO ONE, did it better. And I saw him do it at Forbes Field once, too. Sweet!
No he didn't. That was Game 5. The Cards still had to win one more. It was Jack Clark who homered in the top of the 9th off Tom Niedenfuer in Game 6 and, with 3 more outs, got the Cards the Pennant. If the Dodgers had won those last 2 games at home, Ozzie's homer would have been a footnote. But since they're the Dodgers, they didn't.
I could have named a lot more than six.

That is a God like moment. A non home run hitter hits a walk off. none better than that.

Though the stage was smaller, Ozzie Smith was a far worse power hitter than Maz and still hit that Pennant-winning homer.
