Only in this world could Nicolas Cage win an academy award when an actor such as Albert Finney who's a million times better than Cage have never of won one.
He has such a distinctive face. In all my 42 years, I have never seen anyone who looks like him.
Such a versatile performer. Yesterday I watched 'The Entertainer' from 1960 - his first film roll. he was on the screen for only about 3 minutes, then is referred to, but not seen again. Oh well - I guess ya gotta start somewhere! Nice to see that he 'made it' in showbiz later on.
I was slightly disappointed with his performance in Under the Volcano, I had read how fabulous it was before seeing the film. I think F Murray Abraham was the deserving winner that year.
For me, his best performance is in The Dresser where he acted Tom Courtenay off the screen and he should have won the Oscar for ir. He was great in Tom Jones as well. I didn't think he deserved a nomination for Murder on the Orient Express.
@dcasey77 The Dresser is the best. The Academy Awards mean nothing because they never really pick the best actor/actress, but tend to pick sentimental favorites or politically correct people.
I know it look weird close up but the make up needs to have heavy accents. Close up he looks awful, from a distance when a performer is on stage, it highlights the muscles on the face and and helps the audience to make out facial expressions. I was in a theatre group and this was exactly how we were shown how to apply stage make up. This is just my humble opinion.

One of the finest actors to grace both stage and screen. I marvel at the precision of his abilities/technique.

He didn't get a nomination for Scrooge?!

He received a Golden Globe for Scrooge. I "think" it was made for television, and thus wouldn't be eligible for Academy Award consideration.

Awful make-up job on The Dresser.

The make-up was intentionally bad. You would know that if you watched the movie.
