  • I get a very happy feeling when i hear this song, but this sounds a little higher pitched then the one on the album

  • i always thought the beatles sang this until i heard it on the radio and saw deep purple i was like whaat ?!

  • That's because there's a part in 'A day in the life' by the Beatles that sounds just like this.

  • Which was inspired by a Beach Boys song from 'Pet Sounds'.

The lyrics are (in part) " A Children's Song". cannot rem song title.

  • Jaaaa, I remember well ! I had the single as teenie.

This was the first Deep Purple hit. I guess the most ppl don´t know.

Here in the beginning is Jon Lord´s influence very dominant. Later Richie became his strong song writer partner ( which was not bad !!).

Daaaanke fur senden und memoria !!!

  • with this and many other coverd songs, DP started 68 in Essen/Grugahalle on the "Pop and bluesfestival."

  • It's funny how once it starts playing it all comes back! This was actually one of their less noisy ones, and it's written by Joe South, all the way from Atlanta, Georgia US of A! 5*****!!

  • god this is great no one can hate deep purple

  • some people started to hear this song only cuz its the soundtrack for taking woodstock.

    its annoying.

either way i love this song.!

  • do u know if the cover of this song has a different name? because i was looking at the soundtrack for taking woodstock and i couldn't find any song named hush or any song by deep purple on it

  • I like deep purple a lot, and it's a great cover, but the highs just aren't there in this cover, and that's what made this song. Still good and Props for doing a Joe South cover, class at it's best. :)

  • same here...i heard the Taking Woodstock trailer and I had to find this song..great tune

  • I heard this in a "Taking Woodstock" commercial and I just had to track this down! Classic Tune. :)

  • started the climb on the chart 8/24/68 and peaked at #4 .... Billy Joe Royal had a version with this song too about a year earlier ...yes, Joe South penned a bunch of great tunes.....

  • I actually met Joe South in a bar I was playing in Buford GA; He was having shrimp and fries, and complimented me on my playing; Very cool, although they did have to pour him into a cab at the end of the night.

  • rock and roll...

  • 130 posts and nobody has yet given credit to the very talented Mr Joe South... who penned this brilliant number. This is one of the greatest rock songs EVER.

  • Heard the song on the "Taking Woodstock" trailer, but couldn't remember the title... And it bothered me!

    But this song is awesome.

  • yo this happened to me too!!! it started to get me pissed off hahaha

  • Same with me! haha

    Deep Purple Kicks Ass!

  • lol just saw the trailer, remembered the song, came here to download =D

  • awesome! that kind of sound just can´t be topped. remember the crackling at the start of a record, anticipation building. excellent

  • la la-la-la-la lah-la-la-la-lah!

  • na na na naa na na naa na na naaa actually

  • The best songs of the world were made in this time...here is a nice example

  • amen to that if nothing else the war caused some great music

  • I agree.

    Coincedence is ironic...

  • they are amphet kings that could rock!!!!!

  • this song always makes me happy

  • Does anyone else notice that the melody at 4:24 seconds sounds exactly like the melody at 2:48 seconds in the Beatles' "A Day in the Life"?

  • This was Deep Purples 1st release in 1968 but this was line up 1. which had Rod Evans on Vocals & Nick Simper on Bass. These 2 were fired in 1970 when Ian Gillan was asked to join but he wouldn't unless his friend Roger Glover could join (hence Simper had to be fired to)as their previous band Episode Six had just folded.

  • Amazing old rock song. One of the best ever (imho)

    C.

  • sory i had a friend and he doesn't know english very well and... i let him write that comment

  • nice video :P

  • deep purple in Rock is the best album of the group....

  • you care about their drugs....hey never enjoy drugs they aren't silly don't they

  • what sort of drug was their favorite? opium? acid?

  • they don't seem like the type to do drugs, do they?

  • probably weed

  • o and Deep Purple aren't rockers they are hard rockers

  • Beatles and Deep Purple saved the world from booredroom

  • David Coverdale was one of the best singers ever but not like Gillan,Gillan put Deep Purple in a better light in time of the Vietnam war and Beatles tooo Beatles saved theworld from booredroom

  • this song is awesome, deep purple rocks!!!

  • David Coverdale was in Deep Purple from 1973 o 1976.. Maybe she's confusing the two..

  • can ANYONE tell me if Robert Plant was with Deep Purple at ANY time? my mom has argued with me till i was about blue in the face about this..pls lemme know! thanx...love the song! thnx 4 posting

  • Nope, Robert Plant was with another band with John Bonham before Led Zep, but never Deep Purple.

  • Robert plant was never a part of deep purple. The band he was in before he created led zeppelin was "The Yardbirds"

  • What are you talking about?

Jimmy Page was in The Yardbirds

Robert Plant was a friend of John Bonham, and he recommended him to join Zeppelin

  • One awesome song

  • Hey jimmytheferret, just curious do you Play Telstar?

  • I don't understand you, if you like rock or rock 'n' roll then for you is Gotthard also a good band.

  • In my opinion they are. And just because you don't think so you schould not say FUCK YOU! You could say your view with respect!

  • Gotthard own this song!

  • Loved the way you handled that guy, one of the nicest ways to say f you to someone yet not say it.

  • Gotthard own this song.

  • They don't make music like they use to

    Thanks for posting

  • Oh sure they do,good music has always been made and will keep on being made till the end of time.

  • This is how I like my '60s music. Scratchy and authentic. Jon Lord on the Hammond is a gift from the gods.

  • very good

  • buena vola esa cancion

    sudamerican rockers present !

  • cool job!

  • Absolute musical brilliance, Damn does this groove ! Much thanks Jimmy...or is that Mr.Ferret ? Cheers !!

  • Not a trace of British accent.

  • Same with most British Rock Groups - It's a shame to be honest!

  • You probably feel the same way about UK rock singers as i do about U.S. rock singers (like the Green Day dude) who affect a British accent. It's so phony. But Brits do American so well that it isn't even noticeable to us Yanks.

  • So what?

  • not talking to you.

  • Who are you talking to then? Twat.

  • I was talking to a fellow named Bigdoc2k6from the UK. He was commenting on what a shame it is that British rock singers tend to sing with American accents.

Have a great day! Love your country, Ireland.

  • GREAT song !!! Deep Purple is a great band, pretty un appreciated, since alot of people only know them by Smike on the Water

  • Don't say that - almost everybody I know (not just my closest people) knows at least 4 songs (I know it's not much, but it shows some general knowledge and appreciation) by them, and usually forgets about Smoke on the Water...
